Review of Sharp AH-XP18MV 1.5Ton Eco-Inverter Air Conditioner

I finally realized today what the problem is. And this may be of help to you as well. The fact is that the old non-Inverter ACs only kick in when the temperature is above a certain limit. So these ACs cycle through highs and lows and I feel myself throwing the blanket away and groping for the blanket all through the night.

Thanks. My exact same problem.

After a marathon 4 hour install I am loving it.. super quiet.. running 25-26 with 60% eco mode with fan on full blast...

Amazing experience. . No more throwing and again collecting blanket. And repeat..

What is the best place to install the indoor unit in a bed room?

a)Above the head board
b)On the side wall
c)On the wall near the feet

I have mine installed on the side wall - din't want cold air blowing directly on to my face. But I still feel uncomfortable - when A/C cuts in and the cold air hits you. Tried adjusting the louvers in a fixed position - din't help.
Now I am thinking of shifting the Indoor unit mounting to the wall near the feet.
Will it help or am I different:lol:

indoor unit should not be directly over the head else you'd get up with a choked nose and headache however near the feet is not a good option..

put it on either side if that's no possible.. then this particular model has horizontal flip of the air panel which will throw air to the ceiling..ideally to the fan and let the fan do the job of distribution. which will not be uncomfortable.

their so called " coanda" however i realized that they utilized the " decade old coanda principle" well and it does the job.

and yes the remote left me with much more to be desired. my 3 y old LG ac has night glow buttons for on/off and thermostat control at least.

no 4 way swing .. not deal killer but then fancy of having it :D

does not show room temperature like lg remote : have moved my desk clock with temp sensor to bedroom.

fan speed is lil abrupt : 1-2-3 is low and then 4 is like paddling the gas on a Ferrari..

what i liked :

jet cool : similar to jet cool in LG
fan speed at full blast : far more powerful than my 1.5 T lg split
sound : this thing is inaudible. i need another one for audio room now.

at night i actually opened the window few times to check if the outer unit was running. couldn't hear s*** :D ..

set at 26 with AC fan on auto and my room fan on 3 i slept happily without a blanket. just a thin bedsheet : found the sweet spot :):)

4 hours? Mine took 2 1/2 hours :)

Congrats, theironhorse!

I told you, the remote is a brick :)

the remote is indeed a brick.. compared to my other lg remote which looks like a Korean cutie pie this definitely looks like a old fart from japan..

4 hours or maybe more : 2:30 to 7 . I assume
the problem was copper pipe was 3 meters and to run it through the wall then over the concrete shade and getting down 2-3 feet below my windows level was not working out. i was hell bent over getting the outer unit just outside my window where the top of the outer unit in clearance with my window panel by max 1 inch when opened.

i did the same with LG as well. this makes sure i can see most of the area of the outer unit and access easy cleaning. once a while i take my local 18000rpm blower and blow the hell out of the dust of outer units and then clean fins with a mug of water.:ohyeah:

back to the issue : to make all the adjustments in 3 meters itself we had to drill a hole 3-4 inch width from the concrete shade and then bending the pipe at multiple points while hanging in air..

but it did work out. though i also gave a helping hand for a cpl of hours and had to resort in shower for next 30 minutes :)

Can someone please tell me the difference between these Sharp inverter models
AH-X13PET 37500 Rs
AH-X13PMT 37000 Rs
AH-X13PHT 39000 Rs

What the difference between these models. Above prices are given by the dealer to me for 1 ton.

I visited the website but its confusing & dealer is too dont have much knowledge.

(Also if anyone have better options then Sharp at this price range can suggest me the same. My budget is maximum 38k)

Thanks in advance.

AH-X13PET (1.1T)
AH-XP13PMT (1.1 T)
AH-XP13PHT (1.1T)

I guess i made smelling mistake in previous post.

Does keeping AC fan to high speed ..consume more power or negligible? compared to slow speed

Now the fact is that AC manufacturers do not seem to give power consumption figures for the indoor and outdoor units of a split AC separately, so that complicates things.

