What poison are you having today ?

Absolut : One of the best mid vodkas I've ever had, goes well with ice or in cocktails. Also come in different flavors :slurp:

Skyy : Felt same as Absolut, comes in different cocktail flavors.

Hennessy : Comes in different variants. Least priced is V.S. @ 4K (2-4 years), V.S.O.P @ 7.5K (4-6 years) and X.O. @ 21K (6 - 20 years). They're some awesome brandies.

Jack Daniel's Honey : Never heard of it.

My recommendations :

Vodka for shots : Ketel One
Cognac to relax : Hennessy VSOP
Budget cognac you won't regret : Nepoleon VSOP Bardinet

I picked up a a bottle of JD Honey from JFK duty free a year ago and before I could even get to taste it properly on one evening my son down on a visit from the US hosted his buddies and they polished it off! I liked the one sampler that I had of it though. Must get one more in future.

Amrut is hosting a single malt tasting session at my club next week, with 6 blind samples followed by unlimited pourings..Must go for it..

First tasted alcohol in 2009 when my friend bought black label, Bacardi and Smirnoff. All of them were okay. Then every year when he came to town, he brought stuff like Absolut, Skyy, Hennessy, Jack Daniels, Jack Daniels Honey, Jose cuervo, Remy Martin etc.

Tequila was fun to drink. Licking salt, taking the shot, sucking lime though I didn't like the taste of tequila alone. Three of us were having it along with 2 bottles of home brew wine aged around two years. One guy was 117kg who couldn't even manage 5 push-ups did 17.

We were really happy. I was laughing nonstop for few minutes for no reason. A kid of 20, he decided to 'feel the wind' and took of in his pulsar 220 at 2am and crashed. I was out.

Some how the kid managed to give a call to my fat friend and he some how managed to drive his car and take the kid who was lying unconscious on the road to a hospital.

After 2 months in hospital and resting for 6 months and spending around 3 lacs, he was able to walk. After that I stopped making wines and we didn't drink. The thought that if the kid had died that day sends a chill down my spine.

Anyway, It's my fat friend's Marriage this year and he is wishes to bring something special for us. Out of the ones I have tasted, I liked JD honey, Remi martin VSOP and Hennessy (Black bottle). I opted for JD honey as I liked it much (Tasty and smooth).

One bottle won't be enough. Any recommendation not exceeding 10-12k INR.

Btw, Just a comparison I did with Indian and foreign maal. Heineken cans from UK tasted awesome compared to below average Indian Heineken made by UB. I managed to drink half the bottle and the other half went into the drain.

I was expecting so much as it was the costliest beer available in the local outlet (Triveni, state govt.). Skyy bought from Bangalore by a friend didn't taste as good as the imported one. In beer available locally, I like Budweiser strong. The bottle looks cool too.

AFAIK its not sold anywhere outside Bangalore and couriering it is illegal. If you let me know where you are located I can bring one across when I visit your area hopefully!

>Can you courier one to me ? Can't get hold of Amrut anywhere

@GeorgeO, I'm from Kolkata :)

@sarith, Heineken made by UB :yuck: I like Budweiser Magnum and Carlsberg Elephant. I also like Dansberg but availability is always the issue.
@10-12K budget, is he coming from overseas ? You're looking to have Scotch, Irish, Cognac, Wines, Bourbon ?

oops..by saying Bud 'strong' I was referring to Bud Magnum itself. Yes, he's coming from UK. Bourbon sounds good. This UK friend has bought Jim bean too (forgot to mention) and I liked it. Could you give me a suggestion for both Cognac and Bourbon?

He's coming from UK, Bourbon being Americano will cost him more. Go for Scotch. But still if he can find them cheaper, it would be good, wouldn't it ? I mean who doesn't love Bourbon :)

Bourbon : Gentleman Jack / Evan Williams Black / Hudson Baby / Lidl Western Gold / Eagle Rare

Cognac : Courvoisier Connoisseur / Remy Martin XO / Martell XO / Courvoisier Exclusif

Just gonna copy and paste what you suggested:p. Thank you very much:)

AnubisX will keep that in mind, let me see what is possible. Yesterday I attended a wine appreciation evening hosted by Sula showcasing some of their wines. It was hosted by a lady sommerlier from Sula and was both informative and enjoyable. Their Reisling was a reveleation though not cheap at 830 a bottle.

Damn !! 830/- per bottle is not cheap when it's coming from Sula and is white wine. Gotta try that. Is that like Chardonnay ??

Tasted a bit better, to most of us. They werent sure how successfully they could grow the grapes of this variety(first time in India) but to their pleasant surprise it turned out better than they expected.

I used to be part of the Pune Gourmet Club. On the recommendation of a Parsi gentleman I met through the club, I tried Samara white. Please try it if you can find it, although I am assuming the wine still tastes roughly the same after a few years since I last tried it.

My wife and I got completely converted to Samara white. It is very flavorful and fruity and tastes better than almost any other Indian white. Best of all, it costs Rs.250 or so, at least in Pune.

@denom, it's really good but I like Black Dog 12-years over 100 Pipers 12-years.

@rijuc, chicken chaat masala is my special chicken dish made without garlic-onion. It's full of whole cumin, whole coriander, little bit of hing + rock sale and lots of lime, green chillies and coriander leaves. It's awesome.

That is indeed a very interesting sounding dish. Sounds quite yummy from the ingredients alone! Do you just stir fry all the ingredients together?

This is my favorite! Unfortunately the ones we get in Gurgaon is no longer the way it used to be :)

Something that will never get old.

@Rockfella, Knob Creek is pretty awesome for shots :)

@asliarun, the dish is stir fry only. Add a pinch of hing and whole spices to little oil, add ginger and add chicken small cubes once the spices crackles. Stir for a few minutes till the chicken are cooked fully. Add coriander powder + rock salt and stir for a few minutes. Once done, finish with lots of nimbu and chopped green chillies and fresh coriander / pudina leaves. You can eliminate Hing if you want as a lot of people don't like Hing. You can serve with Chaat Masala if you want, it will be awesome too :) You gotta experiment with this thing. I mad this today only for my post-workout meal :)

@sarith, Sula is available everywhere. Try it, it's not bad.
