sam9s HTPC Project! powered by XBMC!!

I dont think we get new AGP cards now. PCI slot cannot be used for a GPU. You need PCIe. If your Radeon 9800 has gone bad either you try to get a second hand AGP GPU from forums or Shops OR upgrade your hardware ....

Its recommended for ION based HTPCs coz its light on hardware, not because its less on features ....... what ever one can do with XBMC for windows one can do with OPENElec as well. How ever I have not personally tried it so, I suggest experiment with it ...... try all the stuff and if all goes well, finalize it ... that is what I did when I first installed XBMC on windiows .......

I installed it yesterday and ran into some issues like no sound output even after i made changes of audio output to hdmi/analog/default. Also it seems that if i use openelec i cannot make changes to add an external player for playing blu-ray disc. So decided to go back to the tried and tested win7 lite version with xbmc and powerdvd 11.

^^ mmmm so if you are okie with XBMC for windows on lite version, stick with it ..... at the end all that matters is what are you comfortable with ...... stick with XBMC for windows and then keep configuring it per your needs .....

Hi Sam,

I am still running some problems with launching external player (powerdvd 11) for blu-ray disc playback from xbmc. I added the playercorefactory.xml to the userdata folder and do I need to make any more changes. I did change the skin to Aeon so that I can get the menu item "Play disc" but when i click on this nothing happens no buffering/timing etc., it just stays there..will try out today night and see what happens..

Share the contents of XML file here .... there must a BAT file as well that you must have created ... share that as well .....

BTW whats your hardware for HTPC..?

I am running into trouble to load win7 on the openelec system. I am not able format the hard disk as it is not recognised when i put in the win7 cd.

^^ That is a total off topic issue ....... PM with your details and what exactly are you trying to do and I shall try to assist you .....

I figured out the issue and was able to load win7. Now i followed this topic AVForums.com - View Single Post - Jamesaevans?s Gaming HTPC Build Log and did all the changes by creating a batch file and the playercorefactory.xml. I installed TMT5. Now when i click on playdisc in xbmc i get a message like external player active, cllick ok when playback has ended. And the down right corner i can see the name of blu-ray disc movie (chronicles_of_narnia) with timing 00:01. Here is the my xml
"<playercorefactory>
<players>
<player name="PlayDisc" type="ExternalPlayer" audio="false" video="true">
<filename>c:\FOR_XBMC\BATCH_FILES\PlayDisc.bat</filename>
<args>"{1}" /fullscreen /close</args>
<forceontop>false</forceontop>
<hidexbmc>false</hidexbmc>
<hidecursor>false</hidecursor>
</player>
</players>
<rules action="prepend">
<!-- Bluray Disc -->
<rule protocols="bd" player="PlayDisc"/>
</rules>
</playercorefactory>"
Hope you can point out where the missing link is :)

First are you trying to play a BluRay Disc or a DVD Disc or a Disc ISO.
Second also list the contents of your BAT file.

You didnt answer ......whats your hardware for HTPC..?

1. If your mobile supports HID, then you can use the mobile as a keyboard. Even if it doesn't support HID, don't worry. You can use a tool Bluetooth Remote Control, mobile phone remote control for windows, powerpoint, itunes, winamp, mouse to control pc applications. You will need to install this software in the pc and a client application in phone. The software has inbuilt support for winamp, itunes etc. You can write codes to control XBMC, VLC etc.

A better option will be to buy a remote control like PC Media Center Remote Control with Infrared USB Recei | eBay. This works with XBMC without any coding. I have checked it with XBMC.

2. Airtel remote control can be programmed to control another device like TV. What you do is to point the remote control of the other device to the airtel remote control and copy the codes by pressing each button.

Thank you for detailed reply I installed software from blueshareware.com on pc but when I tried to insall jar file in my Lg gs 190 I am receiving the following error message "Does not have permission it requires".

Is it possible to control other application using the usb remote control you mentioned.I have seen another variety of the remote for the same purpose priced in the range Rs.700.

If you program airtel remote to different device I could not figure out what will happen if I press a button which configured for several devices (tv,stb,onkyo receiver ...) then what happened.Is it possible to control htpc with this remote.

1. Did you install the jar file successfully? If so set permissions for the application by selecting the options from the phone. I'm not familiar with LG phones. But all phones have some permission settings for java like allow reading from memory, allow write to memory etc. I have SE phone and for setting the permission I do this - Open the application folder. Highlight the application. Select more > Permissions.

2. I have a Rs. 700/- Remote control bought from ebay. Using this I can control WMP, KMP, Media monkey, etc. What this remote control do is to send the keycode corresponding to the key you pressed. So you will need to enable or change the hot keys for these applications.

3. My friend has Airtel connection and he has configured it to control his TV. Only one device can be added. I don't know whether it can be used for HTPC.

Oh sorry i forgot to mention regarding my hardware.
Gigabyte 880GM USB3.0 with onboard graphics, AMD Athlon 2, 4GB RAM, Silverstone GD04B case, Silverstone PSU with 500W, LG CT21N slim blu-ray drive, 30gb Kingston SSD and Win7Ultimate.
Coming to my issue i was trying to play a blu-ray disc with region free (Narnia). Regarding the batch file i just followed the avsforum thread listed in my previous post. I created a batch file with name "PlayDisc.bat" with the following content --"C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Theatre 5\uMCEPlayer5.exe" E:-- where E stands for my blu-ray drive.

From the xbmc forums i found that we need to set the option "use windowed fullscreen instead of true fullscreen" and my tmt player opened up in full screen mode and the disc started playing...:yahoo:

BRC - Bluetooth Remote Control.

Which TV tuner? If it is Pinnacle and the IR receiver is connected to the serial port then we can control other applications also, by editing a settings file.

@sam9s,I could not bitstream audio from htpc (Amd 6570 gpu) to my home theater (Onkyo hts 3400) I even tried PowerDVD but there is only one option (Settings<Audio<Outputmode<PCM Decoded by PowerDVD)listed in audio section.One more query related to XBMC I could not get this kind of movie browsing in my system

The bitstream option appears in powerdvd after you start a movie with hd audio. Its a weird bug. Did you try ffdshow with mpc-hc? It works for sure.