However to get to your question which also has been nagging me for a few years, I took a different tack. Most AC manufacturers also manufacture multi-split units where one outdoor unit is connected to many indoor units and in that case, some of them do list the power consumption figures for only the indoor unit.

Take a look at this 1-ton indoor unit for a multi-split from Samsung Singapore -> Multi Inverter Aircon MH035FAEA - OVERVIEW | SAMSUNG

This 1-ton indoor unit only consumes 35 watts, therefore it consumes only as much power as a ceiling-fan in full blast. (The equivalent 1.5-ton consumes 50 watts.)

Unless it is some kind of intelligent AC or you are using it in turbojet/superjet mode, the indoor unit fan usually has nothing to do with the power consumed by the outdoor unit.

Therefore what it means is that a Sharp 1.1T which consumes around 1,010 watts may be split up into 975 watts for the outdoor unit and 35 watts for the indoor unit. On an unusually hot day, the outdoor unit may be hemming and hawing on full power of 975 watts, but if you limit the indoor unit at a low fan setting, it may use up only say 20 watts instead of 35. The 15 watts saving will not amount to much.

A better option is to limit the outdoor unit to 80% or 60% ECO mode.

When I got the LG AC many years ago, I tried stunts like limiting the indoor unit fan before I realized that it didn't seem to amount to much. These days I just leave the indoor unit at whatever is the automatic setting.

Breaking RCC is a pain, I understand now why it took so long. How do you get by the window grill?

I slept like a baby last night and woke up early morning very refreshed :)

Today it rained in Bangalore and sure enough the power went out. Thankfully it became cool too.

Tonight I am planning to try out the "Gentle Cool Air" option to direct air to the ceiling fan and down from there.

I have the horizontal swing, but I haven't felt much of it since I also use the ceiling fan.

I love this AC so far and I am seriously planning to replace my 1.5T depending on the discount I get once the AC season is over.

The difference between PET and PHT has been given few pages back on this very thread. Silver color, Plasmacluster ion and a few other doodads. The Sharp brochure available for download on sharpproducts.in lists the differences. See it in book view in your PDF reader.

PMT is not available in Bangalore, otherwise its specs seem identical to PHT.

Based on the prices, I would jump for the PMT.

+1 to Nowwhat.

In fact keeping the fan at full blast might actually reduce your electricity bill as the heat transfer between the cooling coil of the indoor unit and room will be better thereby improving the overall efficiency of the refrigeration cycle. If you notice the 5 star units have bigger outdoor units ( Bigger coils) to achieve better heat transfer rates. The alternative to bigger coil size is higher air flow but the downside is the noise.

ok thanks.
I am getting samsung 1 tonn inverter AC AR12HV5NBWK 1.0 TR at 37,000 which has 10 years compressor warranty but some features as in Sharp PMT/PHT are missing.
What might be better choice? Sharp or Samsung ?

Samsung Inverter AC, Buy Inverter Air Conditioner, Price, Spec - SAMSUNG India - OVERVIEW

SaMSUNG AC AR12HV5NBWK 1.0 TR is available at 37,000 Rs.
Will it be better than Sharp 1 ton inverter PMT which is also at 37000 ???

Strongly suggest you stay away from Samsung or LG.

I have had many Samsung products that broke down before time. My Samsung refrigerator was under warranty, yet they couldn't fix it. The Samsung engineer himself asked me to buy a Japanese refrigerator in desperation.

Panasonic is good, but costs 5-15K more than Sharp. Hitachi and Daikin are also good, but both cost more and have poor service. Daikin in particular is considered the best worldwide. Others sold in India are Mitsubishi. Toshiba, O-General, Carrier, but I have no idea how they are; these do not seem to sell in large quantities and have a threadbare presence.

Would urge you to read this entire thread.

Hmmm....
Snapdeal quote for
Sharp 1.5 Ton Inverter AH-XP18PHT Split Air Conditioner Silver
(not Rs 54990; but) Rs 42618

But one of the dealers in Chennai is quoting 55k with installation & stabilizer. Dealer says that online sale is without any tax; so no warranty. Is it so?

