Sony BDP S190 vs Sony BDP S380

BDT220, as of now not available like many other Pana plasmas.. so went for Sony S490.. The only issue may be region locked for blu-ray.. but that's fine.. anyway most of the regular BD disks are region free, if I am not wrong.. Will update with the device, once received

I have ordered online.. ezoneonline.. the landed cost 8991.. expected to deliver in 7days.. considering that their office is at Mumbai only, shall not be any delay beyond that..

Just saw your Sign.. u have S490 yourself.. how is it? Have you made it region free or it is Region C locked? How's the performance so far?

I like the performance so far. It's good value for money :)

All my Blu Ray Disc are region free, so i don't know whether it's actually locked to Region C.

Do let me know if you figure out a way to unlock it to all regions.

Any branded Bluray Player always region specific...
USA=>Region A Locked (NTSC Only)
UK=>Region B Locked (NTSC/PAL)
Asia=>Region C Locked (NTSC/PAL)
But all BD players support region free BD disc

But DVD region now a days does not have much clarify on region..some players are DVD region free...

Guys Finally I got my BDP S490, the pleasant surprise is that it comes with 2 free 3D Blu ray movies (Tintin and MIB3) and also it mentions about a free 3d Spec, which was missing.. I've already raised a complaint with ezoneonline and they r looking into it..

The first impression is that it is a really good BDP.. the picture quality is awesome even with the my HD ready 5 yr old LCD.. so I can only imagine how good it will be with those top of the line TVs.. hope I will get one soon enough.. ;)

velmurugan .. you are right.. In fact, if I am not mistaken, almost all players in India are DVD region free, but locked to their region for Blu ray (in our case Region C).. anyway, it is already proved by many in this and other forums that all pana BDP can be region free with a third paryy firmware patch, any few others like Toshiba BDX3200 (european model) etc are known to many people that it is the easiest to make region free .. there are few more like Onida one..

I also believed that players sold in India were region locked for BDs but free for DVDs. I tried Sony, Samsung. The guys at showroom were unable to show the DVD playback. So test yourself and verify. :)

Kix.. will do.. Even in case they are locked for DVD as well, it can be hacked to make region free for DVDs using a specific universal remote .. so I am not much bothered..

Okay! Although this may be hard to believe but my Blu Ray went region locked in the middle of playback:annoyed:

One minute it was playing all region DVD and the other minute it started giving the region code error. Now it'll only play region 5.:mad:

Need some help guys to get the region code removed for DVD. :sos:

The hack above mentions a different remote.. anyway, great that it worked... now I know for sure it will work on my player as well.. how much you paid for the remote?

Also let me know whether the old remote is still good in controlling the player or only the new URC remote can only be used?

The old remote is still good. Here's the link to the remote:-
