Hi all,

I have been reading the forums and finally registered today. Most of the people are suggesting Onkyo HT S-3500 to buy but my question is will it be any greater than the following sony packagaes? and what's the current price of Onkyo HT S-3500 in hyderabad. i watch mostly movies and listen to FLAC audio songs.

Sony BDV-E490
Sony BDV-690

Thank you

no comparison with sony........those models dont stand a chance with onk 3400...go eith it blindly....

thanks for the reply mate. Also here in reliance digital they are selling onkyo s3400 model for 27k+philips BD player for 2,500 like a bundle. They are saying there is no HT S3500 model in the market at really?

29.5k for a 3400 and a phillips bd player..hmmmm.whats the phillips bd player MRP...
as for 3400... 23k is a good price...so you judge is 6.5k is justified for the phillips bd player...if justified can go for it.
onk 3400 is by the way a very very good inexpensive performer...dont worry about 3500 and 3400 comparison...and rightly decided not buying sony etc....just a example..you cant even connect a bd player with a sony htib via hdmi....with 3400 its a piece of cake...4 hdmi inputs/1 output......connect whatever you want with onk 3400..

one suggestion are you tight in budget,if not you explore the audio stuffs.separate avr and speakers perform really good but at least 80k budget is needed....otherwise for tight budget onk 3400 is the answer...

in my opinion 29.5 k 3400 plus a bd player is better.....could you bargain if you dont want the bd player what will be the discount??also what bd player model?

sorry i didn't look at the model just checked the price mate.

You can look at the following BDPs which can be made region-free by firmware update:

- Toshiba BDX-3200KB (buy from Amazon.co.uk and use Aramex SnS for shipping)
- Panasonic DMP-BDT220 (buy from infibeam or Panasonic stockists)

i see most of the people are suggesting Denon 1312xp over Onkyo 3500. As there is only a minor increase in price i would go with Denon if it sounds superior than onkyo???

both are good entry level htibs...obviusly its justified to buy any of them if sound sweet...no matter a difference of 5k....actually the thread starter was asking for a comaprison sony and onk htib.......

in fact best is going separate...may be costly but will be solid...
get a 1612 denon 25k..and a pair of 10k bookshelves..buy other speakers later...

can i replace front speakers with floor standing speakers after sometime ? ll the onkyo 3500 receiver ll give enough boost for those speakers?

dont buy anything if already has a plan for replacement.
then go for an avr and 2 fronts....build 5.1 syetem step by step.
good entry level avr is denon 1612 at 25.4k....

ok finally decided to go with 3500. i went for the audition but the model is out of stock have to wait 2 days for the stock to arrive.

Meanwhile, i got 2 questions for onkyo 3500.

1.Will you really feel the Theatrical Experience while watching movies?
2.Most of the people are saying the sound is very much crystal clear but what about the sub ? do u feel thundering effect at high volumes ? or just a plain music effect with less punch in bass ?

i took an audition for onkyo SKS-HT728 which is in stock. it was good but the price is 60k :D

To answer your questions:

Yes. Out will make a tremendous difference when comparing to the normal tv sound. It will be better than Sony definitely. The sub is good too. But everything regarding quality is relative. Basically you get what you pay for. A different system with 90dB sensitivity speakers costing 2L in total will definitely sound better.

Will this system sound like a theatre? Depends upon the acoustics of the room. A closed room with basic accoustics enhancing features such as heavy curtains, carpet, etc. will make a world of difference. Open room with vitreous tiles, sound reflective surfaces can spoil the effect.
