Hi all,

I am planning to buy Yamaha YHT 196 but i have one confusion. My Tv (sharp LED) has no optical out or coaxial out , but i want the TV sound to play through HTS. Although i have an Analog out (RCA), which i can connect to Analog input of AVR. But i am confused if it will work or not ? and if it does, then its this AVR capable to converting stereo output to surround sound ?

Please help as its the only thing stopping me from buying this

Hi, you cannot have 5.1 surround thru rca. U should feed digital signal to the avr to get the surround sound.

If u r using a stb then why not connect it ? If u r still using a cable then it doesn't support 5.1 channel sound anyway.

Hi metalmickey
Any idea where can the energy take classic be auditioned on Delhi?

Hi sgautam,

I am nt concerned abt cable, bt mainly abt movies i will be playing via usb on directly on my tv .

Plus yamaha people and some audio experts here at hifivision have said that DSP mode on this AVR converts stereo to surround sound , but not true surround sound. Please explain. I want sound to come from all 5 speakers

Hi, u can have many modes which converts 2 channel into multi chanel but that is artificially done. You will not be able to enjoy true 5.1/5.0 channel sound thru usb unless u r using a sound card (not sure of this).

But pl clarify if u have a stb or cable, if its a cable u don't get digital input I.e. coaxial or optical out which can be connected to ur avr. If u r having any stb then it will have a digital out which u can plug to the avr and get true multichannel sound. So u need to tell what is ur source pl.

Thanks, can you specify wharfdale BS model number and approx cost? Also what abt Center and sub?

Hi, there are a pair of diamond spkrs on the for sale section for 11k. Its a very good price. Consider them, I bought my 10.1s from our member and they are as good as new. You will not regret it. If u wish to upgrade later u will not loose much money.

Hi Guys

Heavily dependent on your suggestions for the stepdown transformer for my yamaha receiver(RX-v573). The specs are:
Power Supply - 120V, 60 Hz
Power Consumption - 270 W/320 VA

Kindly suggest will a 750 W step down be sufficient? I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks

To enjoy full HD audio you may have to play it via a blue ray player which supports usb movies or a media player capable of decoding/pass thru of hd audio. Playing with usb on tv and if tv has only 2 channel out, you will never get real 6 channel audio.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
