Hi all,

I want to buy an Sony home theatre bluray BDV-E690 3D, feedback's are mostly welcome, want to thank you all in advance.. :)

Please consider Denon,Onkyo,Yamaha for HT setup..you will get HT packages in that similar price.

never buy sony/lg/samsung type HT system..many issues you will face..read detail..
like no hdmi inputs...i shd say thats a complete waste of money...
there are onkyo 3400/3500,denon 1312xp HT/yamaha equivalent which are actual home therater systems...
within 24k to 33k.....

get a separate sony blu ray player for blu ray play purpose...like 490,190 etc....

if you have very tight budget..get onkyo 3400 HT at 23k.....and a sony 190 player at 6k...or 490 at 8k....

The only good thing or feature about 'Sony BDV-E690' is that it has a built-in BDP. Otherwise it is a waste of money. When I say "waste of money" I am weighing my words carefully. As mentioned above, it does not allow scope for expansion/growth. It is good as long as you just want to pop-in BD or DVD into the player and enjoy cinema with surround sound. Sound quality wise, it is average to decent, nothing exceptional. But the problem comes in the "growth/expansion" part.

It is rare that you will not want to connect external devices to an HT system. For instance, the most common requirement is, you will want to connect your HD STB to the HTiB and enjoy full surround sound while watching HD movies on HD channels. This Sony system does not have HDMI or Coaxial/Optical inputs - so you cannot connect. Or you may want to connect your ipod to the system to listen to music - again out of luck. It could be that you have a DAC that you wish to connect - twang - wrong answer. Not having any external inputs is a great limiting factor. This forum has many queries on "I wish to connect my STB to my ______ HTIB" (fill Sony, Samsung, LG, panasonic, Philips, etc. in the blank), and then everyone tell them, "Sorry boss, you are out of luck". As lake1988, suggested go for a proper HTIB such as Onkyo 3500 or Denon 1312xp or Yamaha YHT 298, etc. - basically an HTIB with a proper AVR. You will feel much happier later. Price will be around 28-30K. The only thing that you will not get is a BD player. But in any case, the BDP with the above Sony HTiB is region locked for BDs (not sure about DVDs).

Hi Manoj, is that 'Sony BDV-E690 3D Blu-ray Home Theatre', that's really nice and has great specifications. In-short i can say you its worth buying. you will enjoy the 4 Tall Boy speakers with one woofer. Sony BDV-E690 Blu-ray Home Theatre| High End Home Theater System may this link will help you more. :)

Sorry to quote you again. The above HTIB does not have any hdmi inputs, you can not connect your old instruments player to this HTIB. You can not connect your STB moreso. No supporting for HD audio formats. No scope for expansion. You can not hook up your gaming console in future.

In contrary if you take a look at AVR based HTIBs, you name the gadget which can not be hooked to it. Start it from your grandmother's VCR to today's Blu Ray players...on the other way, hook up any of your audio player from casette to CDs..So here's the way to go.

Coming to sound...their wattage is overrated..I am myself using Sony HTIB but when I got a dedicated AVR and hooked my same Sony HTIB speakers everyone in my family was quick to notice the difference. The sound stage was big and bold...every instrument being played in the song can be clearly heard and not to forget that this is heard with Sony HTIB speakers, so with speakers brands like wharfedale, polk, Boston acoustics, it'll blow me away.
Moreover whenever I increased the volume in my old HTIB, beyond certain limits it starting cracking. Now I am not experiencing the same problem with my AVR.

The MRP of Sony BDV-E690 Blu-ray Home Theatre| High End Home Theater System is mentioned as Rs.26,990/- it might be available at around 24K. In the same budget Onkyo3400 or for lesser budget at 20K go for Yamaha198 and spend rest of the amount on BDP/Media player and be happy for at least 6-8 years.

In my case, within 3 years of purchasing Sony HTIB, I was looking for upgrade...one would face this issue with AVR based HTIB but not so soon.
