i have been told by one dealer that UPS power voids most of the AVR brands warranty, suggests instead to buy a stabilizer of 1.5 KVA capacity and a surge protector for the digital cable transmission. He also says online UPS cannot protect the equipment from lightning surges at all.
Another dealer says the above combination will not suffice and instead advised me to go with an online UPS (Liebert or APC)

Which will work effectively?

I just got myself a 3KVA APC Online UPS for all my home audio gear after a blown sub due to power surge.

The UPS output is connected to a 16 amp socket through a 4 mm wire. This in turn is connected to a 8 pin belkin surge protector. Changed the wire on the surge protector to 3 core 110/76 and updated the plug to 16amp.
Everything works great with enough power for future upgrades.

power surges can be protected against using a qood quality surge arrestor ( 4000 Joules minimum - hospital grade if possible )
and a double protection can be given with an isolation transformer
(normally a combination of these rarely will allow anything to happen to downstream equipment - unles theres an act of god)

so krishna
what your friend/dealer says is not wrong

he is also not wrong when he says that certain companies void warranty when using a UPS
this is due to sqaure wave generation by some UPS and a frequency issue
Marantz i know for sure voids all warranty when used with UPS
Denon is going to follow suit as informed by KEI

an isoaltion trafo (2kva ) with a heavy duty surge protector and inbuilt RF EMI filter would be my choice
good clean power
good protection

No ills of a re generator

This is well and good for surge protection but how do i supply clean power to the equipment with the local electricity board power supply being poor? Also i heard for best surge protection, whole house surge protection is best (Type 2 SPD) along with plugin Type 3 SPD for critical equipment. Eaton makes good stuff but it is hard to get them in India. Very few dealers know about it or sell them

Surge protection
I'm pretty sure Siemens had stuff for it for home

I use it
My electrician bought

The soundfoundations barracuda
Has a12000 joule hospital grade surge protection unit and an rf emi filter

However it doesn't come with an isolation transformer

Maybe they will work on that in the future

Most UPS today have surge protection inbuilt - usually MOV based.
A good UPS will usually do the job. A step higher would be to protect the UPS too and also act as a double protection. This can be done with a servo stabilizer (Vertex commonly used here) or an advanced surge protector like SurgeX (costs around 20K), has protection from surges, over/under voltage, EMI/RFI and inrush current.

Magma - so a 2kvA isolation transformer connected to the barracuda should work right?

krishnamurthy - check hifimart, they have it in the accessories segment, around 9k

Isolation transformer works as long as the peak voltage does not exceed the insulation rating of the transformer and is useful when there is a very noise ground. A surge superimposed equally on both the line (L) and neutral (N) conductors will see rejection by the isolation transformer, while a surge appearing differentially between the L and N conductors will pass through the transformer. So its efficacy is limited

Correct

But that's why you use both in conjunction

The ISO trafo
Helps clean up a noisy ground and helps nicely from what I have experienced
As opposed to a conventional regenerator
