Yes thanks for the heads up.. i'll definitely check for any offers with Sonodyne.
Why do you say Bookshelves are better than Towers??
i wont be able to spend much time even if i visit Kolkata for asking someone to build speakers, so thats out of question. But if some FM has prebuilt custom speakers, i will be willing to look into them. Location in Kolkata/Pune/Mumbai. Can you kindly PM me some FMs so that i can talk to them?
no, you don't necessarily need to ask anyone to build them. those who do this, they already have some pairs for sale. you could simply take an audition and purchase. but yes, for that, you must first enquire about such people here on the forum. there are quite a few members here from Kolkata. am sure they would chime in here pretty soon!
hyeah:
about towers v/s bookshelves, i wrote about 2 points, the first being that it
could happen sometimes that some custom-built bookshelves may sound equally well & powerful like some commercially available (low-to-mid budget ) floorstanders, if not better; like i had once listened to a pair at the home of one of our forum-members, and they sounded terrific! the powerful sound of 'money for nothing' song that i heard on those still echoes in my mind! from this, moving further, the other point that i wrote of was about aesthetics. family-members of many people don't like to have big towers in their hall, and in such cases, bookshelves on stands look better. but since you have a large hall, this point may seem redundant.
try to get the equipments from Kolkata itself, as shipping such huge things like towers/bookshelves & amp could be a very risky proposition, not to mention, costly as well (i have had a bookshelf-pair of mine damaged in transit once, through DTDC-surface).
at the outset, Patil saaheb's suggestion seems the best & most feasible for you at the moment. moreover, as others have also wrote, you are bound to get the 26% off next month from Sonodyne, so it will be a good deal. by that time, if you happen to visit Kolkata in between, try to get an audition there, or catch hold of some member here in Pune/Mumbai with Sonodyne speakers or similar ones, and pester them for an audition at their place at leisure.
P.S. - what about the Pioneer SP52FS for 20k a pair? these have been garnering interest in the forum since July/August this year i think. some members from
here should be able to shed some light on these V/S the Sonodynes for you. and if they are suitable, and could be shipped to Kolkata, then good. you could perhaps also have a demo of them at Avenue Sound, Mumbai, if its possible.
