Old School electronic pop ...
Unlike some "best of" compilations (including the earlier Discography: The Complete Singles Collection), the tracks on the discs are not arranged chronologically, but split into two categories. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe split the tracks into ones they thought were pure pop music ("Pop") and the ones that they thought were more creative/experimental ("Art").
Used to listen to them back in the late 80s but lost track later.
Just found out that Vince Clarke was a founding member of Depeche Mode!
Three 80s band I love: Johny Hates Jazz, Spandau Ballet and Tears for Fears. Depeche Mode Mode was too alt for my more mainstream taste, though I fully agree that they're very inventive and creative. Ditto Pet Shop Boys. Erasure had one huge MTV hit that enjoyed lots of rotation.
Does any like Fine Young Cannibals? The simplicity and melody of "She Drives Me Crazy" is catchy.
+1 to Johnny Hates Jazz and FYC for She Drives Me Crazy. Most of my collection and listening is limited to 80s pop and 60s and 70s rock.
Would also add Duran Duran, Eurythmics (anything from Annie Lennox), Talking Heads, Lionel Richie, Chicago, Elton John, Foreigner, Genesis, and The Cars for some really popular music from that era.