P.S: However, for O General 1.5 Ton Inverter ASGA18JCC Split Air Conditioner
(not Rs 57240) Rs 54883
But the dealer quote is 54290. Dealer's quote is reasonably below the snapdeal's quote.

Sharp is 1.1 Ton, Samsung is 1 Ton.

PMT has Plasmacluster which according to my dealer works well.

Sharp is more efficient with EER of 4.01 compared to Samsung's 3.52.

PMT has ECO mode to limit power consumption to 80% or 60%.

Samsung has better warranty.

No horizontal airflow in the Samsung model you mentioned.

Snapdeal, ShopClues, etc. are all marketplaces where anyone can post their ads online.

What your Chennai dealer is saying is incorrect, these guys also have to pay taxes. Warranty depends on whether the bill you receive is from an authorized dealer. Some of these merchants will not issue you a bill or it may be from someone who is unauthorized, either way you do not get warranty.

Why these websites offer huge discounts is because unbeknownst to us many of them are authorized dealers in small towns such as Kanpur and they see this as a good way to pump up their sales. They are therefore undercutting those who run actual shops with high rent and running expenses in cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad or Chennai. They are not authorized to sell online, hence they sell with pseudonyms such as E-Bazzar (sic) and so on.

I bought a Panasonic Microwave oven for 14K odd from ShopClues and the merchant in Kanpur shipped me an old ex-demo one in a beaten box full of dust inside all the way down to the oven cavity. ShopClues promises "Brand New, Genuine, Full Warranty, Replacement if you are not satisfied, Buyer Protection", but they did not want to take the oven back. It took me 3 months to sort this out and I only got my money back after some legal wrangling. I finally bought the same microwave oven locally some 3 months later for 16.5K.

Like you, I was tempted to buy the 1T PET model from SnapDeal as it is extremely low at 31K. However given my experience, I decided to stay away and buy locally.

If at all you decide to buy from SnapDeal, select Cash-on-Delivery and make sure you check the condition of the package, the date on the package, corroborate the invoice is from an authorized retailer and only then pay the money. Also accommodate 7-10 days for ground shipping depending on where the merchant is.

One thing I forgot to add, the 1.1T and 1.5T PHT shown on Snapdeal does not look like the one I own. My date of manufacture is January 2014.

Please check the pictures with theironhorse's pictures. Notice the bulge on both sides. PHT looks identical to theironhorse's except for the silver color.

Perhaps the one on Snapdeal is an older model? Or is the picture an inadvertent mistake?

Ordered 3 inverter AC's of Sharp for my Brother (2 x XP13PHT) and Self (1 x XP18PT) last week at 'Girias' in Chennai. 1 of the 2 AC's is delivered at my Brother's place and installed today. My 1.5T AC's is also delivered 2 days back; However, it is planned for installation in the coming week only.

Had gone through the review of 'rishiguru' long back and was really impressed with Sharp inveter AC's, and thus helped us to go with Sharp.

I was contemplating to purchase it online (from snapdeal) as the price (for 1.5T) was looking more competitive, varying between 42.2K to ~49K, for the 1.5T model. Just before ordering, called up Sharp's customer care about the 'installation' part. The Sharp's executive informed that there will be no warranty and installation will not be done by Sharp, although snapdeal website says it is with warranty and installation. To get that in writing shot an email to Sharp's customer care and below was the reply received.

"Dear All,

Thank you for mailing SHARP India.

We would like to inform you that we have dealer network chain through which we sold and provide service to customer.

We dont entertain with online purchase.

Thank you for the oppurtunity to serve you!"

A review of Sharp AC in snapdeal also confirms the above.

Therefore to have peace of mind, decided to purchase it from offline shops, and got XP13PHT @ Rs.37,500 each and XP18PHT @ Rs.48,000, including stablizer and installation. However, the clamps for the outdoor unit if required, will be charged additionally.

A minor drawback I noted in this model is, that it does not seems to have the power consumption display, like XP18MV. The remote also looks dated!

Trust this helps atleast some of you.
