sam9s HTPC Project! powered by XBMC!!

SMPS. Get a branded SMPS like corsair. Your iball smps may not be able to supply the required power.
Can you see the activity LEDs blinking while switching on? Does the fans work?

Thanks SAM and Baiju, there was a problem with the mobo, as it was under warranty I got replacement. With new mother board, graphic card is working.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Samret for his guidance.

My understanding of NAS and HTPC is limited to expanding the abbreviation and nothing else.

I had written a detailed mail to him and he took time out to write an even more detailed response and he even followed up to ensure I had no more doubts.

Sad part is that I myself am not smart enough to understand the technicalities of his email and since I am currently in a transition phase (moving between jobs) - have not taken this forward.

Still - I am extremely happy that people on this forum go out of their way to help.

Three cheers to this forum and its members and also to Sam9s:clapping::clapping::clapping:

Apologies for a later response on this ..... down with viral from the last 5 days or so .... still not fully recovered .......

Its always my pleasure to assist as much as I can and I know ........ :)

Sam, I wanted to know, if you take backup of xbmc deployment(config + library) frequently. What is the easy and reliable method to backup this.

I am planning to change the HDD in my HTPC. All movies are in nas box only xbmc config and library is in HDD. I want the backup to be taken in such a way, that after installing new HDD, I need to just copy/restore the backup to start using xbmc. The backup restoration should result in

1) Library same as before
2) Skin with all settings as before
3) All background images being used
4) All library thumbs and fanarts same as existing

Just backup the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\XBMC. This is where all the library, thumbnails, fanarts, settings, adons, skins etc. are stored. After installing xbmc, replace the folder with the backup. You could also export movie library files from the video settings. This will backup all the thumbnail, fanart and nfo file to the same folder as that of the movie.

Thanks for the tip.

I have customised the main screen(using aeon nox) with very minimal menus like only movies, settings, shutdown. In movies having 5 playlists as submenus. Also having multiple pics(folder with pics) for background for movies and settings. Pics handpicked for background are currently kept in c:\programfiles\xbmc\userdata, so I assume this folder also needs to be backed up along with the one mentioned in your post. Alternately I can move this folder into c:\users\<user name>\appdata\roaming\xbmc\

Hi Guys,

I am not starting a new thread instead posting in this thread as I am sure you guys would have figured out a way to do this.

I am sucessfully running a HTPC from past couple of years. I bought a generic remote with an IR receiver to use with my HTPC and it worked okey for what it was worth.

Just recently I got too hassled with my other three remotes(TSHD,LCD,HTiB) so i bought a Harmony 300. Got it off eBay for a price which I think is a steal(1.5K Shipped). So now i have configured the three to work with my Harmony just the HTPC is left. Suggest me. I am attching the Pic of the generic remote which I am using right now. I understand i need to use the IR receiver of the same for harmony to work with the PC. I just don't want to spend endless hours figuring it out. Let me know the easy way out :).

TIA

Usually stutter happens in XBMC Frodo if audio device is not selected properly. I have problems if optical out is selected, because then xbmc will convert aac audio to ac3 and this causes slight stuttering. There are lots of thread on this problem in xbmc forum like this http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=153336

The best way is to use a third party player like TMT5 until Frodo is release officially.

problem solved !!! seems a Frodo glitch, I just switched the Audio from DirectSound: HDMI to WASAPI: HDMI and it solved. Apparently otherwise it was sabotaging all videos with DTS* audio tracks (yes the effect was on the video but cause was Audio).

Finally XBMC 12 'Frodo' released. Picture quality seems to be improved and many problems have been ironed out. Audio Engine seems to be stabilized. I could not test HD audio as I don't have AVR.

^^ lol I turned to my thread to post the same, and I see baijuxavior beating me ...... :)
Anyway I will post the features page ....

Features

I will try to test the HD Audio this Weekend.

The new version of Madvr got released sometime back. Here is the link. I have uninstalled the previous version and registered the new version and there is some slight improvement in the picture in fast moving objects especially action scenes. Anybody using it can try it out.

Thanks

Will I be able to utilize this if I have a ATI Raedon GPU?

the RC3 Android version crashes and never opens on my Veedee Android ICS tab. hope to find some more updates to the Android XBMC

We have 12.0 Frodo stable version for Android Now ..

http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/android/xbmc-12.0-Frodo-armeabi-v7a.apk

What was important for me were ..

Added initial Android (operating system) port with multi-architecture platform support
Added NEON (Advanced SIMD instruction set) CPU acceleration support for ARM architecture
Added dedicated AMLPlayer video player for hardware accelerated video decoding on Amlogic
Added support for OpenGL ES hardware accelerated rendering of XBMC's GUI engine on Android
