Sony ex-520 40" available

Today I had a detailed demo of EX520. I compared it with LG 42LE5500,EX-400,samsung c5000, LD460, Philips(don't rem number) and LG 4600.
1. Overall picture quality was same in LCD and LED. Sony Ex-400 producing the same image as that of EX-520. Samsung LCD/LD were also the same. LG LCD picture quality was not upto the mark. The overall sharpness was less.
2. LG LED was good and bright. It had the best viewing angle of all. Philips LCD was lacking in sharpness
3. Not at all impressed by EX520. Could not find any improvement based on X-reality. Shadowing(trailing of the cricket ball) was visible on closer inspection. The picture lost brightness once you are at an angle. Played "This is it" on blu-ray. You can see judder.
4. On comparison of LG5500 and EX520 side by side with the same signals, LG was the winner. It's motion technology clearly eliminates the judder seen on blu-ray. viewing off centre was much better. When I say off-center I don't mean that I go to the side of the TV and watch it from there,I would say 30-40 deg from centre line.
5. I should go ahead and buy LG? Huge mental block regarding LG. Then I found one TV which was equal in performance to LG5500 and 10000/- less. EX500!
Hoenstly could not see a 5% difference in picture quality from LCD to LED. Checked blu-ray, demo clips, and standard cable. No difference at all. Even some times EX 520 was less bright compared to EX-500 with equal back light setting.
This is my observation

I saw lcd 500 & led 520 side by side in show room.
definitely there is good difference in the black levels. dark movies are really dark. picture quality is same but colours are more vivid in led.
the judders must be same in 500 & 520. am i correct? but i cannot see any judder in the demo which had more action.
i could not see trails of cricket ball in led or lcd. may be my eye sight is not fast to notice.?
i saw LG. but somehow i cannot compare the superier picture quality of sony with LG.
I am likely to buy ex520 in a week or 10 days.

Hi GPS,

I am also interested to know about motion blur while watching sports (Cricket/Tennis specially). I almost finalized this but then came to know it does not have motion flow. In some postings few people say X-Reality takes care of that. Not sure if its true. Also I read somewhere it creates good video output from not so good input like Downloaded movie. Is it true? Also read that SD channel video is reproduced brilliantly by X-Reality. Please share your experience.

The X-reality is the image processor, where as the motionflow for 2011 models consists of the frame interpolation and backlight scanning which improves motion resolution and reduces judder.

If the source SD is good the X-reality will do a good job upscaling it.

As far as the upscaling from low quality videos thats only advertised for X-reality PRO found only in the HX series.

If the

The Edge LED on these entry level LED TVs will not make any difference in picture quality.
Unless you go for the full dynamic LED backlight, like in LG 46". They are good.

I bought myself CX520 (LCD) only couple of weeks back. The picture quality is awesome. No motion blur to my eyes. I am enjoying my blu-rays :-)

Love the picture quality of my 32cx520 very happy with it...just havin on issue ... when my 500 gb external hdd is connected to it then after 1-2 hrs it starts showing me message that an external usb drive is connected then after 2mins of interval again the same message although the drive works flawlessly on tv.

Are u too having similar issues ???...

I bought a EX520 and got installed yesterday. The picture quality is very good. I have a Big TV SD connection. I dont have any HD channels. Most of the channels like HBO, TLC, Discovery, Star Movies etc are very good. I dont know whether this is due to Big tv picture quality.

You can't judge picture quality by watching SD channels in showrooms. They will have only one dish connection from which it will be connected to multiple televisions. Thts the way all the showrooms work including Ezone from where i bought mine.
I am not sure abt the refresh rates. Watching football in ESPN didnt gave me any issues. Also watching cricket was fine.

i planed to buy sony 46ex520 its a 46inch tv so i need your help and your expeirnce with ex520..what is the screen size your ex520? ....since it has screen refresh rate 60hz, i want to make sure when you watch any sports channels in Dish tv in dvd quality(not the HD channels) do you notice any motion blur or screen tearing experience bcos the screen size is big so i afraid there might be any noticeable motion blur..and how is the overall picture quality when you play from low quality video sources such as as i said dish tv normal channels, dvd movies, youtube videos in full screen...how is the picture quality?..pls help me out

Hi,

My question is the same as some of the other posters here.
I am almost set on buying the EX520 40" TV. My only concern
is the 60 Hz refresh rate.

I watch a lot of football and wanted to know if the 60Hz refresh
rate will be enough to watch such fast moving action or should
I go for another TV which has a higher refresh rate?

I am also considering Panasonic L42E30. Thanks!
