Sony EX720-3D TV

The Sony Center in my town has not yet got the 32EX720 model. Meanwhile, there is a friend in Singapore who is likely to visit India in the coming month. The Sony site of Singapore quotes the price which is equivalent to Rs. 48765/-. Should I ask him to get one for me? What about duty implications? I hear that one doesn't have to pay duty and that lots of people are bringing TV's from Singapore, Middle East etc. Or should I wait and get it from here?

Feedback from Friends who have brought LCD from Dubai recently during the DSF is that custom guys allow 32" and do not charge duty as you can carry items upto 25K without paying any duty.

i visited a sony world showroom this weekend and they gave me demo on the internet features... etc..

during the demo, the sony guy said, i cant play a file more than 2gb in size....

he also said , i cant connect an ext hdd to the ex720 ...... and the max capacity of pen drive was 32gb,,,

well, the previous info i had from other sources, said, 2-3 TB ext hdd could be connect and a large file could play too..

if some one has a ex720, can this be checked and confirmed ..

1. max usb pen drive capacity
2. max ext hdd capacity
3. max video file play capacity
4. can we play a HD print over pen drive / hdd .. ( since HD movie will be definately more than 2gb)

thanks,
nu

Hey just a suggestion, if you like the picture quality and all the features of the TV, why not invest in a media player (5k+) and play all the formats and sizes.

Hi,

I was also of the same opinion, if you have done this already, could you provide some pointers on how best it works and which media player to buy...

my main purpose is to pick movies from my desktop ( where it gets downloaded from internet) and to be able to play on the Tv with least hassle ...

may be will need a wireless capable media player ( which i know they are usually)... and conect to the desktop folder over network and pick movies form the folder and play directly.. ( is this possible) ? ( thats what samsung claims is possible with allshare s/w )

............ Else ...

i guess the soltn is to xfer movies each time from desktop / laptop to the media player using some ext hdd or usb drive and play on tv ( which will play all formats and capacities) .. any bets on best available media player today..?

will i be able to play a 3D movie too ( can a 3D movie be views over media player / hdd / drive ..?

could you / others too verify this for me plz ...

cheers,
nu

I use Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD Media Player. Plays all formats. Has a slot for HDMi cable but haven't tried it since I am still with my CRT and waiting to get the EX720. The Player doesn't have a built-in HDD but has a slot for their FreeAgent Go drive. I use a pen drive to copy and view the movies.

I have purchased the TV for 75000/- from Hubli, 40 EX 720. Waiting for it to arrive in parcel. Along with it I placed order for AsusO! pla mini in ebay. Let me check the TV performance and will post a review.

I use a desktop with HDMI out mono directly connected to TV
but I have the wd TV live media player too which has an Ethernet port. If all are on network you can access files on desktop from media player. Wireless video transfer is also possible but very slow

not sure whats so good about this TV ? samsung C7000 seems to be better buy with much better internet @ TV functions and "content" consolidated under 1 button... look wise as well samsung looks more sleek with touch senstive buttons that lights up when u touch right corner of screen... price wise i guess they are almost the same or samsung might be tad more expensive... i suggest wait for samsung D series which is possibly one of the best looking TV till date with ofcourse great panel and features.

On the other hand i agree with earlier post watching 3D is not something one can enjoy for long time its good for occasional fun thought, glasses cost from 4K to 15K depending on what u want - battery powered or rechargable with better looking frame :)

^ for me C7000 was absolutely unbearable, however I can agree on C750 which did not have many of the flaws of C7000 at about Rs.40k less the price.

when i checked sony india website about warranty of their bravia range and the ex720 they gives 1 year warranty without the option of extended warranty, after 1 yr when something happens to the tv we have to pay ?

Yes,Thats why buying in the grey market makes sense.

But i believe croma offers extended warranty. But no idea about the terms and conditions.

ok thanks adder but croma don't give discounts as much as the local dealers and what is the case of samsung tvs i think they have the option of extended warranty

I completely agree on warranty terms. ALL LCD TVs should carry 3 years warranty as 99.9% of them will not have any issue (other than true manufacturing defects) during the 1st year.

Croma does not offer any discount other than the DP so its not a great place to buy TVs.

Got my 40"EX720 on the 5th. Clarity is amazing. Have not yet tried the 3D though. Browsing the net is fun as well. Not sure how to use skype on this though. Any answers?
