sam9s HTPC Project! powered by XBMC!!

Are you talking about booting into xbmc or changing the boot screen appearance? You don't need eventghost to change the boot screen. Just follow the steps I posted.

^^ He is talking about Boot screen.

@akki ... I will try to get the steps I followed for the same ....give me some time .. :-)

I clearly remember seeing dharma version while fiddling with weather settings and bingo I too get that script error message at the very end of the process just after where it shows XBMC 50%...does that mean I have downloaded and installed the Eden version in my system ?

EDEN version is not even officially released, not even beta, you can get the coder version though, (pre EDEN 11.x) but thats gonna be buggy as hell. Stay with Dharma as of now. Dharma is 10.1 ... EDEN will be 11.

I tested the weather plus plugin again, set the location as cochin on my dharma, and it worked except for the forecast. This plugin is buggy, it will randomly show script error message.

Settings --> appearance --> International (Region - India 12h/24h)
Weather --> change area code 1 --> New Delhi
Weather --> get more --> Weather plus
Settings --> provider (accuweather/english) --> run location selector (New Delhi) --> XBMC search 50% - error script failed !!!

Someone please help with setting up weather updates in XBMC.

TIA

Is this the way to do it, as I have 10.1 which is the "Dharma version" ???

It is (10.1) Dharma. This is my weather settings:

Change Area Code 1 - Cochin, India (actually this has no effect because weather plus has it's own location selector)
Weather - Weather Plus
Settings

Location 1

Provider - Accuweather.com Global, Language English.

The location selector is set to Cochin, Kerala, India. Sometimes it may get stuck at 50% while selecting the location. Please close XBMC and try again.
The error problem with weather seems to be random. Now it is not working.

I have made one user in win 7 directly logging into XBMC, as given in the sam9 in initial posts. Also configured Suspend to do logoff from current Win 7 user.

I use night skin. Can u guys tell the skin used?

About weather

Even I experienced script error with Weather Plus yesterday for more than 2 hours. I just disabled it, as i was not keen to have weather.

^^ akki, you dont need port forward, and public IP to controll XBMC via remote in your LAN. First make sure you are downloading the official XBMC Remote for Androis, then just get the host ip of your HTPC by ipconfig, it should be something like 192.168.x.y. Use that ip to configure the remote application. Port f/w and public is needed if you wanna do something from internet out side your LAN. (but then we have to secure the access as port f/w just like that makes your PC open for hacks and attacks from internet)

This post refers to using a projector on HTPC.

I read some posts in bluray forum on the frequency specifications when connecting HTPC to play 3D on a projector. It appears that the projectors may not have 'evolved' to match the high frequency refresh rates of the PC output.

I wanted to know if there would be limitations in using HTPC to view bluray movies on a projector as compared to simply using a dedicated bluray player.

ok did the weather experiment as well. I deleted all the setings and tried to recreate everything. ...now result is mixed bad, I did not face any plug crash or stopping at 50%. My location was correctly pin pointed by the weather plus. BUT the problem I am facing is ...

1. The location name somehow is not getting displayed when I go in to weather. It shows the temp and all the details but not the location name ...????

2. The temp is in F, and for some god damm reason I could not find how to change it to C ....:D ..... looked every where and it does not seem to provide the option to change the temp from F to C ....

But the plugin works, finds my location and displays the temp correctly as well.

Just now I tried 'World Weather Online' plugin on my pre-eden installation and it worked like a charm. Weather Plus still gives error. Image attached. Hope you don't mind.

@ Sam,

This is the one I installed in my phone official remote for XBMC which I believe is the same you're referring to, if not then please share the link here ....can you please list the steps to configure it in my phone your way...I obviously dont want my phone/net connection to be vulnerable to net hacks !!

TIA

Thanks Sam...got your point...logged into my BSNL a/c deleted port fwd and just configured it on XBMC remote with host ip of my HTPC...and this is even easier

^^ Thats good man, I have just sold out my desire HD to upgrade to Nexus so currently I am out of any Android phone till the time Nexus launches, so I was kinda stumped to provide you the snaps of my settings, but its good to know that you figured that out .....:-)

Its quite simple actually,

Anyone trying to configure xbmc app in android (ver 1.5 and above) phone

XBMC (HTPC) --> network --> check mark all options (share video-upnp+allow control upnp+allow control via http+ allow programs to control xbmc+allow other programs on ther system to control xbmc)

port - 8080 --> user - xbmc --> password (any)

Now in android phone - add host - name of instance (can be any) --> your internal ip (can find it in xbmc screen as well) --> port 8080 --> user and password (same as you fed in xbmc network in HTPC) --> leave all other boxes as they are

switch on wi-fi in phone and open xbmc in desktop (reconnect in phone if required) --> it should work !!

@ Sam..

My TV is Panasonic 42X20D (1024 x 768) now the thing is XBMC - UI takes up the whole screen even still images but movies 480p even 720p appear with black bars (top/bottom) eating up almost 50% of screen which is very annoying. I've tried a few diff resolution settings in HTPC and XBMC but nothing works. If I bump up the screen resolution there's no image and screen turns black. The best setting is 1024x768 in both HTPC and XBMC @75 hertz refresh rate.

I use a VGA cable to connect (no HDMI as you know) - 720p rips look STUNNING and 480p dont look any bad either but can something be done about those black bars ?

Other thing is my motherboard doesn't have an optical out on the rear I/O panel but on closer look at motherboard it seems there's a provision for S/PDIF connector which can be soldered, have you seen something like this and is it possible ?

TIA
