Samsung named LCD TV market leader
October 20, 2009
Samsung Electronics sold one million units of its first full line of advanced LED HDTVs over a six month period from their launch in March, making it leader of the global LED TV market.
The company holds 90% of the global LED market, and hopes to sell 3.7 million units in 2009.
The company was also recognised as leader in the LCD TV market, in Frost & Sullivans 2009 Award for Market Leadership of the Year.
Samsung leads the global LCD TV market, achieving a share of over 22% in 2008.
Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Karthik Kamalakannan said: Samsung LCD TVs are increasingly preferred despite the higher average selling price, thus establishing them as premium products among competition.
Samsung also announced its Internet@TV feature which allows widgets for streaming content from Blockbuster On Demand and Amazon Video On Demand services using the Internet@TV feature offered on LCD and Plasma HDTVs Series 650 and above and LED-backlit HDTVs Series 7000 and above.
