Hello freinds,

Has anybody experienced this ? the video jerking is very visible on wide pan scenes. I have googled and tried some settings. Not working.

But all seem to point to this as a software / setting issue. I am playing mkv's on a windows 7 machine. HDMI to a 40 inch lcd.

Any help appreciated

thanks
Sachin

Must be this problem: The Big Judder Problem and the Overhyping of 24p

What you just experienced was motion judder, an extremely annoying artifact that derives from the fact that movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps). The 24 fps sampling rate was adopted as a de facto standard in 1926 ...

As it turns out, it is way too slow to resolve camera panning motion cleanly. So when a movie camera pans at an unfortunate speed, you get motion judder.

Thanks Gobble.
so i guess there is no way out :(

btw i noticed that VLC logs lost farmes .. around 60 by the end of the movie i was watching ( oceans 13, the scene after george clooney confronts al pacino to give his freinds dues, there is a pan scene with mountains) .. but have not found any fixes online.

thanks

GET a TV with Inter Frame compensation or IFC or " Trumotion" that is known to work or something.

sounds like your tv has a high response time, not able to refresh fast enough. try a different tv and see. if you have a old crt lying around, test with that.

Try Gom player, which is, IMHO, the best media player. Vlc has a lot of bugs and problems. I have tried both of them and GOM is better than vlc.

try bs player with haali media splitter or mpc with k-lite that will solve the problem.. vlc have knows issues with high res movies and also uses a lot of cpu juice....

Thanks guys. I tired all these players and the problem still exists :( but yes with the bs player that ironhouse mentions it was slightly reduced.

So i guess time for a 'motion plus' tv :)

What would be great is if someone can play this on such a TV and report findings. I know i am asking a lot !

thanks
Sachin

what TV (make and model) is that and what size of file are you playing on it ??

its not about motrion plus.. motion plus will make it buttery smooth but you will still miss the frames.. it has to do with the response time.. however if the tv is new.. that should not be the case... try to connect you cpu to a monitor and check..

if still issue persists.. then its the computer....

please mention your system configuration.. along with the kind of files you are playing. it will help to isolate the other reasons and get the correct cause..

also mention OS and incase if any extra services running in the background....

also if you are playing via external HDD or internal HDD of desktop.. OS and whatever else comes to your mind.. it will be helpfull.. we might save some money of yours...

but first mention the exact model number of the tv..

Thanks theironhorse.

Here are more details.

TV model - samsung HD ready LA40R81B
40" LCD TV - LA40R81B - LCD TV - television | SAMSUNG

Now i have tried with 17 inch monitor - no jadder with any media player.

I also have a WDTV. Pluged it to TV , same scene and see the jadder.

So i am guessing its a TV problem.

My computer details

MB - gigabyte 785 usb3
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3 - GA-785GMT-USB3 (rev. 1.0)
using onbaord graphics.
4 GB memory
500 HDD
WIN 7

Playing files on HDD. for WDTV through external drive.

thanks
Sachin

got you buddy.. here is the culprit.. most of the pc monitors now come with 2ms time response... and the tv is on 8ms.. so whenever fast scenes are there it creates judder..

hmmm..lets see..tell me how are you connecting your pc ... through hdmi or rca ???

either will not solve the problem completely... but if it can be done hdmi it will be a lil better.. if you are are already on hdmi.. then no go...

system is fine.. its the tv.. but if its connected through vga.. try conencting through hdmi - to - hdmi or dvi-hdmi-hdmi... it will be a lot better.. as rca is analog..

thanks mate.

yes it is hdmi :( so time for a new tv then :) actually i was looking for a good reason other than it not being Full HD ;) got one now.

now only if i can convince the wife :)

Guys,

Just an update on this, I had not been using the HTPC much for movies (been only using for music with foobar), until now when i bought the 50Vt20.

So the problem after all was refresh rate . changing to 24hz removed the judder totally. I am using XBMC which automatically changes refresh rate based on the movie file. So this is working great.

Thanks to Sam9s's thread and some other info on other site, i have managed to set up the xbmc. And i got the 2 audio outs configured with a patch, one optical to the DAC and one to the reciever (my reciever does not support HDMI audio). So this now truly makes the wdtv reduntant which has only one optical out. The interface is just awesome , although it required setting up metadata etc.

Last step is to set up xmbc to boot instead of explorer on win 7. And little teething issues with the harmony 525 that i am tryin to use.

I already have a blu ray drive on the machine. So i am hoping this should cater to all my needs now :)

Thanks again to Sam ! Your thread made it so easy :)

I can help you with the 525. My 700 works perfect on my system. :D
I have also set the wdtv to 23.9xx Hz and it has been a hit or miss based on film's refresh rate. Setting to Auto will not play in native resolution.

VT20 plays 24Hz content beautifully though. More so than 50Hz content which is wierd.

BTW, Refer http://www.hifivision.com/home-thea...931-light-weight-media-player-720p-1080p.html

VLC is not the player for HD rips. Try using MPC HC.
