Right now I am listening to ...

Eric Johnson's "Ah Via Musicom" ought to be mandatory listening for all guitar fans. And he can actually sing too (unlike Messrs Vai and Satriani).

Last week I bought a Billy Idol Greatest Hits for Stevie Stevens' guitaring. I just love his "pistonic chops" when playing rhythm guitar. I can't think of anyone I like better for rhythm guitar. Another guy who played great rhythm was the Motley Crue guy (Girls Girls Girls).

IMO, the 80s was the best time for guitar heroes. Some favourites:

1) the guitar duo that played in Judas Priest used to play some truly awesome "duels". And I don't even remember their names anymore:sad:
2) Dave "The Snake" Sabo of Skid Row played some of the most beautiful harmonies on guitar. It helped that their vocalist Sebastian Bach was one hell of a vocalist (one of the best of the era?).
3) CC Deville of Poison played even better harmonies. Too bad he got kicked out of the band. But they had a very able replacement in Ritchie Kotzen,. Listen to his solo on "Stand" to know what I mean.
4) And who can forget Brian May of Queen!
5) Ozzy Osbourne had one heck of a guitarist in Jake E Lee (The Ultimate Sin). But I don't know what to make of Zakk Wylde, his replacement.
6) I love Aerosmith's guitarist Joe Perry. He can really string together a guitar melody.
7) An inspired Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi also played very good guitar. But those moments were few and far in between. I personally feel he peaked in Slippery When Wet, and anything after that was mostly insipid.
8) Yngwie J Malmsteen - technical monkey, purveyor of fine neo-classical guitaring
9) Vinnie Moore - another fine neo-classical guitarist, specialist in the arpeggio.
10) Prince, or whatever he was called at that point of time. Genius. 'Nuff said.
11) Slash - master of the chromatic scale. Use Your Illusion I and II was a great achievement for the band and excellent showcase of his depth. He was unfairly compared to Satriani.
12) Steve Morse - technical wizardry, jazz influence, sublime music.
13) And who can forget Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme? More than his guitar works I like him for his orchestral arrangements and his contralto voice.
14) Jason Bieler of Saigon Kick was another favourite.

I am sure there are more......

That's one long, detailed list, bro. Will take me a while to assimilate all this... :)

Agree, Eric Johnson CAN sing :D Wonderful axeman too!

The Billy Idol Greatest Hits was & is one of my favs as it covers all the golden hits of Billy Idol :yahoo: Steveie Stevens is a highly under rated & unsung axeman.

Your talking about Mick Mars of Motley Crue doing lead & rhythm duties, with Nikki Sixx on bass

1) KK Downing & Glen Tipton!!! Metal Gods of Guitar :clapping: Insane duo who spawned a whole bunch of twin axe guitar based metal bands!

2) Wholeheartedly agree! Skidrow was a TIGHT band! Slave to the grind is my all time favorite song of theirs :licklips: Wasted time showcases the beautiful guitar harmonies with Sebastian Bach's angst laden screamy vocals.

3) Not much of a glam rock laced poison fan, but yeah credit due to CC

4) Heavily under stated master axeman Brian May. The guy never ages!

5) Ozzy's soulmate & best solo act guitarist was Rhandy Rhoads! What a tragic loss to all of us that he died so young  Listen to his tracks like crazy train, mr. crowley & the jewel called dee, with him just mucking around in the studio. Zakk Wylde gets too monotonous with the stretching after a while :indifferent14:

6) Yes, Joe Perry & Brad Whitford supporting him on rhythm.

7) Never was a Bon jovi/Richie Sambora fan. Keep the faith was the only album I liked of theirs :p

8) Yngwie Malmsteen correctly described by you. Technically insane & can play western classical really too perfect!

9) Not much into Vinnie moore as not much into UFO! Have to start listening to their discography soon.

10) My name is prince, TAFKAP & what not heheheh! Brilliant but moody :p

11) Slash IMHO like Axl Rose just died after they broke up! Sad as their combo was magical.

12) , 13) & 14) Well, not much into their music so nothing much to say except need to hear them more :p

Yes, plenty more axemen we haven't even discussed here..... just plain too many of them :)

That's a super band not many have heard of. Wonderful songs... A Horse With No Name, Tin Man, Sandman, Don't Cross The River, Muskrat Love, etc.

I used to listen to them a lot on tape... somehow the CDs I got were dull and so I don't play them much.

Please give us your personal feedback and opinion of this album. That'll really be helpful....

definitely worth the listen. being his greatest hits most of, if not all the songs are good. its more of a mix of pop and 70's style american folk rock. easy listening with catchy tunes
