Hey All,

Might be a good idea to know what you ride as well. Could be plain, rare, expensive, economical, whatever.

I ride a 1968 Jawa 353 single 250cc and a 1958 354 twin 350 cc

Santhosh,

I've been rightly accused as a man of (wealth?) and taste. Guilty as charged.A HT RD350! That's reasonable rare too. The 354 is at the workshop. I'll let you know when it's out.

Are you the the person behind the write up which was published in one of the Sunday Middays a short while back???

Edit: Just checked, it was Sept 18 2011 issue of Sunday Midday

Glad to find another bike guy :D

I'm interested in vintage and classic bikes. I have several BSAs ranging from a 125cc Bantam two-stroke to a 650 cc Golden Flash ohv parallel twin along with a few mundane B31 350 cc four strokes. Also Matchless and Triumph as well as a couple of Royal Enfields. I had a Norton 16H 500 cc side valve single of 1942 vintage (ex army) in beautifully restored condition but a friend badgered me to part with it. Its gone and I've been looking for a replacement ever since.

I also have a couple of Lambretta and a Vespa (fully restored) and a few sidecars. If anyone is selling a sidecar, I'm interested.

Regards.

@miroflex: That is some collection of English bikes you got there. Appreciate if you can share some pics. FYI, member Trittya also has a couple of vintage bikes.

Hi Santhosh,

Thanks for your appreciation. I don't have a digital camera or digital pictures with me in Allahabad. Will try to upload some pictures as and when I go to Dehradun, where the bikes are kept.

Regards.

Denom,

I am media shy. I ride my bikes and that's about it. The last time we invited a journo on a ride, some guys got media hungry and turned the International Jawa CZ day into a circus and it has stayed that way ever since.

I had a couple of other Jawas too. A model 579, very rare, model 634 (sold both) and still have a yezdi model B, which is a donor bike for my 353

Miroflex, A Goldie, no less! I have a dream to own a Dommie SS, but that will not happen. And then I was cheated out of a nice BSA A7.

Pardon me for saying so, but some of the people I have met who own and collect Brit twins are extremely selfish. I still nurture the hope that I shall at least be able to get my hands on a Triumph Speed Twin. Who knows.

Congratulations on your fine collection. What sort of a sidecar are you looking for?

FV

woohoo you guys are amazin here... That's a strong collection out there.. The BSAs, the Jawas the RDs... Just curious to know, any one who has a Harley Davidson in his garage???

I was also cheated out of a nice BSA A7 Star Twin by a mechanic whom I questioned about its previous history. He did not know it was for sale till I told him and immediately jumped in behind my back and bought it.

He later offered me a sports model BSA A10 fitted with a tachometer and also an Ariel girder fork 500 cc ohv twin port model of 1930s vintage. I was obstinate enough or foolish enough to refuse both, little realising that supplies of British vintage and classic bikes were drying up. Both ended up with dealers in Delhi.

Regards.

Anything from a German Steib single adult sports to those huge double adult and four adult British sidecars like the Busmar Astral and the Canterbury. Vintage Swallow sidecars and veteran wicker bodied ones. Also those made by motorcycle manufacturers like BSA, Norton, the vintage Triumph Gloria. Also the two wheel drive combination of Norton Big Four (600 cc side valve engine) and side car with detachable drive to the sidecar wheel, controlled by a hand lever.

I am also interested in motorcycles considered specially suitable for use with sidecars like the 500cc BSA M20 and the 600 cc M21, the Norton 500 cc 16H and the 600 cc Big Four, the Panther and the 500cc Velocette MSS.

Can you point out any that are available?

Regards

WOW, this thread is getting really :licklips:

Does anyone have a BSA GoldStar
It is my dream to own one since my dad had one & has always lovingly talked about it & such a fool he was to part with it

Another bike I'm after is the 1948 Indian Chief
Nearly got hold of 1 about 12 years back but was cheated out of it

Hmmm the Norton Dominator SS! There is one in Bangalore with a collector. But FV, why do you say it will not happen?

Do you guys also own a vintage 4-wheelers?

I own a super-rare (even if I say so myself....I know of only one another in India) 1955 LHD Willys CJ3B Petrol Jeep. Rare because.. when Willys launched CJ3B model, they still had a few tubs (body) from the previous production model CJ3A. So, they made some minimal factory modifications on the CJ3A to make it a CJ3B and also retaining the 5 meter console from the CJ3A. Ok, I'll stop boasting now:lol:

That's some shopping list. I'll ask a few people. I don't think there'll be much left.

Denom, my old man had a Triumph Speed Twin. When he moved from Delhi to Hyderabad, he sold it because he didn't think tha there would be mechanics good enough there. That's when he bought that Jawa, which I so curse at times.

If in Bangalore, come down to the Motorcycle Cafe Museum on a Sunday. There's always a bunch of guys there about breakfast time. Laast time I was there, two Dommies and on A10 were milling around

The motorcycle mechanics in Hyderabad are probably as good as, if not better, than their counterparts in Delhi. It is a question of finding the right one and sticking to him. Continuity is as important in regard to motorcycle maintenance as in other types of diagnostics and treatment.

I used to ride my Hero Honda CD100 comfortably for a very long time. Now I ride my Yamaha R15 over the weekends with great difficulty.

Hi,

No new posts for over a month. Did people give up riding in anticipation of the hike in petrol prices?

There was a rear engined British car called the Trojan in the 1930s that used to be advertised as "The Car That Makes Walking An Expensive Luxury". The total running costs were advertised as 2d a mile and the rhetorical question was posed "Can You Afford To Walk?".

Perhaps we need something like the Trojan in the two wheeler category, although the running costs of the battery powered two wheelers seem low enough.

Any comments?
