HI Friends,
I want to improve the vocals sound of my Logitech Z-5500 and I thought to replace its center channel with Wharfedale WH-2 CENTRE Speaker. Please suggest me will this give me some noticeable improvement or will be just wastage of money.
Im planning to buy AVR based HT system after 8-9 months.

Regards,
/Alok

Will be helpful if you may provide the amplifier specification of Logitech.

Here is the details I've grabbed from web.
z5500:
# Total FTC power: 505 watts RMS
Sub-woofer: 188 watts RMS (into 8 ohms, @ 100Hz, @ 10% THD)
Satellites:
Left/Right: 62 watts RMS x 2 (into 8 ohms, @ 1khz, @ 10% THD)
Center: 69 watts RMS (into 8 ohms, @ 1kHz, @ 10% THD)
Rear Left & Right: 62 watts RMS x 2 (into 8 ohms, @ 1kHz, @ 10% THD)
# Total Peak power: 1010 watts
# Maximum SPL: >115 dB
# Frequency response: 33 Hz 20 kHz
# Amplifier: Ultra-linear, high-capacity analog
# Signal to noise ratio: >93.5 dB, typical 100
# Input impedance: 8,000 ohms

And the details of Wharfedale WH-2(from hifimart) is below.
* Power handling: 120 watts
* Sensitivity: 89 dB
* Impedance: 6 ohms
* Magnetically shielded? Yes
* HxWxD (mm): 128 x 420 x 150
* Frequency response: 80 - 20,000 Hz
* Connections: 4mm gold-plated banana plug/binding posts.
* Bass port? Rear ported
* Drivers: Treble: 28mm dome tweeter
* Mid/bass: 2 x 100mm polypropylene cones

I have the z5500 as well as wharfedale 10.1. Though not the central channel ones they definitely sound better than the logitech satellites. However the thing about surround sound is that all the speakers especially the left centre and right channels should be the same to make the surround effects more cohesive thats why I use the wharfs for a separate stereo setup for music.
Since you are planning a AVR it will be better to save the money and later buy a home theater speaker package consisting of similar speakers.

I agree with audiodoc

Though you may get better mids there won't be a synergy in the overall performance. My usual suggestion is to have same series/model for the surrounds as the main speakers.

But if the centre is going to be different from the fronts, its a strict no no from me...

I dont have any plan to use the same wharfdale WH-2 with the AVR thats the reason I'm have selected the cheapest available center speaker. I'll move that along with z5500 to another room.

My suggestion is that you shouldn't buy a centre channel separately. If you want to improve the sound of the Z5500 try to get a better source of replace the satellite cabinets by well designed DIY MDF enclosures.
