Right now I am listening to ...

WHOA!!! That's going way back in the past! Does anyone listen to them any more?

It's like I posted a few days ago, I'd already dropped out of the School of Hard Rock! :ohyeah:

Reminds me. In the old days when REO was spelt R.E.O. I always read RED SPEEDWAGON. That was going back even further to my primary and pre-primary school days when the little red wagon was a part of our story books..... I guess the thought suggestion sub-consciously remained in my mind!! :ohyeah:

well the influence of music starts as a kid with what the older people in your family listen to. every now and then i take out some old school rock and have a listen. another favourite of mine is chicago

Thanks Musiklava79 for the Time in a bottle link. Listened to it & liked it a lot. Another friend of mine had posted me about Jim Croce recently & your post today made me listen to Jim Croce for 1st time tonight :)

Listening to Photographs & Memories: His Greatest Hits by Jim Croce at the moment

Good choice! You'll find the Lover's Cross number suggested by jls001 in this album. Enjoy listening! :)

Please also YouTube Time in a Bottle by Babyface. This singer-guitarist plays serious acoustic guitar in the best latin tradition.

I don't have Jim Croce on CD but I do have a couple of his LPs.

Other great tracks: I'll have to Say I Love You In a Song, and Lover's Cross.

I didn't know Babyface also did the Time in a Bottle number! Must look it up! Thanks for the information.

Better keep those two LPs safely. They're very valuable property now!
! :)

Add Jeff Buckley to those who died young. His Grace album is a must-listen. His rendtion of Lilac Wine is even spookier than Barb Jungr's rendition. And his rendition of Hallelujah is probably one of the very best ever.

Only one studio album released....! What a pity! Will also look up the suggested tracks, thanks.

Having lugged home tons of CDs from the Landmark sale, I'm spinning the first CD - Tom Petty's Wildflowers. Excellent sonics. Of course it features the excellent track You Don't Know How It Feels. This guy sounds uncannily like Mellencamp.

Good for you. Looking forward to hearing all the details about those albums from you very soon.

And Moody Blues, add Three Dog Night (wonder if any listens to them nowadays!), add Blood, Sweat & Tears and last but not the least BREAD!

I didn't add a few bands and individuals purposely because they were posted or discussed in these boards earlier....

Babyface is a multi talented chap. Have heard some of his work earlier as well.
Sadly, only time in a bottle really connected with me as far as Jim Croce is concerned.

Tom Petty is a rather accomplished musician as well.
Some of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers tracks are my favorites like:

"Better By You, Better Than Me" is a 1969 song by the English rock band Spooky Tooth. The song was covered in 1978 by heavy metal Judas Priest.

In 1990, Judas Priest's version of the song was the subject of a much-publicized "subliminal message trial". The band were the subject of a civil lawsuit alleging their recording was responsible for the suicide attempts of two young men in Reno, Nevada in the mid-1980s. The case was eventually dismissed.

Lyrics:
You could find a way to ease my passion
You listen to the blood flow in my veins
You hear the teaching of the wind
Tell her why I'm alive within
I can't find the words
My mind is dead
It's better by you better than me

Guess you'll have to tell her how I tried
To speak up thoughts I've held so inside
Tell her now I got to go
Out in the streets and down the shore
Tell her the world's not much living for
It's better by you better than me

Everybody
Everybody knows
Everybody
Everybody knows
Better by you better than me

You can tell what I want it to be
You can say what I only can see
It's better by you better than me

Guess I'll have to change my way of living
Don't wanna really know the way I feel
Guess I'll learn to fight and kill
Tell her not to wait until
They'll find my blood upon her windowsill
It's better by you better than me

Everybody
Everybody knows
Everybody
Everybody knows
Better by you better than me

You can say what I only can see
You can tell what I want it to be

It's better by you better than me

Better by you better than me

You can tell what I want it to be
You can say way all they can see

Better by you better than me

Thanks for the many links! Will listen to them. I'm a long-term Tom Petty fan.

Landmark CD sale will be on only at the Andheri store, as per an insider. They're gathering the stock from all Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune stores and liquidating them. More stock expected sometime next week. I'm excited:)

Tonight it is Emmylou Harris' All I Intended To be. 2 down, 73 more to go. I told ya I overdid it

This wonderful compilation of jazz ballads: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Jazz-For-Broken-Hearts/release/1263663 is stunning for its sonics.

Standout tracks:
1) Mel Torme - Gloomy Sunday. This is a dirge (I think). The brass section and the sax are at once restrained and strident in turn, with a decidedly restrained piano and standing bass.

2) Chet Baker - Born to be Blue. Very unusual right-handed keyboard work.

3) Dinah Washington - Cry Me A River. Now I know who Michael Buble was trying to ape when he covered this number. The unusual thing about this track is the main vocal is on the left channel and the right channel has the orchestra and the backing vocals. Most recordings even from pre-stereo days when played on stereo setup has the voice mixed dead center.

None of the remaining 15 tracks can be subtracted. This complilation is from the genteel and unhurried era of jazz when the voice was the main music and all instruments were accompaniments. The mix/mastering of each track emphasises the vocal. Just beautiful. Highly recommended, and I think a great introduction to vocal jazz.
