Friends,

Help me out to choose Panasonic 65" ST50D or VT30, I see some reviews and its like ST is Merc C Class and VT is S Class, need reviews from owners and experts..

Cheers..

Not entirely correct. The ST50 is almost near equivalent to VT30. If you had said VT50 then I would have agreed. Otherwise the difference is more like E200 vs. E250. But that is slightly besides the point as both are not available in India.

50 series has better motion handling and got rid of the dreaded phosphor trails entirely.

ST50 is almost a rebadge of VT30 - some features.

I would pick the ST50 if the aesthetics and few other improvements are secondary and pic quality is primary.

Hi...

Actually am owner of vt20d, due to some technical snag its getting replaced and now got option for VT30 or ST50D...I am more towards VT series...

hence need to know the better option..

Cheers..

As I said, it will be difficult to get stock of either models. But if you compare both models' specs, you will realize that Panasonic made significant advances in the 50 series.

Hi,

Had a chat with Panasonic guys today and i will be getting P65ST50D in next few days, checked on 3D glasses these are bluetooth based which i guess will be better then ones i had in Vt20.

Wanted to know did you calibrated your device ? if so can you share the details, i read somewhere on calib disc but not gettint at post now.

Also still wondering how come vt30 is still higher in price then ST

Cheers....

I think the price is higher because the MRP is higher. In that price range, it is all about bargaining. Typically the market price should be around 30% less than the MRP. However when supply is a constraint, there is very little room for negotiations.

All the best!
Calibration comes in after 200 hours of usage.

The 65VT30 was usually quoted at 3.5 lakhs and then if some serious negotiation happened a deal closed at 3.1 to 3.25. The price was ridiculous in the first place, especially since the Samsung 2012 flagship plasma, the 64E8000 was available at 2L.

I would go with ST50...................VT30 no doubt is a top tv but is now quite dated. ST50 would come almost close to VT30 and you get the latest technology.

Hi,

I see you are THX certified pro, how would you comment on day to day viewing + movies on plasma with/without THX in home environment.

Above becoz mine vt20 was thx and now st50d is not THX

It is a common norm to put last year's quality of premium sets into this year's low end models. So it is wise to go with st50 which is eventually the best affordable plasma of 2012.

Hello All,

Need serious help here....i went ahead and selected VT30 instead of ST50,
TV got delivered today and installed as well, its not even an 2 hours of watching it and it has again developed vertical thin line towards left side...and this is sheer bad luck i say...

How is it possible for such to develop in span of so short time....

How can i check the USAGE HRS or others if u doubt this replacement was demo piece or defective...i did -V (press + hold) and from remote INFO thrice and OK i got the service menu...what further to be checked !!!

Thanks

Hi.

Pls do not attempt to go into service menu. It's not advised unless you know for sure what to do. Don't experiment.

How will checking hours of usage help? Just return the tv. Sorry to say, but you made a bad choice going in for VT30 over ST50. If you still have a chance go for ST50. What made you swing towards VT30? What price did you get the VT20?

If I were in your situation, I'll ask for refund and blindly purchase the 64F8500.

Hi Shaiju,

I had purchased VT20 in 2011 and offlate got the vertical thin line and thats when i got the option for replacement with VT30 or ST50D,

Based on reviews and forums i was inclined towards VT30 though apple to apple ST50 is at PAR but frankly speaking couldnt get ST50 details review anywhere.

refund is out of question but YES still have option for ST50, any thread or link for details review of ST50 ??

today got my VT30 delivered and is excellent over VT20 but really surprised of vertical line again may be because of packed box in warehouse along with moisture or so.....

Thanks..

Others that are interesting but don't present testing methods or data.

It is the same reviewer John Archer. Can't say much about him but the review is anyway positive.

Let the set break in. You'll get great pictures.

Hope you are happy with the ST50 over VT20 and VT30.
