Sherwood 4108 DVD - no disc?

Hello - I'm always behind in technology. I have a 8 year old Sherwood DVD player that has not been used much. When I insert a DVD I keep getting a "no disc" message. I opened it up but can't see anything obvious. The player has never been abused or dropped. Any ideas? I just connected it to our first flat screen TV purchased last week. Had to take our 15 year old 32 inch Panasonic tube TV to the land fill - could not give it away. I think it weighted 200 lbs.

May be the lens is dirty. Use a CD lens cleaner.

Just tried the Dynex lens cleaner. It worked fine. I could hear the directions no problem. After cleaning I tried afew DVDs - still says no disc.

I took the DVD player case off and poked around. Used some Windex to clean the lens. Everything seemed fine - but still "no disc" message. Any ideas? Really can't afford a new machine.

Do you think I should bring the DVD player to best buy to see if they can fix it?

There are a few things you can try - it just may be dust on the spindle, or
a bad connection. You may need to open the loader/drive, and clean the
spindle, and adjust the height if required.
