Thanks G0bblee..

It seems to be out of stock in itdepot. Can you telll me where else it is available as I do not see anything similar online. Also is there any other brand available with the similar features. Thanks..

Hello Sam, this is not related to the HTPC build rather the next part, building the movie library, please excuse me if this is not the correct place....
I have a PCH A-210 as my media player and i'm in the process of converting my blu ray library to iso.

I have AnyDVDHD which creates either the blu ray folder structure or ISO files which is 1:1 copy. So generally I end up with 35-40 GB files which is fine for the movies I really like. But for other movies i don't want to waste my HDD space I need a smaller file. I don't mind having 10-12 GB files per movie. But I need to have untouched 1080p video and the best possible audio in the bluray disc. In nutshell the best possible audio video without other (annoying) extras like BD-live, Other language audio tracks etc.,

I'm doing some experiments with ClownBD (with eac3to, tsMuxeR,ffdshow etc.,) but can u suggest a best possible way to do this?

Thank you....

Well with untouched audio and video you will still end up with a huge file. Usually we can reduce the size of the disk to half if we remove all extras and HD audio (keep DTS only), so say a BD is 40 GB, by removing all the extras and HD audio you can bring down the size to 20GB. But if you really want to save space I would recommend compress the video to a respectable bitrate which would land you a file size between 5-10Gb and would have enough quality to satisfy most of the users.

I have a details guide for the same ...... follow it and you would be happy with your rip and encoding .... :)

Sam,

I am in process of building my HTPC on Sandy Bridge platform.

As a trial run have installed XBMC on my old quad core desktop, and its working cool for all English movies.

Since my HTPC will host all my collections of DVDs and Bluray rips (Hindi/English), I tried looking for scrapper for Indian/Hindi movies all over internet and XBMC forums, with no results.

Let us know if you have any solution for this issue.

Or probably we can start dedicated XBMC support thread for all those XBMC based HTPC aspirants. :clapping:

Rajesh

^^ errrr XBMC capturs and loads HINDI (atleast latest) movies just fine.I tried on 7,8 hindi movies and XBMC was able to capture the scrappers perfectly. See what ever is available at IMDB, there are 95% chances that XBMC will capture the details.
Ok try Media Center Master (link on the first page). Let MCM find your hindi movies and prepare the XML and nfo file. Then copy the folder in you XBMC library and rescan. I am pretty confident that its gonna find the information..... let me know

Hi,

Didn't know where to put in my query and hence marking it in this thread. I have a query regarding the tv resolution. My htpc mobo is gigabyte 880GM USB3.0 and i have connected it thru hdmi to my sony bravia v-series (dont remember the exact model). It shows as 1080p on my tv but when i try to change the default resolution thru xbmc it always remains as 1366x768. What should be correct resolution and sometimes there is no sound output in the tv. I have put the audio setting as Analog and enabled the DXVA.

Hope your TV is full HD and not HD ready (1366x768 is HD ready). XBMC resolution should be 1920x1080. Whats the model of your TV. Check if its full HD, then we will see the next point of troubleshooting .....

Thanks sam..
Oh i think i got it. My tv is hd ready and not full hd . Yes i can confirm this from the sony site. So what should be the correct resolution.

I checked from the itdepot.com and it seems that they do not have the stock and not sure when the stock might arrive. So hunting for this bay or something similar. I was able to find one in amazon Amazon.com: StarTech.com Slim Optical 3.5-Inch Hard Drive Mounting Bracket for 5.25-Inch Front Bay SLIMCDFDCAGE (Black): Electronics. But it looks pricey with the landed cost coming to around 3k thru shopyourworld.com. Going to hunt down a similar bay in SP Road, Bangalore this weekend. Hopefully can find out something..

1366 x 768 is the correct resolution for HD ready displays. Ops this resolution in XBMC so that your source and display resolution matches ....

@sam9s I have few queries about remote used with HTPC

1)Can I use my bluetooth enabled mobile (LG) to control my pc application (like XBMC,VLC ...).What are all the requirements for using mobile to communicate with pc(in mobile as well as in pc).
2)I am considering to purchase Airtel DVR,it has universal remote what is the potential of this remote can I control HTPC and Onkyo receiver with this.

None of the application I know can be controlled over Bluetooth. Most of them work on wifi. Also XBMC and VLC are two different things. XBMC has native Android Remote which you can download from the market if you have an android phone. Where as applications like VLC, MPC can be controlled by other android tools like "Remote Launcher" but all of these work only on wifi network.
The requirement for using mobile to communicate with PC is that the PC is connected to the network (via router) that can be accessed by your phone via wifi ......simple. All you have to do then is download the android application (assuming you have android phone. iOS also has most of the tools needed) and start using it to control your PC applications.

There is one Remote HID which is a generic one to replicate the keyboard up/down and mouse movments. I had used it long time back in my SonyEricson mobile. I will check it and let you know.

Checked in SP Road and couldnt get anything similar to the above. So got a external plastic casing for the slim blu-ray drive and it comes with the 2 ports for power and data thru usb2.0. I installed it and works fine but my htpc case has an opening now as i put the drive outside. Let me try to find out for some more time or else the only other way put it on sale and get a proper internal blu-ray drive.

1. If your mobile supports HID, then you can use the mobile as a keyboard. Even if it doesn't support HID, don't worry. You can use a tool Bluetooth Remote Control, mobile phone remote control for windows, powerpoint, itunes, winamp, mouse to control pc applications. You will need to install this software in the pc and a client application in phone. The software has inbuilt support for winamp, itunes etc. You can write codes to control XBMC, VLC etc. Another tool is Vectir - IR, WiFi and Bluetooth Remote Control, Mobile Phone PC Media Player Controller

A better option will be to buy a remote control like PC Media Center Remote Control with Infrared USB Recei | eBay. This works with XBMC without any coding. I have checked it with XBMC.

2. Airtel remote control can be programmed to control another device like TV. What you do is to point the remote control of the other device to the airtel remote control and copy the codes by pressing each button.

I am using Windows 7 x64 ulti for the moment, but I dont load explorer, instead guide windows to load XBMC even before explorer loads, making it boot faster. How ever the idea of XBMC live is also not bad, but if you plan to use Live I will recommend another product based on XBMC live only, its called Open ELEC. Its basically based on XBMC itself and acts as live as well, but is been customized to give a
better experience. I have tried it and I would definately suggest it above XBMC Live!.

About BluRay..... are you asking about Bluray ISO or Discs, for Disc I actually already have Pana BD60 BD player. For ISO I use the combination of Virtual Clone Drive and Total Media Theater5. A small script tells XBMC to mount the ISO in my drive and TMT5 to play it, so that I get for HD audio. Checkout my video.

Yep I have the subtitle and lyrics plugin. Radio I havent tried yet, but will definitely give it a try

Hi sam
I am thinking of using the openelec but majority of the reviews suggest it for ION/Intel based machines and not AMD/ATI based. Can i use this for blu-ray playback as in xbmc with external player (PowerDVD11) by modifying the xml.

Its recommended for ION based HTPCs coz its light on hardware, not because its less on features ....... what ever one can do with XBMC for windows one can do with OPENElec as well. How ever I have not personally tried it so, I suggest experiment with it ...... try all the stuff and if all goes well, finalize it ... that is what I did when I first installed XBMC on windiows .......

Guys,
Can some one recommend me a good AGP video card?. I have a ATI Radeon 9800 which seems to be malfunctioning and want to replace it. I have a empty PCI slot also. I will not
be gaming but would like to use this for HTPC functionalities.

Thank you.
