raspberry pi 2 as media player

Just trying to close my eyes and trying to visualize, a cloudy tea garden with slow internet but lots of flacs and a nice wooden home with sound system. Just heaven :) and you keep complaining :(

 Dada what are you saying. This raspberry has got me tied in a loop. Oh come on visit us anytime we would love to have you.
In fact very recently a FM had come down to a to his aunt's place, town named TINSUKIA about 60 Kms from where I stay and we had planned a meet but I feel so sorry I couldnt meet him as I was touring the gardens and our timings didnot match :o

I didnt have the heart to speak to him after that incident, I feel so embarrassed.

For me runeauduo sounded very clean but thin in the midrange

Where as moode audio had a proper natural sound comparing rune

Will give moode a try then. Btw, if you have the time, try Rune v 0.2 the older version, to me that sounded sweeter. Wanted to get a second opinion

Perfect I would forget and expect the internet is as slow as possible that I can spend more time listening to whatever is there :clapping:

Thanks for the Invitation :) Due thaklo. RPi and similar things do give glitches at the beginning, once set you are all good for a long time. Regarding internet, did you try BSNL Wi-Max service for remote areas?

Great. Yes I did and the BSNL people went away with their equipments and the customary "Chai Packets". Fluctuation signal they say even with a 40ft Tower.

Going to try out Rune 0.2 and Moode soon. Thanks for the pointers!

Lifewater, let us know how it goes.

Sure
will get another sd card and try rune 0.2

By the way moodeaudio has its own mood :)

Takes hell lot of trial and error
but then its smooth sailing

With rune it was pretty easy for me

for me ...

Moode>Rune>Volumio === In terms of sound quality
Volumio>Moode>Rune === Stability (specially latest version)
Rune>Moode>Volumio === Features

Over All on an Avg Moode suited me the best

Hi Managed to download and install RUNE. and my observations are :-
1.) Installation was very easy as I wrote the image file using WINDISKIMAGER to the SD card.
2.) Setup was manageable and would be for most of us except for the fact that it first needs to have a DHCP enabled router/hub connected by wired , yes WIRED LAN after that you may configure your Wifi Dongle.
3.) Sound quality :- EXCELLENT is one WORD and that is it.
4.) Control of playback :- I tried via my cellphone, daughter's tab and the Laptop. Very sleek and easy interface using RUNEuI.

Thank you guys for pointing me to the direction of RUNE. Now downloading MOODE to try it out.

Lifewater

You can also try powering the raspberry by a power bank.
i got good results by doing so.

It results in decrease of noise floor which makes the sound more resolving

If you are using powered usb hub just check if its back powering the raspberry or not
Mine was doing that so i am not even using a powered usb hub

It can be checked by connecting the powered usb hub to one of the usb ports of raspberry pi and then disconnect the power supply of the rpi
if it still stays on, that means the hub is back powering the rpi

This is also mentioned in the main website of raspberry pi

Hi Rikhav,

Thanks for the reply. OK will try a Battery bank. Yes I am using a DIY powered USB hub and it has its +5V wire snapped :ohyeah: so it cannot back power the Pi...

Guys i need a media player to play files on my HTIB setup. Can Raspberry pi be setup as a media player?? All i need to play are downloaded movie videos of dts sound quality.
Can raspberry handle 1080p files (with 6 channel sound) smoothly??
All files will be stored locally on my hard drive which i want to connect to raspberry.

If not raspbery, what else would be a good solution to have a Media player which can directly take my hard disk as input???

Came across another linux built called ARCHPHILE , to be used as audio player
Its suppose to be lightest out of all audio players.

http://googleweblight.com/?lite_url=http://archphile.org/&ei=6GXPjEim&lc=en-IN&s=1&m=630&ts=1445312639&sig=APONPFkaIYBAxk6hHU8mrSiMPMtWRtPq_w

Initially i was very excited with the upsampling in moode. But upon critical listening i feel that it changes the tone of the music and is just enchancing the highs.
so no more upsampling for me

Will try archphile in coming days and give my feedback
only issue with it is that most of the settings can be changed only by linux command line and i dont know nothing about linux

Rikhav, keep away from this audio upsampling mumbo jumbo. Even I am Linux illiterate so I dont thin I would be able to use this archpile. However if you use, do let me know the results.

Hi
will surely try it. Just waiting to find a spare sd card
i will need to manly set wifi adaptor. Rest i dont think we need to change much
in archphile MPD is also modular. If one feels that they need somw extra settings which are not included in the os there are patches which can be installed

Even in moode while playing a 16 bit 44.1 khz file the cpu load is max 3 to 4 percent

Which windows or mac based music pc can boast of that :indifferent14::indifferent14:

Use RuneAudio if you want something based on Arch Linux. Archphile has nothing new to offer as far as sound goes compared to RuneAudio. Both are based on Arch Linux ..... Archphile has other advantages like support for SACD .iso playback, but thats about it where the difference ends...

Then i will not bother testing archphile

Moode audio is working good for me

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
