Hi
I have been offerred SONY EX 520 40" at 62000/- Girias Hubli. The salesman told me that sony has started shipping it. If I book today he can deliver by one week. The sony website doesn't mention details of its USB playing abilities. My most important requirement is that it should be able to recognize my WD 1 TB external HDD( external power NTFS). Can anyone give me vauable information on this. Thanks.

Yeah it doesn't have motion flow. But while searching the net, it seems that USB HDD recording facility is available. Also it can support up to 2 TB of HDD. This is more than sufficient a reason to go for this. What do you guys think? You can google 2011 line uo and see. If you want I can post the link here also.

Thanks adder for the link. But how can we be certain that all those features are available in India also? I have just talked to sony customer care and I asked him specifically these questions
1. What is the maximum size of USB whichit can support?
2. What are the formats it can play
3. Whether USB recording is available?
He noted down these and took 5 minutes for getting all the answers
1. Sony USB disk 16 GB and others 8 GB( maximum tested by sonyindia). I found it strange
2. It can play mpeg-4 and avi/divx. Not sure about avhd or mkv.
3. USB recording is not available.
Then I asked him whether recording be available after a firm ware upgrade. He again enquired and told that it was not possible since Indian models are designed seperately.
If true then I should buy SAMSUNG just as a token protest.

Well it could be that the indian version as a different firmware, but the only way to know for sure is to check the actual tv.
Since sales person won't really no much.

The foreign version will however be available in grey market.

Hi ! I got Sony EX0520 last week and want to clarify few things..
1. What is the maximum size of USB whichit can support? - Tested upto 1 TB. It has got two USB ports and you may connect two HDD.
2. What are the formats it can play - Most of the common formats like .avi, MPEG2/4, DIVx.. Does not play flv etc
3. Whether USB recording is available? - Didn't find any such option .. tried searching

Have not tested the internet browsing feature yet..

Congrats GPS on purchase. How's the performance of TV during sports. Especially ICC world cup? I saw EX600 and it has serious motion blur issues. The trainling of images is easily noticable in normal cable TV itself. How's X-reality engine coping up with this issue? Thanks

Someone mentioned that the EX520 has a 60Hz refresh rate,( cannot find that thread )- any idea on the actual reaction time - for both the 40 and 46" sets ?

Well if you mean the response time a typical SPVA has around 8ms of response time to my knowledge.
Don't know what panel the EX520 has but if its a UV2A its even lesser.

But if you mean the input lag its about 30ms for a BE3 based tv.The input lag of the new tvs with x reality processing is unknown.

Thanks adder. The claims of LG and the like of 2.4 ms reaction time for their LE4600 and less for their higher sets would be just bull then ? What is your take on the refresh rates for the new SONY EX 520, would the 60HZ mentioned be correct ?

You should write "response" time and not reaction time. Yes it is 50/60Hz and doesn't seem to have motionplus like I have in my Samsung 60Hz TV (most of the current 60Hz TVs do not have this feature - similar to 100/200/400 Hz motionplus).

It depends on what way the LG measures its and most lcds have overdrive circuit response time compensation.

The new generation lcd tech like the UV2A and the upcoming samsung Blue phase has the least amount of response time.Since it use photo alignment tech.

see the video below.Once you skip to 30 sec ,you can see the UV2A(on the left) response time from black to white vs conventional lcd tech .

However both 2011 SPVA and AMVA tech have new generation panels that are advertised with 200hz refresh rate.

Uv2A tech is used in sharp lcds and some Sony lcds in their joint partnership with sharp.Sony also uses SPVA tech with their joint partnership with samsung called S-lcd corporation.

Yes the EX520 has a 60hz panel.

Thanks Herculeorama, Prankey.

Well some companies refer to it as reaction time - that term kind of stuck in my head.

Judging from the Pricing of the Ex 520 - vis-a- Vis the USA, I think the 720 will weigh in around 1.20 ?!

hi, guys i am willing to buy sony ex520 series 40" or 46"
please kindly suggest me is it good to buy sony
my viewing distance is not more than 10' which is better 40 or 46

@gps - please tell me about your experience & specially about x-reality
is motin flow is missing

Salesperson asked me regarding my decision to buy this TV. When asked about the motion blur issue he gave me this statement. "Due to X-rality engine and 60 Hz refreshing, the images during fast action will be similar to or better that EX-710 which has 100 Hz motion technology". Has any one of our forum seen this TV? I ma yet to see one in show rooms. Thanks in advance
