Samsung Plasma PS50C6500 Owners Thread (Impressions,Settings, Issues)

- Change the model to c8000 (if it is greyed out - then nothing can be done)

I HAVE ACTUALLY FOUND A WAY TO GET CINEMA SMOOTH FOR ALL THE C6500 OWNERS WHO COULD NOT CHANGE TO C8000

go into the Service Menu and select CONTROL-->SUB OPTIONS-->24Px4 SUPPORT. This can be set on ON and OFF. Put it ON and enjoy cinema smooth :clapping:

Re: Wall mounting spares not available with Samsung..

Update for all the new owners: Samasung service center in Chennai does not have the spares of wall mounting brackets for PS50C6500.
ETA - 10 days. Pain to see me new TV still lying in the box

why don't you set it up on the stand till the wall mount arrives. That is what I have done.

I am planning to do an upgrade tonight. Any advice? Do I need to read up the pdf guide or are there simpler steps?
TV put on inverter supply.

When you change from c7000 to c8000 in the service menu, do you, in effect, actually activate the Real Black Filter, or do you simply gain access to the the additional configuration options of the c8000?

CES video reports that the Real Black Filter is incorporated with the glass screen - but no one has reported any actual success yet!

Sorry what does that mean? Could you please explain further?

it must be only the config options, real black filter is some kind of A.R coating on the screen ,so that wouldnt be something that can be activated by service menu isnt it?,

but if it's only a coating on the screnn, why would there be a menu option to unable/disable it?

p.s. Cinema Smooth can only be activated when watching 24p content like blu rays. Everytime you are not watching 24p content, the Film Mode submenu (or the cinemasmooth option) will be greyed out.
Also make sure that your bluray player is sending this kind of signal out. I found out (after 2 hours of getting crazy and not knowing how to activate the cinema smooth ) that my bluray player did not have the 24p option enabled. I enabled it from the bluray player menu, and the cinemasmooth option appeared.

Thanks Markross for the step by step procedure, it works even on my 50c550, cinemasmooth option is now available . Great tip

@ Markross

you have any tips on how to install firmware available in the Samsung Europe or USA website into the Indian version of this tv ?

cause the last firmware update in Samsung India for this TV was in Oct 10 but Europe has firmware up to DEC 10.

Do you know how to change this tv to C8000 even if that option is grayed out for certain countries?

No worries, today i've given you a great tip, tomorrow you'll give one to me... the beauty of the internet
p.s.
You can also activate the PVR , it's just a few line under the option 24px4. It's the option called PVR support. When you activate this you have to make sure to have a USB plugged in the TV (and the usb must be formatted in FAT32).
Refer to this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQZylco1EH8
it's not in english, but you can follow what he does

hi, for the firmware I would just download it on my pc from the US or European website, put it on a USB, plug it in the TV, click Menu on your remote and go to the submenu called Support and then Software Upgrade. However, I do not suggest you do this. With the firmwares it's very dangerous and it could damage your TV if you use the wrong firmware.

If you want to change your model to c8000 you can even if the option is greyed out
Just follow the following steps
1- turn the tv on by hitting POWER
2- hit MUTE 1 1 9 ENTER
3- A menu will appear that says Hotel mode OFF
4- click on the RIGHT ARROW on the remote twice, to set HOTEL MODE = ON

A message about a USB will appear
10- Hit ENTER/OK (which is the button inside the 4 directional arrows on your remote)
An extended menu will appear
11- Hit RETURN
12- Hit RETURN
13- Scroll to OPTION and hit RIGHT ARROW
14- Scroll to MODEL NUMBER (it's not grayed out anymore ;)) and HIT RIGHT ARROW
15 - Look for the model number c8000 by hitting either the right or left arrow
16 - Once you have found the model number hit RETURN
17- Hit RETURN
18- Scroll to CONTROL and hit RIGHT ARROW
19- Scroll to Hotel Option
20- Hit RIGHT ARROW
21- The first line says Hotel Mode, hit Right Arrow twice to set Hotel Mode= OFF
22- Turn the TV off by hitting Power

Enjoy your C8000 :D

Thanks for that C8000 model change tip, will try this tomorrow.

I know how to update the firmware but the problem is Indian Samsung website don't have the latest firmware like then euro Samsung site, so when i try and down load the firmware from euro site for this tv and update it does not work.

They say the latest firmwares improves the black level performance of this tv but Indian site only has firmware from Oct 2010 while Europe have firmware updated up to Dec 2010.

usually there is a few months delay , in launching the latest firmware on indian website,i am sure in a couple of months time it will come out.

The PVR feature

1. Set time and record video
2. Watch it again at any time.

Requirements

1. Samsung is picky about USB sticks/HDD - not all are recognized
2. Speed requirements- at least 5 Mbps read/write for the device (preferably more)
3. Device is reformatted by Samsung (considering they use linux - it might be standard ext2- could also be VFAT)
4. You can't plug it into a windows PC and play it again (for non-tech users)

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
