folks...

need your help !!

I haven't yet finalized on the home theatre system for my new Samsung plasma 51F5500 - while I do my groundwork on it, wanted to check if there is any way that I could connect my Philips Multimedia Speakers (awesome speakers that I earlier used to connect to my laptop) to the TV Output. The Philips speakers have 3.5 mm input and the 51F5500 has a digital audio out (optical) - so how do I connect them? Is there any connector / adapter for a digital audio out to 3.5mm ?

Please suggest.
Thanks for all your help.

The connector you are referring to is actually a DAC but I don't think you need one.
The TV will most certainly have analog audio out either as a 3.5 mm jack or RCAs.
Considering only the later is available, all you might need is a 2 RCA male to 3.5 mm female connector.

Nopes.. It doesn't.. I upgraded my AVR to get optical... It also has ARC in hdmi... I highly doubt the Philips ht supports hdmi in

SPDIF/Coaxial Digital 5.1CH to Analog RCA L/R Audio Decoder Converter with 3.5mm | eBay or similar. They seem to have the headphone mark on the 3.5mm jack which will probably mean your TV speakers will be muted.

Will be much cheaper in the US if you have access to getting it from there.
Amazon.com: Orei DA21 Optical SPDIF/Coaxial Digital to RCA L/R Analog Audio Converter with 3.5mm Jack Support Headphone/Speaker Outputs: Electronics

I am using this to connect my TV to my stereo. Only 2 RCA out, though. You will need another converter cable. This will give you the advantage of being able to use the TV speakers without disconnecting.

Hmm. I guess my knowledge on TVs is outdated.
So the current gen TVs have no headphone or RCA out.
In that case a cheapo DAC should do the trick.

@rajendra
You forgot to tell us what is the source.
Most likely, it should have analog audio output along with HDMI eliminating the need for a converter. But ofcourse, your TV's volume control wouldn't work.

The latest generation TVs don't come with any analog audio outs... not even headphone jacks. Funny because their ultra thin speakers are actually lacking in any decent SQ.

Only option is to use HDMI and ARC or some TVs might have digital audio outs (SPDIF or Coaxial) which can be connected to an AVR.

folks - thanks for your inputs...

attached is the snapshot of the TV output & input.
Is there any other low cost option to connect Digital audio out to 3.5 mm ?

The snap is not clear. But I can see some RCA connectors on the rear side. Are these inputs or outputs? What is your TV model?
Some relevant Info:
a) A digital Audio out from TV ( Optical/SPDIF/Co Axial/HDMI) will need an external Digital to Analog converter (DAC) before connecting to speakers or an AVR.
b) If the TV has analog out ( 3.5mm or RCA) you can directly connect to the speakers. All you need is an appropriate cable.

The TV Model is Samsung Plasma 51F5500.
I don't think this TV has an analog out - all it has is a Digital Audio Out (Optical)

Here is a link where u can see the backside of this TV
