Combo A:
Denon 1713 + Wharfedale MS 100

Combo B:
Denon 1713 + pair of Wharfedale 10.1 front speakers + Wharf 10 CC centre speaker

Price is exactly the same.

Thank you,
Rikhi

Try Paradigm 100CT as well !!

I would go with B where you have the option of adding 2 more 10.1's for surround at a later date. Do demo/compare them with the newer 121 though (hardly any diff in price).

Try searching a bit with the Wharfedale dealers. 9.2 would be superior to the 10.1. You may settle for a pair of 9.2s and 9 CS centre channel to begin with.
Additional advantage with the 9.2 is that they are front ported.

+1 to that. A 3.0 option would still be decent enough to start with. You can add the subwoofer when budget permits (making it 3.1), and a pair of rear speakers when your budget further permits (reaching your final goal of 5.1).

I watch movies in a 2.0 configuration, and even that is quite satisfying (of course, you have to keep in mind that my speakers have 12 inch woofers!)

Best,
APK.

Combo B:
Denon 1713 + pair of Wharfedale 10.1 front speakers + Wharf 10 CC centre speaker
Combo B would be my choice IF you could do three Wharfedale 10.1 speakers up front.

If you are determined to use a horizontal centre speaker, then the Wharf 10 CS is a better match for the 10.1 bookshelves.

Thanks everyone for your responses. It acted as a re-assurance to my decision. Instead of Wharfs, I am now planning to try Klipsch RB 51 (Reference series) or Dali Lektor 2 along with Denon AVR 1713. For now, planning to start with 2.0 set-up as I got the feedback that the center would be useful only when I put surrounds. Any thoughts?

A noob question. What did you mean by horizantal centre speaker? If it is the placement you are talking about, then aren't horizontal speakers?

Also, can the CS go with 1713??? Suitable Amplifier Power 20 - 150W for CS

Any reason for not going for the Wharfs. I am also planning for HT and was considering option B without the centre. Any particluar reason for not going with it??

In my limited knowledge, Klipsch has a better brand value and I was really flattered to see the surrounds from Klipsch (although that will be in phase 2). Each of those surrounds have 2 tweeters and 2 woofers (Surround Speakers - Surround Sound | Klipsch). Look at RS 42 or 52. Even if you see the fronts, they have better quality than Wharfs 10.1. If we go higher in the 10 series then we may find the equivalent of Klipsch RB 51. The other factor is that the dealer that I am speaking to does not deal in Wharfs so I will have to order from hifi mart. All the best !

can you please post the price quoted for Klipsch.

Hope you have made due considerations for the 'Klipsch fatigue'.
Indian ears are more attuned to the softer English tones (190 years :p)!

Prices are inline with the wharfs 121. Have you got your AVR yet or the discount is only if you purchase AVR also?

Haven't bought the AVR yet but 15% discount is on the MRP for AVR as well. If I just buy the speakers, it will still be 15% on MRP fo the speakers.

Will hear and decide ;) Have asked him to get Klipsch RB 51, Dali Lektor 2 and any 5.1 (maybe polk TL1600) so that I can compare and decide. Unfortunately, he does not have Wharfs so can't audition them.

What did you mean by horizantal centre speaker?
"Horizontal" meaning drivers arranged side by side (bad idea) instead of arranged vertically (like the Wharf 10.1, Klipsch RB-51, and practically every speaker out there).
Also, can the CS go with 1713???
According to the Denon website, the AVR-1713 delivers 120 watts into 6 ohms, which should work out nicely for the Wharf speakers since they have 6 ohm impedence and are pretty inefficient.

The speaker spec says Suitable Amplifier Power 20 - 150w and Nominal Impedance 6 ? . Doesnt it mean the amp must be able to deliver 150w power?? Please correct me if I am wrong. I have just 2 weeks of AV kowledge.
Learning in process:)

No, the manufacturer is saying that the speaker can handle anywhere between 20 to 150 watts.
