Hello Guys!

I'm looking to buy a TV for mostly to watch movies and to play games with my Kids (3 & 4 years old). Budget is around Rs 1 Lac

Got confused which one to go for SONY W900A or W800A or SAMSUNG Series 7. (40-42 inch)

- Samsung pro are Voice and motion sensing.
- With Evolution Kit, you can upgrade your TV for next 4-5 years.
- Cons are they are made in China, Within a year or 2 show some problem.

- SONY W900A pro are Crisp picture quality
- Cost lesser than Samsung Series 7.
- CONS are does not support every format like mkv, etc, Don't have the features that you have in Samsung.

- Sony W800A is Passive 3D & Sony W900A is Active 3D
Which one is better, Passive or Active 3d?

Which one to go for
Any suggestion is really appreciated.

Thanks

go for the sony w900....ideal for watching movies and playing games and much better black levels than sony w800....but experts feel that passive 3d is easy on the eyes than active 3d....and one more thing sony w900 has got very limited viewing angle ....so if you don't sit straight in front of the tv,colours and contrast would change....sony w900 has got fantastic reviews...and praised by the experts for its outstanding picture rendition.....take a demo and decide for yourself....

Thanks Zouresh,
However, SONY guy inform that Sony W900 Viewing Angle (Left/Right/Down/Up) is 178 degree. If you put TV as high as 8-10 ft you don't loose the 3D or colour or contrast, but need to take a demo in this regards.

no 8ft or 10 ft plz...it will strain your neck a lot...bottom of the tv must be around 95-100Cm from the ground..i have put my tv at 105cm and ppl say it is slightly high..

That is technical. It only tells that at 178 degree offset you will able to view the picture. It wont tell how much contrast or color you will loose. Btw, this is not specific to Sony. Every LCD TV has this issue. Sony W9 series use VA panel which has better contrast but poor viewing angle. Sony W8 series has IPS panel with better view angle but poor contrast.

There is no comparison between W8 and W9. W9 has much superior panel and has local dimming. Also, Sony now supports all formats including mkv.

Don't make decision on voice or motion control. Its just novelty and would fade in couple of days. TV should be purchased on how good the Picture Quality it can produced with variety of sources. Take your own collection for demo, preferably blu ray.

It will detect any external harddisk .I checked and watched movies through harddisk also. Most of the fileformats are supported in w900a. for xvid and divx i'm not so sure.

Hello Frnds,

I demo Sony Led 42' W800A & 40' W900A, Black Level are fantastic for both on BluRays, Didn't see much difference on SD channel, both look almost same. Triluminos sample video look awsome on W900A, but i'm not gone going to watch that. However, the sales guy forcing to go for W800A as it save around 10K + getting 4 3d Specs. He is also saying if you gona put your television W900A opposite the window it will reflect a lot, cos the panel look like a mirror.

As per my demo with W900A & W800A, i don't see much difference in contrast, viewing angle. It look the same.

Still confused which one to go for, as this would be our first TV after a gap of 12-15 years. As we don't have a TV set at all in my home. 10K is not much difference but i want to purchase the best.....

Any suggestion......

both are excellent tvs.....if you are not obessed with black levels you can very well go for w800a itself.....it is bigger than w900a and viewing angle is good ....it has got excellent picture .....and passive 3D is easy on the eyes than the active 3D on the w900a....you can also save money and buy a 3d bluray player with the savings....

Don't listen to Sales Person, most of them have very little technical experience. Purchase W900 as it has better hardware and panel.

TV's in shop is set on DEMO mode which is unnatural. Try to have a demo with eco sensor off and in cinema-1 setting. Which blu ray movies were used for the demo as that can make a huge difference.

Here are some reviews for W800 and W900

Not obessed with black levels but want the best PQ. You are right if i go for W800A it is bigger than w900a and viewing angle is good, however i don't want to compromise with PQ in general.
What Say?
I'll go thorough the reveiws...

reviews may be better for w900a because of the black levels....w800a is a good choice for its excellent picture rendition in both SD and HD just like the w900a...however experts feel that viewing angle is very poor on w900a.... so the choice is yours....

w800 is a gud tv .but its pictures are dull comparing to w900.If you think of budget shortage one can go for w800 otherwise go for w9 series it is the best led tv now available. No 2013 led tv can stand infront of this tv. Best pq ,uncompromisable clarity .if opposite windows, you can have dark curtains on the windows.Don't compromise amazing pq for these silly reasons.Go by your eyes ,find which one is better to you.If it is of same pq then sony's are not stupid to keep 10k diff in total cost for a lesser size panel.I'm watching by sitting side angle of the tv i dont see any problems in pq.

Agree with what subbubusk has said above.
Plus, the viewing angle is not that bad as it sounds from the reviews.

How about the Active 3d in W900A, as per the reveiws, we get the HD 3d quality but it strain a lot on eyes, but on other hand W800A is Passive 3d, we don't get HD quality 3d but doesn't strain a lot on eyes. Is it correct?
Any Idea....

Regarding active and passive 3D, you need to test it yourself. It is very easy as any showroom you go you will find TVs with both active and passive offering. For me and many others I know, they were very happy with passive 3D (low cost, no headaches afterwards, no charging, light etc). However it could be a personal choice. Also important is the question "How much of a requirement is 3D to you". For me it was very important. I wanted my kid to enjoy a huge collection of 3D movies. So I am finalizing W800A.

I think that is an incorrect choice. W9 is way superior to W800. In case of Passive 3D, resolution is half. Full active will show full HD 3D.

While I value your opinion there are a few things that we need to consider.
  1. I am getting a 55 inches TV. The MRP difference between 800A and 950A is 70,000 (a lot of money).
  2. I tested Active 3D and I am not happy with it. May be it is only me, but I was so happy with Passive 3D. Now is 3D so important as to overlook 2D picture quality. That is a personal question.

For me, 3D is also important and I was ok to get a slightly inferior 2D for 70k less. How about 'Mod'. That is up to him. But he needs to test them in person.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
