Sony 8G vs LG C9

Your current tv is w950c, full HD model i guess. You are exactly in my position. My TV was w950D and i got Samsung the frame without even demo'ing it. That was the blunder from my side! Luckily I could return, thanks to flipkart.

After that mistake, I spent almost one month by visiting various showrooms for demo. Two TVs were in my list, X950g and C9. But believe me, after various and prolonged demo(mainly DTH content), i could very easily reject X950g and it replaced with Samsung Q80R. I was only looking for 55 inch model and X950g is poor in that, especially it had worst viewing angle.

Though Q80R came little closer to C9, but cheaper price, one connect box, oled burn in issue... All these made me to favor towards Q80R, but again the bad experience with frame tv( and of course @Marak inputs) helped me to choose C9.

But wow, what a difference it made! I no longer prefer w950D(it's in bedroom). Definitely C9 is top notch.

Sometimes now I feel, i should have gone for 65 inch C9 instead of 55C9 :( But due to limited space, had to restrict myself to 55C9!

Man! I feel your pain. Can't wait to upgrade to a bigger size! Already planning for a 77 inch one 4 years down the line...after making space for it. 8k would be the new 4k then.

I have also finalised on the c9 65 inches only. Just waiting for the price to go down.

So I have finalised on 65 inches. So from the picture which is my current set up I have 2 issues.

1.Highlighted is 65 inches. The LR will be hit. I can slightly move the LR but the tv will be kissing the speakers. Dali’s are not magnetic shielded so are OLEDs sensitive near magnets or is it safe to keep them kissing the speakers.

2.The main switch board for the room will be completely hidden behind. I need to slide my hands through the gap of the left speaker. Has any one had this issue and done any modifications?

Just a suggestion, why don't you consider going for Alexa controlled fan, AC, light etc.

Mine is hidden behind the TV. I wouldn't have it any other way. Don't want to see the switchboard. Don't know about magnetic shielding though.

How does that work? How does it communicate with each other? Do I need to get compatible devices? And also does it involve wiring? Hope it isn’t expensive

If hidden behind tv how do you use it? Dam I was about to book 55 but my friend brain washed me saying that I’ll regret 55 inch. He has a 55 inch Tcl and he said after few movies he felt 55 is small and doesn’t feel big

LG's wall mount and OLED's thin panel means there's plenty of space; about 5 inches. 55 does feel small for me too from 8 feet. I got used to the size pretty quick. 65 inch would have been perfect.

1. As far as I know, LCD/OLED TVs are not affected by unshielded speakers.

2. There are some dummy covering plates in the switch board on right hand side just below the TV. I think you can shift all the switches and controls except the plug points for the TV , AV and SUB from the top main switch boards to the bottom switch board. I mean only plug points but not switches for TV, AV and SUB on the top board. For all these plugs, switches can be placed on the bottom board. If there is no plenty of space for all these on bottom board then you can place a single switch to control all of them.

For this modification some wiring should be done. It will cost few hundreds.

Ok I’ll just place the speakers close then and hopefully nothing happens. I guess it shouldn’t as lot of them place the soundbar below kissing the panel. @Marakk if possible can you please share some settings options for me to demo 1080p content. I am planning to do a an audition today and book if satisfied

Reset ISF dark mode first. Then set Noise Reduction to auto and MPEG NR and Smooth Gradation to low in picture options. Trumotion at Clear is what I use to get rid I OLED stutter. Super Resolution also to Low in expert controls. Rest should be where they need to be by default. Watch and see how you like it. Then switch color gamut to wide if you want a more vibrant picture. You can also change gamma to 2.2 to see which one you prefer. Default would have put it at BT. 1886 which is the same as 2.4 on OLEDs. This will give you the most accurate settings TV provides. Bump up settings from here according to your preference. Don't mess with Brightness or Contrast without using calibration slides though, but you can raise Color and Sharpness.

Also, check that energy saving is off. It's in the picture menu before you enter picture mode options.

Well no matter what I tried the upscaling is no way near Sony so I got fed up. Played 4K videos and some HDR contents and the c9 was amazing and I had a hard time finding the difference between the A8 and C9. The c9 was brighter but the Sony was slightly soft and smooth. Finally got the offer for both. C9 1.95L and A8 2.27L. Booked c9 65 inches and saved some cash.

Haha! Welcome to the club. Maybe when you won't be comparing side to side, it won't bother you.

Yeah definitely at home it’s going to be a better experience. And more over al good movies are available in 4K so I just went ahead with the c9. It’s more future proof with Hdmi 2.1 and gaming features such as ALL and variable refresh rate is an added bonus

Can some one share links to test the dead pixels and uniformity. I would like to do it after installation with the LG technicians. Dam our warranty policy sucks. Only one year warranty plus one year panel warranty is all I got

Whoops! During Diwali LG had extended 2 year comprehensive warranty (with additional labor charges though). Still, a better insurance to have rather than third party options. Use slides on YouTube. 5% gray for dark grey uniformity and colored slides for dead pixels.

Well 3 years should be standard for a product of this cost and not given only during Diwali. Bajaj Finserv offered additional one year but 16k which I felt was to high. Hope I get a good panel and fault free unit.

Very true, 3 years should be a standard warranty at that price. Even the amps/receivers are generally for 1 year warranty in India as against 3 years in other countries.
Don't know why India gets this treatment.

Consumer protection laws are just so weak here. It's 5 years in UK and Australia too if I recall correctly. We are paying more money for the same product with less guarantees that it'll work as intended for a good amount of time.

Totally agree with you. That is why hanging Nimbu Mirchi in India is so popular to fill the void.:D
As far as I know SVS gives 5 years warranty on the entire product. But generally it's a raw deal in India for the consumers on a lot of products after paying a high price.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
