Offlate I have come across a number of advertisements where LED TVs with Samsung / Sony panels are being sold at very competitive prices. A 55 inch smart is somewhere 41K with 1 yr replacement warranty.

I would like people to share their experience and advise on these products. Has anyone bought it and how has the performance been?

Let's enlighten each other.

Thanks

These are being imported in bulk from Malaysia / China. When you switch them on they show Samsung and Sony written. They have good picture quality and smart with Wifi. I am not sure about manufacturer warranty since practically there is NO manufacturer here so as to say but the dealer gives replacement warranty.

Please Post a link of such an advertisement. Would be interesting to see the details.

Sony does not make panels now, so I wonder how they made a TV with Sony panel

These are not samsung panel LED tvs in an way, its just small scale chinese industries manufacturing illegal unbranded replicas and selling without any labelling brown box tvs, people importing them sell by just pasting stickers with texts like samsung panel/ sony panel just to make newbies fool about claim that its manufactured in same facility where a samsung branded led is made, these chinese tvs logo and startup screen are changed according to market demand by importer and it can show any brand name written but its all same, and actually creepy product, you may find it without stickers of brands as well and it will cost you 2-3k less, I have seen sony branded leds with tags like made in korea, which was actually inteded to be a samsung copy but later sold as sony by changing logo and startup screen.

Hi

There are a lot of chinese brands unofficially floated in the market...especially in Mumbai when one visits the electronic component market (Lamington Road), you will be surprised to see the Disk Players, LED TVs etc which work so well and look damn good too...available for fraction of the cost....

End of the day its an individual personal call to decide what fits the wallet, what looks good and performs best....

The fact is that any decent LED will last you anything between 3-5 years....so far mine is still alive and this is the 4th year ...touchwood....warranty is over....

if you are fine with the cheap cost and able to live with it for 1-2 years then go ahead....

I cannot disagree with this.

It all depends on luck I guess. Few years back my brand new samsung plasma went kaput within 5 months and they replaced it with another and that too went off the same way and then samsung refunded the amount. But in case of these cheap knock offs, you can't do anything if something goes wrong, how can you trust them on replacement warranty? Better to buy branded ones where atleast you'll have some sort of service back up.
But considering the cost and 1 yr replacement warranty... would it be worth it?

Replacement warranty is ensured. Since these guys are local they will honor it. I know someone who got replacement Even from a different city though he paid the shipping one way but still he got the replacement.

Ok, he got replacement means problem occurred within a year, so the decision really depends on how you perceive the amount spent, if you think its ok to spend x amount for 12 months and if the life is longer it is an added bonus or if you think its not value for money to spend just for 12 months and then again spend if it goes off after the warranty period.

Well it wasn't a problem as such. He was not happy with sound quality (which as such is not great with slim TVs) so he just got it replaced to clear his doubt.

Today I went to the dealer to see the demo of the 55 inch full HD. All shopkeepers will run a standard video from their pendrive. Some english videos of Dubai and some full HD hindi songs.

I want to know if there are any specific test videos which one can run to see the video quality... I am not sure if there is possibility to check refresh rate. Any help in this?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
