Sherwood BDP - 5004 'No Disc' Problem

Oops.. It was from Vinod.....

However it is an common problem with few(*** pieces***) of DVD/BD player( including samsung/LG) it will not do the function properly and there are complaints in the forums too.

May be you can consult with some local CD repairing shop what they will conclude if the disc was not detected in an new player.. May be shift of laser lens from the throw direction???? Don't know technically..May be slight adjustment can make the things alright. or Make an joint attempt with Vinod to open the panel and clean the lens internally.

I am also using this player. But never faced such an issue of 'no disc'. However i tried with only one blu-ray disc which was a brand new unopened one. The player failed to play a few dvd discs which were copied using nero in disc copy method. However it played flawlessly two badly scratched dvds which were not playable in my lg and pioneer dvdps and the dvd drives of my pc.

No man, i have not tried CD and DVDs....any way onething i noticed is that i played two Region A discs and it played first..when i tried to play A,B,C it is cribbing for couple of times and showing No Disc......eventually it played....As suggested by baijuxavior , i changed the dvd region to 1, which caused a slight improvement..But still the problem exists.....

Also this Sherwood 5004 takes hell lot of time to load compared to sony 370......

Loading time is slow (also) due to the large scale java contents in the recent discs, only the latest players with updated firmware will load easily. However sony is bit slow comparing to Panasonic.

What is the next step.. Have you checked with any local repairwala to clarify what will be the problem? Have you clean the lens>

Not asking you to take repair shops,,,, Just ask them by visiting what will be the potential problem and if they have identified if any....( if they face " NO Disc" in an brand new player ). Surely they could have come across with somebody for an CD or DVD player..

Yeah idlebrain, it really lacks consistent.....it plays almost all the discs but i need to eject/insert back atleast 5-6 times...very rarely it plays on the first shot...Compared to this my sony Bdp 370 plays on the first shot all the movies i tried last one year.. only down grade of sony is region C player.....may be i will get a disc cleaner disc and tried to clean it......Also while playing dvds, it looks like i need to set the resolution to 720p...it does not work properly at all with 1080p and 1080i......which was never a case with Sony......Overall i would give this player a thumbs down......

There's certainly some problem with your piece. My player is set to 1080p
and connected via HDMI. And it plays DVDs perfectly, with pretty good
up-conversion.
Since it would be under warranty, do not take it to any local repair chaps.
Either contact Sherwood, or return it to the seller or to Amazon.

Now i have connected my sony bdp 370 also with this...Bought an extra hdmi cable...so i have decided i will use this #$!(!$@$ sherwood only to play region A & B bds only...I am frustrated with it really....

sukhas19 - with reference to post #29 (and your issues informed in this thread), it would be probably a hardware issue. Sometimes One or two of the items in the lot may face issues. You would need to check with the sherwood service center. Please check with Jin Yoo who is in Sherwood America, Inc at [email protected]
Probably you would get a lead from him.

hi

Just see if he can just ship the defective part alone and provide instructions of how to fix it in the player?

If so, we can just ship the defective part according to him and fix it ourselves.

Just a thought, that is all!

Regards

Yes i just sent him a mail...Let us wait and watch...Vinod let me know if you know any fundu electronic repairing guy in bangalore......It should not be a rocket science to fix the hardware issue...

There is no response from Sherwood....I think I am just talking to some wall.....And shipping the player back to USA will be as good buying a new one..Isn't it cost wise??

Are there no electronic gurus in HFV? I wish some one gives me a good lead on this issue and so far all are just some random thoughts which even a guy like me who does not have too much electronic knowledge can make......

Yes i can take the player to some hardware service guy and make the player screwed up forever....I am keeping that option as the last one....
