Re: Update on 3D

Hi friends
I have been away from the forum for sometime. I am back now with an update. I did not purchase 3D glass along with the tv as it was costing 6500/- at that time. Now I have the new 3d glass from sony. It is BR-250 and is chargeable from the USB slot from the TV
Pros
1. It is costing 3500/- now(even the older model also)
2. Charging is easy. Cable is supplied
3. Works with your specs also.
Cons
1. A bit bulky. Causes some strain to the eyes initially. But I think i got used to it.
Now on to 3D
1. 3D effect is very good. Till now I have seen anaglyph 3D on my tv with red/blue glasses. and it was not that good. With this glasses pictures come out of the screen like in the movies.
2. Picture quality is good. It depends on the material though.
3. My media player Asus O! play mini plays the 3D files. Initially it shows as side by side (SBS) picture. When you enable the 3D in the TV, and switch on the glasses, you get the 3D picture.
4. Lot of SBS 3D content is available on the net. The LG demo is good for starters. The bit showing IMAX 3D DEEP SEA is excellent. You can touch the fish!. I am searching for more.
5. The simulated 3D is not good. I can see some depth but picture looks bad.
6. Some cross talk is there in SBS 3D.
I will be glad to clarify any doubts.

hi friends,

I have sony 40w300a lcd tv and now i am planning to buy 40ex720. is it worth the change ?
How much would 3 years old sony 40w300a lcd tv sell for ?

please help me.

bravia 40w300a to 40ex720. is it worth it?

As far as I remember, the W series was one of the higher end sets in that genre. With 2-3 days left for the diwali offer, you need to think fast - the best time to buy a Sony is during Diwali :)

Decide what in the EX720 will you get that you are missing in the W series box, and then it should provide you with answers to make a decision.
Eg. Smart features (Internet), 3D, thinner panel (LED edge lit), Newer video processor engine ...

The W300A has superior build quality and perhaps better sound quality.Thats probably the only advantages over the EX720.

The EX720 has much higher contrast around 4x more with very deep blacks,(W300A black levels are equivalent to current LG lcds or even slightly inferior), better viewing angles and much better image processing upscaling/deinterlacing and motion resolution.
But even then unless you buy a bigger size tv it won't really feel like a upgrade.

Best time to buy a Sony officially in showroom is during January or feb during the clearance sale, but not sure thats a good decision this year since the floods in thailand has submerged their distribution and manufacturing plants.

I just took the delivery of EX720 46". As part of the Diwali Offer got 2 3D glasses, one 7" Sony Digital Photo Frame and 2 months free subscription to Airtel HD. The LED is awesome! Shall post details shortly! BTW what is the Blu Ray player that is most recommended?

Buy the LG Blue ray player....it plays MKV...MKV format will be useful for u to watch SBS 3d movies downloaded from interent....its a must format which SONT tvs cant play....its sad....

Well if you are going to buy a Blu ray player while a Sony player PQ is quite good,it still has some kind of restrictions when it comes to playing files via USB for eg the new 2011 blu ray player doesn't play Divx HD but plays formats such as MKV.But your 2011 bravia does however play Divx HD.

For a change you can also go for the samsung D5500 player it plays all formats and also has the samsung smart tv features .

I suggest buying from authorized dealer since Sony is now offering +2 years warranty on its TV :clapping:

40k is nothing for the piece of mind for additional 2 years!

But the extra 2 year optional warranty costs 7.5k.

40k is a big amount,if i were him i would buy it in the grey market.

Do note that large size screen prices will fall significantly every year.

@user1524
Just make sure you get a good stabilizer ,like the V-guard Crystal .

What if the panel conks off in those 2 years, the amount needed to repair would be 10 times the warranty cost for large screen tv. Spike may be one of the factor but there are other unknowns that may crop up without notice!

Its like weighing a short term n long term gain and best for people who can predict the TV performance for next 3 years! I am not one of them :)

Will anyone buy car/bike without extended warranty? I dont think so.. so why skip on a TV which cost close to a 1.5 lakh or half the cost of hatchback car!

I read a menton of stabilizer.... I bought a 46" (Sony KDL-EX720) and was told it does not require a Stabilizer by Sony guy. Mine is on UPS, do I still need one?

You forget that you are spending 40k more+additional 7k for the warranty.
1 to 2 years time you can mostly get a new 55" lcd-led tv with better PQ for around 70k.

Yes there is a possibility that it could conk off within those years, but the person going in for a grey market lcd or getting one from abroad is well aware of the risk of no warranty.

You have no idea about how many people buy daily from grey market .

I have bought cars and bikes without the extended warranty and there is a thread i Tbhp just for that.If you go in for a extended warranty ,you will be forced to service at their specified short intervals, putting after market stuff would mostly avoid warranty.

If your UPS has built in AVR function then it not that necessary ,if not a must.
If you have a inverter or a offline UPS chances are it lacks the avr function.

That makes me think to start a thread on what is the buying pattern of people for electronics. I dont feel the number would be high at all for ppl who buy from grey market.
