Top 5 Jazz Albums

Eberhard Weber - Colours of Chloe
Henri Texier - Amir
Dorothy Ashby - The Rubáiyát of Dorothy Ashby
Don Cherry - Brown Rice
Hiroshi Suzuki - Cat
just heard - Eberhard Weber - Colours of Chloe, heart breaking. just lovely. never heard of these albums, thanks for sharing.

On the proverbial island from where presumably there is no escape , one has to take music which one finds fresh , challenging , protean , open to rediscovery every time one listens to them even now. The albums I have chosen have those qualities I believe. Am sure there are many such out there.
Since the OP wants to take 5, I would perhaps add Anthony Braxton’s Saxophone Improvisations; I can imagine myself listening to just its RKRR ( Opus 77C) all day long for days. And Coltrane’s A Love Supreme for its spiritual heft , the gratefulness and the hope it engenders.

Not the usual suspects, but albums I return to on a regular basais:

Bill Frisell - Valentine
Nomo - Ghost Rock
Christian McBride - Sci-Fi
Ernest Ranglin - Modern Answers to Old Problems
Medeski, Martin & Wood - Uninvisible and/or Tonic
Superb (rocking) choices! Just skimmed thru them on YouTube. Please add 5 more :)
