Sony BDP S380 Officially Anounced.

Hhmmm...

you know what? The .mkv files that were/are not recognized are the files I ripped from DVDs (own dvds - I ripped them to save space) using makemkv (MakeMKV - Make MKV from Blu-ray and DVD).

I need to figure out different configuration in makemkv to let S380 to recognize those files.

Other HD .mkv files, that I downloaded using utorrent, are recognized.

More updates on .iso file recognition later, may be, over this weekend.

Rajiv !

Try to remux the non playable mkv files using mkvtoolnix version 3.0

well, I'm not interested in remuxing them. I just briefed the features of 380. I generally play my HDD thru ASUS OPlay Air.

Basically, DivX support is not there anymore on S380, but, xViD. So, if I create the mkv with DivX encoder, S380 does not recognize. But, if XVid encoder, S380 will decode it fine.

I got this info from other review article.

I just got this player S380 today. I just wanted to use this as my media player. What is your recommendation?

Do you want me to use it as media player or dispose this off and buy a media player??

Also does it play all format video files from USB??
Does it recognose 2TB HDD. I have 2 TB external HDD which has downloaded movie content.

Let me know your inputs!!!

hi all,

A little off the topic. I want to play the latest bd's and dvd's but dont want to use optical players. i had a bad experience with my philips dvd player. My question- Is it possible to convert the bd's and dvd's into mkv or another format using a good software and use it with a media player like asus o play mini. I dont have sufficient bandwidth to download dvd or bd content. So might be buying the discs directly. Is this a good idea of converting the discs to digital media and then use it. Are there good formats which doesnt compress and lose detailing. Pardon my ignorance. I havent used much compression softwares lately.

Thanks in advance
Antony

Hi

Just refer to the sam9's signature. He has given a step by step guide on how to backup your BD's in mkv or other formats. I think you can use the software makemkv and backup the content.

Thanks.

I dont understand why do u need to convert BDs to mkvs? whatever people it is a compressed format...For me i love a 50 GB BD, I use my BD player only to play BDs...never ever got inclined towards this mkv stuff...

Most people download MKV files as BD rips from Internet. They are good in quality but not as good as original BDs but they are free !!

Most 720p rips are in size of 4 to 6 GB and 1080p rips are 10 to 15 GB.The quality is never at par with original Blu Ray but they are way better then original DVDs.

other day, i read it didnt support DLNA streaming from pc/laptop wirelessly...is it ?

and its true that it may not support every file format u throw ?

1080p mkv rips are AWESOME!!! the only downside.............you keep needing more space all the time :(

guys,

please do not post BD rip related comments on this, as per general forum rules.

My wedding coverage is on BD.... is it condemned to speak about BD rips of that... ;). Why do you act like a mod. slave .... are you one ??? Or may b you commented with an clouded consciousness ... ;)

I don't think talking about BD Rips is against forum rules. If that is the case, then even discussions on FLAC , mp3 all should be banned. One can rip his bd collection for safe storage and use. Infact there is even a nice guide on BD ripping written by sam9s. But posting torrent links, illegal download links, using the forum as a means to share data etc. are clearly a violation of forum rules.

Sorry if I over reacted.

And my statement was certainly not on ur wedding :o

But in general, its a major issue for the very AV industry which we love so much (and live for). Therefore principaly I am against using pirated/downloaded stuff even if it means I might have to shell out extra bucks at times.

Having said that, you will have my full support when we talk about the ridiculous prices of BD disks especially in India.

Hope you understand.
