Review of Sharp AH-XP18MV 1.5Ton Eco-Inverter Air Conditioner

Read your initial posts and was searching high and dry in Bangalore for the 1.1 ton PET & PHT at 32K & 34K resp. before realizing that you sourced the PET at 36K.

Does this include any freebies such as voltage stabilizer or installation?

Copper pipe..

Installation 1200 bucks. .

32-34 is almost impossible price... anything below 36 just for ac you are lucky. ...

Installation kit is included with Sharp and is apparently of high quality.

I had called up Sharp Bangalore and they insisted I buy a stabilizer. The general consensus is that the V-Guard VG-400 works well. I saw these online, however there are many complaints with those such as broken seals and errant functioning, so would urge you to be cautious if buying online. I have been using the same stabilizer with my other AC for many years and it seems to work fine.

I bought the 1.1PHT yesterday and am eagerly awaiting it, but it rained last night and it is cool and pleasant. So I am wondering if the urgency I showed was required :)

Thanks for the pics!

i was in Bangalore last week for for a night stay and drive back to HYD i must say i envy Bangalore weather. i was somewhere near hebbal before hitting kormangla in morning and i had to switch off the AC. take a blanket and sleep in fan.. it was COLD....

i also enquired for PHT for the air ionizer that and read about the whole technology. my bedroom is mostly closed. no odour besides no smoking or drinking stritly in bedroom. hence odor free since last cpl of years thats why i saved cpl of thousand bucks and opted for PET. as this is my first SHARP. wanted to see the cooling.

next year i will pick another one for the Audio room and if this deal works out well next year i'd pick one with the best features.

congrats on your buy. my installation will be done on saturday. work constraints hence no time for installation.

copper pipe is included but installation is 1200 bucks. i did not buy stabilizer. will buy in sometime but haven't seen a single fluctuation in past few years also these are supposed to run without stabilizers.:D

Can you please share the cost? Thanks!

41.5K for AH-XP13PHT including stabilizer and installation.
38K for AH-X13PET including stabilizer and installation.

Stabilizer is V-Guard VG-400 and costs around Rs. 1,800 after discount (MRP seems to be Rs. 2,500).

Installation is usually Rs. 1,500. You can also call Sharp and get it done through them for the same price though you may have to wait a few days.

So if the dealer is not giving installation or stabilizer, you need to deduct 3.3K from the prices above.

The only thing I have to pay extra for is the stand for Rs. 800 as it is required additionally in my case.

The prices are roughly in the ball-park of what theironhorse got his for.

Another thing is I decided to pay 3.5K extra for the PHT model because the dealer said that the plasmacluster ion is effective in removing smells and keeping the room fresh. When I checked online, Sharp seems to be selling standalone air-purifiers with this technology in India for 13.5K. Reviews in Japan also seemed to be indicate that these standalone purifiers are used extensively in offices.

Saw your post only after I responded to MJ23Bulls.

What can I say? We Bangaloreans are a pampered lot and start melting in the summer due to the cool weather other times of the year. Sad, but true.

Glad to know that you came to my locality, Koramangala!

Usually I call these gimmicks but the dealer whom I have known for some time recommended it highly. Will let you know if it is useful.

This is my first Sharp too. I have a 5-year old LG elsewhere which is making all sorts of noises now.

congrats on your buy. my installation will be done on saturday. work constraints hence no time for installation.

Looks like mine will be first :). I am getting mine done tomorrow morning. That is, if the AC arrives today as promised.

mine too LG 1.5 T in hall serving well for 3 years now. this one will be up soon for comparo :)

installation 1200 quoted by sharp. these guys have called me like 3 times by now to come and install and i have been delaying it.

just AC is 36K..which includes copper pipe.. no stabilizer .. no installation..

Congratulations for the purchase ironhorse and sorry not to be able to provide a timely reply. :)

I am getting busy day-by-day unable to browse the forum on a timely basis.

np mate... i quoted your post on BCM as well.. dint knew you were on TE and BCM as well... you have given us ample info to decide and buy. thanks again for all the research work you did last year and the tedious work to jot it down here.:yahoo::clapping:

@nowwhat? and @theironhorse,
Congrats!

I also envy you guys that you don't have to think of stabilizers. We in TN, aren't that fortunate! :(

while i have seen fluctuation in HYD as well and i dare to say.. real horrible ones which blew off 3 PC UPS in 1 year time but then it was one particular area of the city.. besides that have never encountered any such issue :)

for you its safer to go for a stabilizer.

Actually I live in 4th Block extension :)

Price you got is reasonable. I haggled really hard to try and bring the PET to 32K based on your initial post and also because SnapDeal was selling the same for Rs. 32,125.

In the end, I chose to pay extra and buy locally as I had a recent bad experience with ShopClues who shipped me a used microwave oven and I had to send a notice for Consumer Court to get my money back. The whole process of getting via ground shipping, send it back via ground shipping & refund took 3 months!

