Sony's BDP-S370- Usb play capabilities- Discussion

Oye nice to see you here :ohyeah:

Btw, how much time wud it take to split a mkv file?
And will it reencode or just split both audio and video?
Hope it wont hav av sync issues?

About 10-15 minutes for a 12GB 1080p MKV on my (mildly overclocked) Q6600.
It just demuxes the audio - video streams, no splitting at all. Foolproof.

Hi All,
I wanted to know one thing... I was planning to buy a WD live player when came to know about this.. less costly but a good blue-ray player..which one is a better option ?

I have a old sony dvd player..which works well.. and basically I want to have a player which I can connect to my panasonic plasma to watch movies from my hard disk..but it would be gr8 if it can also play blue ray discs.. bcoz my guess is after this cheap player coming into the market, we will have cheap blue ray discs coming in to the market as well.

Plz advice ...

regards,
Subhashis

Oh...OK.
Actually, there needs to be some work around for this, besides the MKV Splitter.

I am wondering whether it can play a 4.35 GB( typical Animal Planet file) .mkv file, written in a DVD. I need to try it out in a local Croma...........before committing myself.:)

Sure it can play a 4.3GB mkv file off a DVD, but it has to be format profile 4.1 or lesser!

btw...the mkvtoolnix is really a great mkv splitter!
It has really done a great job for me.............just the thing i was looking for.

Hi aninda.....thanks for the info. Can you plz explain a bit more?
What is this format profile 4.1? How to set this?
I use the Roxio Creator DE application to write DVDs. Is it possible to set it from there?

Format profile means the bit rate spec and other techy things related to the video stream in the mkv. I suppose you dl the mkv's. You don't need to set anything, just copy the mkv to dvd. I tried looking for the format profile thing in mkvmerge but couldn't find any setting there. Wiki has a lot of info on format profile. You can take a look there.

Let me know whether I can play a 8GB MKV File burned into a double layer DVDR with the Sony S370 without any problem.

hi all, i am new on this forum.
i have the sony bdp s370 and i really like its features.
i use a 4 gb pendrive and it works like a charm, however when i plugged in my 1 tb wd external drive formatted in fat 32 format, it failed to recognize the drive.
when i called sony support they informed me that the max capacity it can recognize is 16 gb. has anyone tried a 16 gb pen drive? i was planning to invest in one 16 gb pen drive, so suggestions would be appreciated.
also, has anyone tested a US region BD? does it play US BD's?
i am in the understanding that it does not play us bd's.
i am also planning to buy an all for one remote - URC-7950
i guess this can hack the player for multi region capabilities.
please help...

Can Seagate external 1TB or 500GB be formatted in fat32 in windows xp / 7 ...because my 500GB drive is in NTFS mode .......Can I change it to FAT32 so that it can be connected to the BD Player ?

Yes, you can convert it into FAT32, you can use a third party software like FAT32FORMATTER or Swiss knife. However my 1tb has a VCD which cannot be deleted, maybe that is the reason it is not reading...
So, just wanted to check if the player can read a 500gb external hdd before i invest in one...

I have a western digital 500gb HDD and I got it formated to FAT32. Once connected it says " the device connected to the USB is not supported".

I have the 1TB formatted in fat32 using Seagate Diskwizard, And already have over 500Gb of data in it. Works just fine.

The 370 is a good player but the main problem is with Aspect Ratio. Movies which are encoded without the black bars will have a distortion when played back in the 370 but the same file will play fine in vlc media player.

The 370 software often fails to recognise the correct aspect ratio of movies (eg: 2.35 or 2.40 etc...) and plays it with a 16:9 Aspect Ratio which cuts the left and right side of the frame and reduces the resolution........

When I play 16:9 material it plays fine but the problem is with full length Cinema which has much wider aspect ratio......how do we solve this problem ??

i did try using the 1tb wd after supressing the VCD, however i still was unable to get the 1 tb to respond.
however, i did try the samsung 500 gb and it worked.
now i have a new problem..
i had split a mkv file into 2 using mkvmerge, i am able to view it on my system but i do not get any response on the player.
it recognizes the fle and i can view it but when i press enter on the file it just hangs...
any suggestions???
