Sony Bravia KDL W700B - Buyers Thread

Thanks Hitchhawk! Will try out the settings.

Got the TV yesterday. Thanks to this forum I checked out the usage hours. It was 00000-00008-00000. So guess I have got a new piece after all!

Man, life changes with an LCD. Amazing picture clarity!

The only hiccup I see is that once I connect usb and external drive, all the files are either not shown or sometimes the drive itself is not recognized. Anyone else have this experience?

My Review of the SonyW700B :

- Purchase : I had done quite a detailed review online as well as at the store and this forum and its members were a huge help in my decision making. I carried a pen drive with me to the stores and ran different formats (mkv/avi etc ) and was satisfied with the results. I also played with the Sony TV settings so as to understand the variations in auto mode of the picture.
I finally purchased my TV from Sony world here in Viman Nagar,Pune at 62,000 / - . I realised the best bargain you get is only when you actually will buy the TV, earlier they kept saying that best price is 64,900 and they will not go lower, i actually believed them. But on the day of the purchase - 28th March 2014 when I indicated I want to buy it right away, they lowered the price. The fact that Reliance Digital / Jumbo at a mall close by as well a local dealer (Maharashtra Electronics ) was close by helped me cause as I claimed I could just walk away and buy the TV at any of these stores.

Delivery and Installation : I actually emotionally blackmailed the sales guy into committing that he would ensure that the piece was delivered immediately and that installation was done next day itself.

Bought the TV at Sony world at 8 Pm on 28th March
Delivered to my place at 8:30 Pm on 28th March (I stay 2 kms away)
Installation and demo done by 29th March 6 Pm

Overall I was very satisfied since the sales person stuck to his commitment and I also ofcourse chased the sales guy / demo guy to ensure installation was completed by 29th March as I wanted to watch Football on the weekend !! :)

TV feedback : I would like to note that I earlier had a 26 inch LG LCD

1. Setup of wifi was a breeze and extremely easy
2. The overall response of the internet apps seemed to be slow but I realised I will only either ways be using only youtube and that too rarely
3. The sound out of the home theatre system seemed to also be much improved (is it my imagination or can a upgrade change in TV actually improve sound too)
4. I have tata sky HD connection and I must say that the TV viewing now is much more pleasurable . Movies/ sports in hd look fantastic and even the general channels look good.
5. The best part,I viewed the Transformers (dark side of the moon ) , 300 , Rush via the pen drive { All blu ray rips) and the movie viewing experience was fantastic
6. I then played the Dark Knight Rises through my Play Station 3 and this was the icing on the cake. My in laws / wife had their jaws open and I stood there beaming with my purchasing decision
7. I played GTAV as well through my PS3 and even though I have played and completed the game earlier I guess seeing how beautiful it looks on the new tv, I am surely going to play it all over again.
8. The TV does act a little slow while reading the files on the pen drive but I have decided to watch most formats through the ps3 and if a file doesnt work on the ps3 , I will play it directly from the TV. (Ps3 doesnt support some random formats like mkv etc )
9. The TV design is awesome since it has very thin Bezels (margins at the sides ) making it sleek .

I am extremely happy with my decision and I vouch for this TV.

NOTE : I persuaded my dad who is Bombay to purchase the same tv as he too wanted to change his tv and he went ahead and bought it next day itself on 29 march from Jumbo electronics in Inorbit mall , Vashi and it was delivered and installed by 30th March 7 PM

I've modified that a little bit. Made the following changes

Backlight: 4
Contrast: 90
Resolution: Min

Congrats @rmbornfree, @k_vijay12, @anurag.bajoria, @kiranchavala, @iamjason, @zanyguy and @abhimanyuk on your purchases :clapping:

So far we've 8 users who purchased this TV. :ohyeah:

Here are few things I noticed in this TV

Once the backlight value is dialed down to 4 or 3 the blacks are really deep (like when the tv is switched off) in a low light condition.

Even though the colors looked a little bit over saturated (not like samsung) in default settings, it's normal when the color value is decreased to 48 from 50.

Warm 2 is too warm and I found Warm 1 better for TV, Sports and Movies.