@nowwhat? and @theironhorse,
Congrats!

Actually I am getting a stabilizer.

But honestly, I don't think it is required based on my experience. Recently, we changed most of our home appliances and I bought a Panasonic Inverter refrigerator. Even though I didn't buy from him, the local Panasonic dealer said that I needed to buy a stabilizer. I therefore called up the Panasonic Helpline to get to the root of the matter and the service engineer told me how the refrigerator converts AC to DC first and the power conditioning circuitry handles a wide range of voltage and spikes and therefore there is no need to buy a stabilizer. When I repeatedly kept asking him questions, he finally told me that if it helps me to sleep better then I should buy a stabilizer. Otherwise there is no need for it.

Later, I went to the local electronic shop and the owner of the shop said that he was up to his ear in stabilizers as everyone who has bought an inverter refrigerator is selling it. In fact the price for the one from V-Guard was Rs. 300.

So, there you have it. Why did I buy one now? It is only because Sharp Bangalore, unlike Panasonic, insisted that I buy one.

MJ23Bulls: What my dealer told me about the Sharp brochure is to rely on the tonnage on the left hand side to buy slightly bigger so that the AC is not overworked. Now on looking at the brochure once again, I see that Sharp has accommodated for the extra heat on higher floors.

For the lower floor, you should definitely consider a 1.5T and the upper floor should perhaps be a 2T unless you paint the roof above with sun-reflecting paint in case it is not white-tiled. However, you could get by with a 1.5T on top especially if you plan to use it only at night.

Thanks for a very informative thread, rishiguru!

Looks like some of us hijacked it recently.

Sometimes I feel GUILTY as being the one to bring this recent Sharp REVOLUTION in air conditioner segment. Now-a-days I find people talking about Sharp Inverter ACs only and nothing else. And it all started after my personal review of AH-XP18MV's I own. Before that nobody new about Sharp Inverter ACs. I believe forum members should widen their view and look also to other brands as well. Some are equally as good as Sharp.

Thanks for re-validating.

No need to feel guilt. By the way, I read your thread AFTER I had already decided on Sharp, however it gave me reassurance that I was on the right path.

It's really very nice of you to compile such a comprehensive research and share it among us. :clapping:
I don't know whether SHARP owes you anything or not; but, noobs like myself (who doesn't have any clue on how things work; or have some ideas - but all half-baked ones :ohyeah:)
Your comparisons on various models have shed a lot of insight to me, at the least Thanks!

Take a bow, rishiguru! :salute:

Got my AC installed today.

I paid Rs. 750 extra for the stand and nothing more.

The first thing that struck me was that compared to my LG 1.5 ton 3-star AC, this one is very, very quiet. I can barely hear any sound.

I also tried a few features.

Firstly, I tried the Plasmacluster ion and that seems to work well as my room was odour-free in some 30-odd minutes. Will try it a few more times to decide as my nose isn't as good as it used to be.

Then I tried the 80% ECO mode which doesn't seem to work that well as I started feeling slightly warmer. But coupled with a ceiling fan in full speed, it might just work.

A slight disappointment is the remote which is a rectangular block that looks vintage even compared to my 5-year LG AC remote. The remote does not have a lighted screen or keypad. I also miss the button on my LG remote that tells me what the current room temperature is.

I tried the Superjet mode and it works well. It cooled down the room pretty quickly.

The person who did the install said that I have 3 free services from Sharp in the first year and that my dealer would fix those appointments for me.

All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase.

What is the best place to install the indoor unit in a bed room?

a)Above the head board
b)On the side wall
c)On the wall near the feet

I have mine installed on the side wall - din't want cold air blowing directly on to my face. But I still feel uncomfortable - when A/C cuts in and the cold air hits you. Tried adjusting the louvers in a fixed position - din't help.
Now I am thinking of shifting the Indoor unit mounting to the wall near the feet.
Will it help or am I different:lol:

My LG AC is installed over the headboard and it is uncomfortable. Firstly given that its a 5-year old AC and because it makes a racket at night, I can hear it all at night. Over the past 5 years, I considered many times moving my bed so that my feet points at the AC. In fact, I have been sleeping in the opposite position with my feet facing the AC to catch the breeze and also to not hear the AC.

My new Sharp Inverter AC is installed on the sidewall and I think this is the perfect position.

I finally realized today what the problem is. And this may be of help to you as well. The fact is that the old non-Inverter ACs only kick in when the temperature is above a certain limit. So these ACs cycle through highs and lows and I feel myself throwing the blanket away and groping for the blanket all through the night.

Not so with my new Inverter AC. It is able to step-down and pump cold air at slight differences in temperature. I feel very comfortable now though its been less than a day.

I am seriously considering replacing my 1.5T LG AC.
