Topping TP20 tripath 2020 amplifier (versus NAD C320BEE)

nope itz the same chip .. check Helder Hifi ebaypage

strategy,
seems u have not read it carefully

@KAUSHIK: Last year I bought "Topping TP20 Mark2 Class T Amp TA2020 25W" from a seller called "dpmega" in ebay. My question: Is the one you are using a better sounding one?

I am using Oppo 981 as a source now. Can you suggest me some source from ebay which will sound close to Marantz 5001cd player? I have a dell studio laptop (no sound card though), so dont mind going for a USB DAC. Please suggest.

Yes, apparently, there were issues before and those are mentioned in the tnt review and also that they were fixed in the latest iteration of the amp.
BTW, did you read the +ve comment after the -ve comment you are referring to which says:

:D

in that he is talking about the T1 amp that Mike has ( with ALPS potentiometer )
from hifimediy

Not the Dayton

there every one has the hifimediy boards , only one has the dayton amp.

EDIT : here , this is the ALPS one he is talking about.

I have read it carefully.

Now that I read it carefully - you are right. BUT - the first negative comment by Allen:
Uh oh. Not good. Just received it. Build quality on the PCB is absolutely horrid and the volume pot causes a 4db channel imbalance. Left side of my HD650 is louder than right. :(
is NOT for the Dayton. It's for the HiFimediy board. That is why Mike responds saying that the one that he received was fine.

He replied to his own post ( in the one which he said dayton released an amp )

so i guess that means he is talking about the dayton amp . Does it not ?

If he was talking about the hifimeDIY , he would have started a new conversation , but here he replied to his owe post.

Your are most welcome to my home in Pune. My Tp20 runs with Usher S520 speakers and Oppo 981 as source.

Hi Sups,
I will be troubling you sometime in Jul-11 to audition your new setup and checking how your Ushers sound with my setup. Too bad, can't come right away... some family issues to resolve till jul-11.

No, it does not mean that he is talking about the Dayton amp. That is an assumption. And so is mine. But as usual I think I'm right :-)

lol,

He clearly says " i received IT" in response to Mike's " Thanks for sharing, Allen. It comes with a headphone jack too! "
yeah its an asumption , but i would say I, my assumption is 99% probable.

IF not , go ahead buy it . !:P

Anytime, as per your convenience. I am sure I will get some tips from you people to make my system sound better.

It will be difficult to judge the sound based on ebay page..
Beating low cost cdp with lowcost dac will be difficult(i have not done AB comp). In HFV qvenu has a good diy dac you can ask him . Also one emu0404 usb used card in 3-4k will be a good source for sure in less price.

If u have PC one more option is use fanless SMPS (1k, very silent ) and a ASUS XONAR.SFF case will be good idea.

Thanks. I have a DELL studio laptop. Is it possible to make some modification to make it silent?
that is off topic but it will be difficult ,u can use heatsinks/specialfans/bios tweak ..ask in notebookreview/tomshardware

i have a sonyvaio it is damn silent ..even at night 12

Thanks Kaushik. My laptop is also silent, but not dead silent. I will mostly go for ASUS XONAR STX card. At about Rs. 8500/- it seems to be the most VFM.

This seems to be the best vfm .. Could you let me know your impressions of the same ?

Also has anyone gone for a Xonar->DAC->topping->CA chain ?would like to know of the sound ..

You can try removing the power-on button. :)

Anyone actually tried Arjen's mods to the Topping other than simply talking about it? :)

Theres a thread on diyaudio about it and various other mods including running it off batteries.
