hey guys,
need some advice from u guys.. I want to get a LCD of around 40" with a very tight budget in Mumbai. had been to a couple of places.. Vijay sales and croma too..
found a few LCDs ranging around the same price ..
Sorry i cant recollect the model no. of any of the LCDs. but if you guys can help ..pls do the needful .. there were 4 LCDs - Vu and Sansui brush - both 40" both 30,000 in croma.. croma guys pushing to sell the VU one.
While Toshiba and Videocon in Vijay sales for 31,000
.. So guys any suggestions for which one could be the best??

Which model is it?

The Toshiba 40AV700e isn't a bad model. I was seriously considering this @34.7k till i came across the Samsung LA40C550 for 40K. I thot the allshare + USB playback of the samsung was worth the extra amount.

As a stand along purchase, It's good value.

I'll need to make another visit to VS coz i dont really remember the model no. But i will update that soon here..
by the way.. where did u brought your samsung LA40C550 for 40K and when?

the Toshiba lcd I m talking abt is Toshiba 40AV10 - resolution 1920x1080
available @ 31,000 Rs at vijay sales..
there is also a llyod L42HDU @ Rs.35,000
also friends I m not willing to buy anything online.. so if u guys can help me wid some better deals where I can go nd see the tv myself .. will b great

I have a Toshiba 40AV700E and it's a pretty neat no-frills TV.

I wanted a good display panel - no other needs like USB playback of videos etc or networking. It fits the bill perfectly.

Yeah even i think so i should seal on toshiba 40AV10.. coz the AV700E is out of my budget .. every other tv mentioned above is also around (47-50,000)

Hi Cooldeep 10:
Last week I bought 40" Toshiba PS 10ZE (LED) @ Rs.43000/- and got it wall mounted on 30/12/11. THe picture quality, audio, USB playback is awesome. In fact the PQ is better than Sony (I have a 40" LED) and the speakers are far superior than Sony. If you can stretch your budget a bit, do go in for this. It is available in Croma, Fort. Since Toshiba is introducing newer models in 2012, dealers are offering great discounts now.

I recently got for my office , a 24 inch Toshiba LCD which is HD ready , for rs. 13.7 K from Vijay sales , and I am very happy with it. It has very good contrast and colours , most of visitors in my office have all noticed its very good picture. At least two have said they will go for Toshiba brand for their own second or third tv in home . IMO , Toshiba deserves better brand position .

The TV is not a full HD one. samsung 43D490 will be a better TV at a couple of thousands more, even though that too is not full HD

There are two views on whether full HD and HD ready makes any difference in 42 inch size. The generally held view is that it does not. But I disagree with it.

The accepted rule on viewing distance is that to get the full benefit of full HD, the viewing distance shall be 1.5 times of the size. For 42 inch it is 63 inch, that is 5 feet. No body is going to watch the TV at that close range. Beyond 63 inch, the benefit of full HD is not discernible. That is why, for 42 inch, it is said that HD ready is sufficient. Since in plasma, the light is emitted by the phosphor (pixel) it self ( as against backlighting in LCD) it also helps to hide the pixelisation.

Even then, for those with a sharp eye, there is a difference between full HD and HD ready when full HD content is watched even at 6-8 feet. If the watching distance is even beyond that there is no point in spending money for full HD.

Really cheap plasmas all are HD ready, execpt for panasonic 42U30. Even then the HD ready samsung 43D490 is the best value for money, to the best of my knowledge. 43D490 is a 3D TV as well. If you are not in a hurry, you can also wait for 2012 line up of plasmas / LCDs. Good full HD plasmas available only in sizes 50 inch and above.

LCD or Plasma ? again a disputed point. Plasmas generally have better picture and better blacks as the light is emitted from the pixels. They are fast as well, making suitable for watching movies and sports. But when the room have much light and light directly falls on the TV, plasmas is at a disadvantage. You have to use LCD, even if you are a fan of plasmas.

A lot of discussions are available on this forum on these topics. Take some time to browse through them and take your own decisions.

Regarding prices, visit the nearby shops. Prices at online sites can be taken as a guideline to determine whether the prices quoted at shops are reasonable or not. Many good 42 inch full HD LCDs are available at 40 K or lower. Unless you are a videophile or want 3D at low cost, these are sufficient for a common man.

IMO, if you do not have any day light source like window or door on the opposite direction of your TV wall, buy a plasma. Go for HD (1080i / 720p) . No need to spend more on full HD until you go larger than 42. Panasonic should be an automatic choice here.

On the other hand, if there happens to be a light source in front if your TV wall, well, you don't have much choice... you change your TV wall! YES, plasma is ThAT far better than an LCD and costs much less than a same size LCD. Another thing is, if you are choosing LCD of a size larger than 32inch, you better go for a full HD capable piece, as the back lit bright picture will shamelessly cry out foul with pixxellation.

@god2007 and paritosh... thank u guys.. ur feedback has helped me made the decision.. i will going for a plasma
i hv 2 options

samsung ps43d450 (samsung official gallery price - 45000 and croma price - 40000)
and
LG 42pt560R (LG official gallery price - 43000 and croma price - 38000 and Kohinoor price - 39000)

I dont want a 3D tv, and i can buy only by the means of EMI
firstly pls help me choose between these two plasma.... the croma guy says that the LG volume is 6 times more than the samsung plasma. he gave me the demo too.
but ppl say that samsung is always the best
other thing is... that i m scared if i will end up buying a display/demo piece.. the croma guy was really pushing for buying the LG plasma. both samsung and LG had a difference of 2000 rs samsung being the higher. But the down payment and EMI payment for LG plasma where surprisingly low. it was available for 8500rs and then 14 EMIs of around 2000 rs.
where as the samsung plasma was having the regular 33% down payment and 8months emi scheme.
when i asked the croma guy abt if i would get a factory sealed piece, the first time he said yes... i again told him that are you sure... this time he replied that i'll be back.. in 2 mins
after 2 mins he came back and told me yes i'll 100% get a factory sealed product.. but this is what every body else said. in the official samsung and LG gallery too.. i got the same answer..
but i am doubtful abt the croma one... bcoz when i asked him that in the official gallery there is a difference of 5000 rs... how is it possible for u to sell at such a low price... he didnt had a proper answer ...he replied coz we hv the stock...that's why and also lied that this was bcoz of the sunday offer.. (my brother went to check the same model a couple of days back and it was the same prize)

... these retailers will lie to sell every extent to sell what they want..
and i m left clueless should i save 5000 and get it frm croma or go for the official gallery piece... will the official LG/ samsung guys give a genuine factory sealed Plasma???

:(

Buy Samsung, don't go for LG Plasma. I've got a LG one and it developed a fault within 8 months (a vertical line in the left side of the screen) and waiting for the service guys to replace the panel.

The price given by Samsung gallery is MRP and the selling price is usually 10% lesser everywhere (not just Croma's or Vivek's). Bargain with the sales guy and you can get this TV for 39-40K from Samsung gallery itself.

Hi,
My preference also will be Samsung instead of LG. Also take a look a Panasonic 42U30 since its a full HD plasma and should be available within 40K range. Regarding the demo, don't accept the delivery if its not a sealed piece. I got my plasma from Croma and it was factory sealed piece.
