Byomkesh Bakshi (1993) directed by Basu Chatterjee was the critically acclaimed television adaptation of the series. Actor Rajit Kapur played the role of Byomkesh Bakshi, for which he was highly praised. Ajit was played by K.K. Raina and Satyaboti was played by Sukanya Kulkarni who was the first actress to play the character. The series lasted for 33 episodes.

^^ Absolutely .... an extremely well made Indian detective serial.

I would rate it a very close 'second' to "The Old Fox", a West German detective serial aired during the late 70s and early 80s in Doordarshan ... or am I getting the period wrong?

Dunno, how many of you were born then? :p

Yes I recall watching "Old Fox". No points for guessing how I could watch a teleserial going so far back in time ... ;)

I think it was the mid-80s. A lot of detective serials ran around that time - Old Fox, The Investigator, Shoe String, Target...That was the time when we used to get a lot of Transtel production...German serials dubbed in English.

Yep ... Transtel Zeigt and Transtel Cologne .... memories coming back!

But, could'nt have been mid 80s ... I was in Engg college that time and college did not have TV. It has to be late 70s and early 80s. I also remember by Dad filling me up on things I did not understand due to my poor Angrezi. He too was hooked on to this serial.

I also liked a detective serial called "Suraag" starring Sudesh Beri. It used to run on DD in late 90's or early yrs of 2000. I found it an entertaining balance of good plot + masala... anyday better than cheese of CID

BTW I feel the "Crime Patrol" presently running on Sony is the best we ever had in detective genre.

I REMEMBER ANHONEE HAHAHAHHA

I also remember the british comedy which used to air on DD metro. I miss those shows. I wish I could remember their names. They're not like the shit made today and actually made a difference on the IQ of the nation. VS all the "Indian drama" that took off post 2000's and now every 6 months theres a new "indian drama" where someones always trying to belittle the other.

I watched karamchand when I was a kid. pankaj kapoor was a good actor. kitty gazar khao gazar!!

Oh my favorite!! Kitty ... Gajar ... krrunch ...!

The teleserials of today where every family member is plotting the downfall of another can be the subject of a conspiracy theory or just dismissed as the product of deranged minds that don't know they are deranged. :indifferent14:

Extended watching and fixation on any TV programming is simply bad mental hygene to me. :ohyeah:

panasonic top dome CRT

Its still there in my parent's bed room too.

I liked Chandrakanta, Alif Laila, Vikram Betaal, Byomkesh Bakshi ,Tehkikaat and Aahat on Sony used to scare the crap out of me. Later I got bored. Now no desi serials, they are so predictable, drama, senti, overaction, etc crap.

Anybody remember Oshin?

Above all...Chanakya will be my favorite forever. Recently completed the series on youtube.

tehkikaat, reporter, tiger, junoon, dekh bhai dekh and zaban sambhalke make me nostalgic. Not to forget Neenv , Subaah and Inkaar (about drug abuse). oh I also remember Talaash (Lekhu ?) and Karamchand. But I think most popular were Ramayan and Mahabharat
