I don't know the price difference between ST30 and GT20. And I will check V20.

So GT20 is not available in Pune? Any idea about V20?
Or how is 43D490 / 51D450?

For 42GT20 check with Baner/camp brand shop.
V20 was on display in the recent exhibition by Baner/Camp brandshop so it should be available with them. Quotes will be way higer and you will have to bargain hard! I will PM you salesman number.

My father got negative reviews from everyone he knows about Panasonic. So now we are also looking into Samsung models seriously. Now, 43D490 has 1024x768 - so dad is not interested in it. That leaves 51D490 which has conventional HD ready resolution 1366x768. And this TV comes just about in our budget.
So now looking into GT20 and 51D490. Else, will go for Samsung LED UA40D5000

We finally decided on GT20 or 43D490. Went to many shops and asked Panny dealers but GT20 was not available. So then decided to buy 43D490. But then came to know that 43D490 is out of stock in Pune So now have zeroed on 51D490.
But I am still surprised how can 43D490 be out of stock in peak Diwali period? Is is last year model?

It is new 2011 model only. TVs always go out of stock during diwali.
GT20 is panasonic. You were mentioning that you got bad reviews and are shying away from panasonic? Why were you looking for it?

Don't know about him but I have found the reviews not great either. Basically the brightness is pretty low even for a plasma and people coming from LCD/LED may find it even more difficult to adjust

By bad reviews I meant the usual - Panasonic kyu le rahe ho...Samsung/Sony lo..etc by friends and shop salesmen. Although I trust reviews on this forum, it's a tough task convincing parents. Finally I was able to convince but then the model was out of stock.

Regarding 51D490, bought it finally @ 56k w/ 2 glasses
Reflection is somewhat an issue but PQ is awesome! Happy about everything sans reflection issue. And since I knew about reflection issue before buying I was mentally prepared for this. Time to change the curtains

can it play a .mkv files and blue ray rip file types. i am planning to buy this model

All samsung tv's above 5 series (except D5003 and D503 but including plasma D490 series) plays all friggin formats available (all exotic and even the rare ones) and that includes mkv and has compatibility for ntfs formatted hard disks including 2tb ones !!!

I dont own 40d5500.
But know that it plays majority of Mkvs as the rest of the samsungs out there.