Reading from external hard disk or USB drive is really slow.

It's really annoying that there is no option for folder wise display when an external hard disk or usb drive is plugged. Broad classification (Video, Music, Picture) doesn't help much.

There's mild backlight bleed under a pitch black condition. But it's not like few areas are bright and others are dark. Screen uniformity is good.

Both the pics are taken using my mobile phone in night mode. May be that's why the difference in color.

I'll take a pic of the screen under pitch black condition and share it later.

Been away from the forum for two weeks due to work pressures, and I see eight people have bought this TV already!!!
I have been using the TV for three weeks now and my overall experience and feeling so far is nothing short of awesome.
Most of my usage has so far been gaming and games like TLoU, Uncharted and Dead Space 2 look fantastic on this TV. Also watched movies like Dark Knight, Inception and The Prestige blurays from my PS3, and everything felt like a new movie to me, because of the PQ.
I would reiterate, to the average person looking to upgrade to a 42 LED, this is presently one of the best models available, and prices will also be getting lower so it becomes more VFM.

I am thinking of calibrating my TV with the AVCHD disc available on AVS Forum. Any feedback from anyone who has tried this?
Also what's the size of the download?

Different packages are available. Content is more in few and less in others. They have clearly mentioned what all are included in each of them. Go through the AVS forum post and download the one that you need. The mp4 one is 21.6 MB in size. You can decompress the downloaded file and use it with out burning it to a DVD. Before proceeding with the calibration go through the manual.

Read somewhere that you need blue filters for color correction.

Hi,
I am considering this Sony 42w700b as well. But I saw this model at my relatives house and I am getting 2nd thoughts. The display was UI response for "Smart" functionality was very sluggish.
I saw on sony website that the firmware update is available for this TV. Not sure if it will improve the responsiveness.

Can other owner's comment about their experience?

Here is the firmware update link FYI System Software Update (Version PKG2.112GAA) For Asia Pacific : Download : Sony India

Guys I used the AVCHD tool, and the results, even for such an amateur calibration, are stunning. Will post pics by evening.
Would suggest everyone try it out.

The first week experience has been really good, no small part due to the fact that earlier I was using a 22 inch LCD.

The obvious pros have been richness in color and clarity in HD. Background detail looks stunning and blacks are well, glossy black. When seen as a TV first and foremost, Bravia 700B ticks all the boxes. Wifi is just a plus and nothing more. Youtube when used with pairing facility is awesome.

Shortcomings are the SD channels are more listless to watch (especially sports ones), the remote control is ultra sensitive , Wifi extremely hard to use for general browsing and apps are bland. USB video play via flash drive is very selective and slow. MP3 play and photo browsing was much better.

Overall, with what little or more I could experience in a week, I would rate this TV 8/10.

Also, I am in the market for a PS3 500GB ... request forum members to share experiences and about good places to look for (online/Bangalore) ...

Settings after calibration

Every other setting off.
Sharpness might seem a little higher to some people , but this is what I like.

According to reviews Sony w700b has a very light green tint, especially in the bright parts of the picture. This problem can be easily corrected. You also notice some green tint in white, then go to the advanced picture settings, select "White Balance" and let 'G-gain' two or three points lower.

I've few doubts on the optical audio output.

1. Is the TV capable of giving 5.1 output via optical audio out or it will down mix 5.1 to 2.1 and then give the output?

2. Is it possible to connect 5.1 computer speakers to this TV?

Screen mirroring works fantastic, and Angry Birds and Asphalt looked stunning on a 42 screen. Be warned though, the TV couldnt , and as of writing this, has still not been able to detect my iPhone network (guess everything is an issue with Apple).

Guys I am a newbie here.. Wonderful site and wonderful guys around..
I am planning to buy this piece this month. I am having a Nokia Lumia phone with Windows 8. Any body has an idea on any issues in connecting this TV with a windows 8 device?

While going through SONY's India website...came through this page...and it sort of gave me strange feeling...that while for X-Reality Pro and Bass Reflex Speakers...600B is mentioned and not 700B. I could have understood if the page is not updated with new model of 700B, but in that case, even 600B should not have been there...
