Sony BDP S380 Officially Anounced.

Price confirmed in Sony India Website - Rs 8990/- ........ Rs 1000/- less than the 370 Player.

In a thread some time ago, I kind of predicted the crashing of Blu-Ray player prices. I think, by December 2011, we can expect Blu-Ray players at around 5K, with DVD players disappearing completely. I do hope Pioneer does not get left behind.

By next year or so, we can expect Blu-Ray players to also disappear, and I feel that media players will take over the market, albeit with some breakable DRM in place.

Cheers

Blu Ray is here to stay but only for people who can appreciate the difference between HD and SD Quality. Due to limitation and high cost of Internet Bandwidth real time streaming and downloading of HD Files is not going to happen very soon especially in a developing Nation like ours.

Apples Steve Jobs is correct but he is ahead of his time.

I agree on the prices going south to around 5K for 3D BR players. Infact, LG BD550 was already selling at that price since several months already :)

However, I can guarantee that BR players will be mainstream atleast till the end of 2013. Most of the Video Enthusiasts still may not be using Internet and other than some BSNL Broadband plans (500/500C/500+C with night unlimited @2mbps), we really don't have cheap high bandwidth internet available.

If I can get BR Player for 5K that can also play DVD and CDs, why would I even bother about a DVD Player?

Internet may not be the only source to get media. In Chennai at least, there are guys who have a huge load of downloaded media that they will give you for peanuts. In any case, my point was a media player that can also play a Blu-Ray attached either as an internal drive or as an externally attached drive. Just imagine a Dune or a PCH with a Blu-Ray drive available for 10K?

I also feel there is going to be a convergence of computing units, media units, and optical units. Just imagine a laptop with a Blu-Ray drive, 500GB of HDD, 1080P screen for 25K? Or a pad with similar features, and an easily available external Blu-Ray drive, all for 25K? You go to office, do your work, come home, plonk the laptop on a dock that is connected to your AV, and you have a full 1080P AV system with internet, media, Blu-Ray, and software that can play anything. The latest version of PowerDVD 11 plays just about any media you can throw at it, and it is only going to improve.

Of course, as you mentioned, this will be useful for a small percentage of people who have good Net connection. At the same time, with the Net taking over communications and IP addresses becoming 64/128 bytes, you can look at an unique IP address for each human being, and the complete disappearance of something called the telephone.

This has already been predicted by SciFi writers such as Philip K. Dick.

i recently purchased LG LV 5500 TV. I tried some pure HD clips and some mkv movies. The quality of audio and video with Pure HD Clips is ossum. But the mkv' which has the video and audio quality a little downgraded disappointed me.

I think it is difficult to download Pure HD Movies ( 20-25 GB), storing it in Hard drive and then playing it etc.

If i guess correctly, the blu ray disc prices should come down further more ( now all good collections are selling between 7 -10 $ ).
If the street average prices comes down to say 5$ i think then the demand for Blu ray Players will go up.

All said and done, instead of modding players i hope some manufactures come up with quality Multizione blu ray player.

I have seen this question being asked a number of times, and frankly, the logic astounds me. A optical player cannot be expected to be a media player, and vice versa. If you want to play all forms of downloaded files, it makes more sense to go for a media player. Optical players that double up as media players - all of them, including the Oppos, have limitations.

Cheers

Most imp reason for my asking was hd audio capacity, as most media player lack it, most u can get is passthrough. If this can play mkvs rasonably we can have better of both the worlds.

I recently bought a Sony Blu Ray Player model NSZ-GT1 in the US. This is a Google TV Box made by SONY. The AC Power Adapter gives an output of 19.5 V and 2.1 A but takes 110 V input at 60 Hz as per the USA standard.

Is there any AC Power Adapter made by SONY in INDIA that I can buy in oder to use this Blu Ray Player in INDIA. Particularly, do AC Power Adapters for Blu Ray players such as BDP S370 work with NSZ-GT1? What is their output? 19V DC at 2.1 A?

Thanks

Just get a 220v to 110v transformer based converter(not transistor or IC based)
The 50hz in india won't be any problem.

Alternately some laptop adaptors should work like some Sony VAIO models.

sony bdp 380 is good choice for buying .player supports dts hd ma.i checked various movies of dts hd ma from seagate 500 gb .i bought from ebay for 6690rs

I guess its not region free. If you have that kind of media, why don't you go for Oneida BDX1110, which is known to have all region capabilities.

Btw, is there any owner here of 380? How does the 2ch output compare with
370?

bluray titles are almost region free in india.two bluray player in our house. myself sony bdp 380 region c and my cousion has panny a210 region a. we checked various titles on two bluray players. sony bdp 380 supports ntfs but no dlna. panny suppots dlna but no ntfs. allready bluray company are making region free discs. 80% bluray disc are region free

@navdeep, how do you find the two BDPs you have for 2 change use? I'm looking for a source. But primarily, I 'd be listening to music, so the DAC of the source and 2ch performence is critical

I just got this player from Adishwar, Bangalore. I'm not sure whether it plays all the regions' DVD, but, it does play DVDs that I brought from USA and India DVDs.

Blu-Ray: I have no idea whether this will play other regions (I don't have other region BR to test).

Video Quality: I'm impressed, it does excellent job of upscaling
Audio quality: I bitstream my audio to AVR, Pioneer SC-37. So, not much to add here.

Important Points: It plays NTFS HDD fellas - it played all files from my 500GB HDD
some MKV files were not recognized, but, most of them worked fine, including subtitle.
MP4 and AVI files are played without any trouble, with multi-channel audio bit streamed.

Rajiv !
