Hii
M doing some renovation in my living room, My tata sky is located in one of the corner of the room and due to interior changes, our TV unit is going to be shifted to the other wall.
Well I dont have that much length of the TATA Sky cable, (-RG 6 black colour Coaxial cable).
1. Can I add a portion of about 15 feet RG6 Coaxial cable by the help of RC6 connectors and extend the cable ... Is it in anyway going to affect the picture quality .. ( currently using Tatasky SD, planning to shift to HD soon after renovation) I guess for Tata sky HD same cable is only used.

Presently my tata sky antenna is on the terrace and there are 4 floors above . ( i am in the 1st floor)... alternately if adding the cable affects the quality,
2.CAN I bring down the antenna to 3rd floor, so that gives me an extra 20 feet of cable.. 3rd floor has some space outside the balcony where I can install the antenna

Why don't you ask the Tata Sky helpline to send over their installation person to your place to change the location of the box? In fact, you could switch over to Tata Sky HD and ask them for installing a new cable. Tata Sky HD+ has 2 cables running from the antenna (not sure if they use the signal splitter anymore). Not sure about Tata Sky HD.

The local electrician will NOT be able to do the connection between the two wires as professionally as the Tata sky team. I think they'll charge you for the same under 'relocation charges'. It's free for the annual pack subscribers though.

15-20 foot will not make a big difference in quality. The loss across 20 foot is minimal. Just make sure that the RG-6 cable you buy is of good quality (say, Finolex or the best shielded one you get in your local market). Ignore the jelly filled one as usage will be indoor. While fitting the F-type connector, make sure the shielding of the cable is touching the body of the connector securely and the connector is tightly secured.

Oh.. I didnt know about the free schme for annual subscribers.. Thanks ..

TATA sky technicians came today and added an extra length of wire.. they said no need of joinin a new wire all the way to the dish. It will work fine. They added the connectors and plugs very professionally with some tools for cutting, crimping etc.. Charged 100 Rs. (Kharcha paani !! ;) )

Little off topic, but did not want to open new thread.
Does tata sky charge(250/-) for every service visit?

Mine is a new installation and I am getting no signal problem even after rain stops, atleast for half a day it does not work and then it starts working on its own without me doing any changes? could it be dish alignment or LNB issue? Anybody facing similar issue?

One more query - can anybody provide links on where I can get SPDIF audio cable for tata sky HD in online websites?

Any inputs on above queries?
Is SPDIF cable same as RCA cable?

If you are on regular monthly subscription, then TS will charge you Rs. 250 per visit + material cost if any. If you an annual megapack subscriber, the visit fee is waived off. It is quite likely that your dish is misaligned or there may be some issue with the STB itself. I don't face this issue - during heavy rain, the service is interrupted - HD channels are more quickly affected than SD channels.

S/PDIF is an interface - it could be coaxial or optical. So depending upon what you want, it could mean coaxial digital cable (RCA terminals) or TOSLINK optical cable.

Thanks for the response. I am on Annual Grand sports pack, not sure if the charges are waived off in this case also.

Also last week once the STB rebooted on its own while watching channels, not sure if the no signal and this are related.

I am looking for digital audio for TS HD itself and I guess its coax and hence RCA should be fine.

Best to contract cc. STB may have rebooted because of firmware update - but i am not sure that there was any update on the recent time.
