I was in the same dilema as you but in the end, went for the 47"W800a. Let me tell you, it is one awsome set.
Just tweak the picture settings a bit and you are good to go.
Am totally in love with it :)
It is a VFM set.

Also regarding the passive 3D, I did not notice any loss of quality that people claim is prevalant with passive 3D.
It is very comfortable and frees you from the hassle of recharging the glasses, syncing it with the TV etc.

Unless you are an absolute video enthusiast, it will not make a big difference if you choose the W800 over the W900.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Karan

How you paid for it?

Hello Frnds,

I demo Sony Led 42' W800A & 40' W900A, Black Level are fantastic for both on BluRays, Didn't see much difference on SD channel, both look almost same. Triluminos sample video look awsome on W900A, but i'm not gone going to watch that. However, the sales guy forcing to go for W800A as it save around 10K + getting 4 3d Specs. He is also saying if you gona put your television W900A opposite the window it will reflect a lot, cos the panel look like a mirror.

As per my demo with W900A & W800A, i don't see much difference in contrast, viewing angle. It look the same.

Still confused which one to go for, as this would be our first TV after a gap of 12-15 years. As we don't have a TV set at all in my home. 10K is not much difference but i want to purchase the best.....

Any suggestion......

Hey,

recently i bought w900a, it makes me happy, before buying it, am also got confused like you,

why i have choosed W900a is FULLHD in 3d but w800a is not supporting FULL HD in 3d, this is the main difference

Well buddy, if you ask me, Bigger is better :)
It does not matter if it is Full HD or not in 3D.
What you feel while viewing is what matters.
I am quite sure, you will not be able to spot the difference between active 3d and passive 3d. I for one could not.

if you want bigger size , go for 46w950.Don't compromise the pq , if you are not budget constraint. Meanwhile cheetah is better than elephant anyways.

according to tv experts passive 3D is easy on the eyes than the active 3D.....so if you watch 3D often it is better to go for passive 3D.....

Dude honestly, if you are not a video enthusiast and someone who is not very picky, It is better to go for the W800A 47" as the difference is not much unless you watch specific content.

IMO, by the time we start getting content, we will have better screens like OLED at affordable rates. So rather save now ;)

You save 30k, which can be put of other good uses :yahoo: Like good bluray player/sound system/gaming system etc to just name a few :)

Dude its not just comfort of the eye, it is also ease of use.
Let me give you a small example.

I am watching TV, i decide, i just randomly decide to switch to 3D either simulated or Actual 3D content.

With Active 3D, i will first have to ensure that the battery in the glasses is charged, next i will have to sync it with the TV to enjoy 3D.

With Passive 3D, Just put on the glasses and you are good to go. :p

Passive 3D glasses are also cheap. So no worries if one breaks or you need extra. Easy to maintain. Can't say the same bout active 3d glasses ;)

The difference in PQ is not much and is difficult to notice.

All these advantages without taking into consideration the comfort on the eye that comes with passive 3D ;)

It is not. Quality difference is quite significant. Also, what is point in investing in Blu ray if the TV cannot render authentically. Affordable OLED is still 4 years away. So unless budget is a constraint, W950 should be selected.

Another option is to purchase Panasonic 50ST60. Its a plasma with excellent PQ. Also cost is quite reasonable - 1.1 L

Thanks Guy for all your help and valueable comments.
I finally bought Sony 42W800A & i am really happy. I do see the difference between W800 & W900, but that are negligable. I save around 10K in which i ordered a SONY Bluray Player, but awaiting for the same.

Thanks

Good sensible choice made brother :)
Enjoy !!!

Most important difference between w800 and w900 is motion flow which plays big role. It is 400 for w800 and 800 for w900.

I am in the market for a LED or Plasma between 46'' - 51'' and would really appreciate your advice.

For me the single most imp factor is PQ and Black-levels. I am a single guy and ONLY watch movies (BD and DVD) and sports (Football, Cricket - HD) - hence for me PQ is all and Nothing Else Matters :). Also, I will be using the TV in controlled lighting - TV does not switch on during the day unless its the Ashes or Test cricket. No Soaps, no 3D (detest it).

Its a 3 horse race - Samsung (Plasma), Sony (LED) and Panasonic (Plasma).

I demo'ed the Sony 950, 900 and 800 at SONY Dealer. All the TV's were set at the same setting so no manipulation. I asked them to play a BD movie and Sports. My comments:

1. W950 was by far superior is motion and sports. The "pan" and motion were very smooth and natural. W900 also was good - smoother than 800 but not as good as 900; but 800 clearly wasn't close to 950. the 800Hz motion rate of 950 and 900 were clearly superior.

2. Black levels: Again the W950 had stunning black levels; even the 900 blacks looked a lil faded compared to 950.

3. All 3 produced very good colors with the 900 being the best. 950 was the same and even 800 produced great colors.

4. I have yet to demo the Sammy 51F5500 and Panny ST50 but read that they are great TV's. Also wish the 51F8500 would be launced soon.

I am leaning towards a good Plasma given my viewing pref's but was impressed by the new SONY's. Even in a very bright showroom, the Sony LED's were able to produce very good blacks with little reflection.

Can the experts and owners pls share their views and advice?

Thank you all.

ThankYou
It cost me 79,900/- I checked with Croma, Reliance Digital & Sony Authorized showroom the cost are same in all these showroom. The only offer is buy Sony BluRay it cost you around 9,990/- (5 3D BluRay movie titles + 1 3D HDMI cable). The orginial cost is around 19,990, hence you are saving around 10K.
