Request for Emotiva product owners

To those who imported directly from Emotiva through their Fedex services, is it possible to know whether the equipment were cleared by Fedex at Indian Customs and delivered to you wherein you reimbursed them the actual duties paid? Or, did you have to do the Customs clearance yourself after Fedex intimating you that the goods had arrived?
I am considering to buy a XPA-5 and would like to know the formalities.

When I got my amp FedEx gave me a call telling me the duty payable and needed conformation that the duty is to be paid by them on my behalf. After I confirmed they paid the duty on my behalf and collected the same in cash on delivery of the amp. Everything went very smoothly with no problems whatsoever.
 
I have imported XPA-5 and UMC-1 directly from Emotiva. The duty was paid by FedEx and I had to pay the same on delivery of goods. However they did call and confirmed the duty amount before paying.

Thanks. Mind saying how much duty had to be paid for the XPA-5?
My alternative is to buy a Anthem MCA-50 which I know costs double.

one question to emotiva owners....
what about the volume control...i did not find any information about it in emotiva manuals...

will the volume control be done by main avr remote only...??

I ordered emotiva XPA-5 and it was delivered to my doorstep thru FEDEX.
FEDEX takes care of clearance from customs and everything else thereof. They will inform you about the amount you need to pay to pay.

I got it done with advise from fellow HiFiVisionite Mr Hassan Khani.

Need more info I have PMED YOU MY NUMBER !

If you are going to use your avr as the preamp/processor make sure your avr has pre outs. The higher end avrs have pre outs. The emotiva power amps have no volume control. You have to control the volume from the avr / pre

actually not now...cooking an idea to get an emotiva and connect like this....

non preout avr speker terminal.....speaker level to line level converter....emotiva rca in.....emotiva speker terminal to speakers....

Are there any other commercial power amp having volume control? Just being curious. It will be interesting to read about it.

Thanks bro. I somehow feel that ishopinternational may work out to be cheaper because they calculate dollar rate at 55 which is not the case with Indian Banks. They apply some conversion charges on the total transaction amount. And also we could get a better shipping charge from ishop. But may be FedEx is safer. And you said it is insured as well.

You could also add an ADC followed by a good DAC just before emotiva rca in. :D man... that's crazy cooking. :ohyeah:

I may have used the wrong word, what i meant was input level. Power amps like the nad thx2700 have nobs to set the input level for both channels and indirectly one can control the volume from the power amp.

hehe what can i do??...i am thinking to build a poor man's HT..
yes you are correct..ADC-DAC does not make sense...
just..
like speaker level--line level..
right?
i have read some stuffs people did this way and getting better reasults than avr alone...off course worse results than a proper pre out avr+power amp combo...
so my idea is to change speakers....then power amp buy...and changing the avr if feel any need..
what else a poor man can do......

i also thought of....diy tapping the pre amp outs by opening avr...and bypassing avr main amp...:rolleyes:

Hello,

Just to share my exp while importing emotivs products. I had imported UMC1 & UPA7 combo in April 2011. Instead of Emotive delivering it directly through FedEx I had used borderlinx services and the same was delivered by DHL (including customes clearence)

It had worked out cheaper (do not remember how much exactly) and products were delivered as promised and without any issues.

One of my friend had improted MUC1 & XPA5 combo using FedEx and the shipment was delivered as per dates mentioned. Fedex cleared customs, gave him a call before paying the charges. He paid to them at the time of delivery.

Both ways, it worked very smoothly and both are happy owners of the equipments till date. UMC is updated with recent FW and works like a charm. Amp does not have a volume control of its own but its controlled using UMC volume control.

Another plan cooking (slow burner) to import airmotives 5/6 along with Emotiva DAC in next 8 months or so and an XMC1 later when it is realeased. That time may try direct delivery using Fed-Ex.
