Hi good ppl,

I'm considering buying a good all-in-one printer for home use. Primary usage would be go print out photos, scan docs as PDFs and the occasional photocopy (tempted to say xerox).

No idea on what to look out for, what brands, what price range etc.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

cheers!

I think Hp is a good option..I recently bought HP all in one 3050.It has wireless connectivity..

Me too looking for the same.
BTW is inkjet or laserjet better? For homeuse anyway - same requirements scan, printouts and ofcourse occasional photocopy.
What will be the maintenance criteria for either inkjet or laser printers?

From what I've been reading, inkjets should be good enough for us. But the running cost might be higher...

Yes, inkjets are a pain in that department .... overall operational costs are higher than laser ..

I am also planning to upgrade the desktop .... most likely tilting towards the Dell 2205 ... its a towerless design, with only 'one' power cord to deal with ... the keyboard, mouse are wireless.... big backlit LED screen with webcam and all bell&whistles built in there itself ....... all @ 30K. Have to "audition" it .. :p

Any suggestions here?

HP printers are the best as far as printers concern, for the laser print purpose Hp holds a high reputation among the people. But when it comes for inkjet cannon is pretty recommendable.

^^^+1. For photo printing, Canon is the best.

But let me warn you from my own experience. I have HP Photosmart All-in-One C6200 (printer, copier, scanner, ethernet) purchased in 2007. In the first year, I used to print photos enthusiatically. Then the enthu died down and today printer has been mostly lying idle and at most used as a scanner or copier.

Inks are very expensive. This particulat printer used 5 colour inks + blacks. The light inks get used up very quickly. Photos (post card size) cost Rs. 6 to print. The A4 size cost upto Rs. 34. All these cost assume original HP supplies. Unfortunately, my printer was purchased in USA and uses HP-02 ink cartridges. These are not available in India. Each colour cartridge costs $9.99 and the black costs $19.99.

The printer refuses to print if any ink cartridge is empty. It does not print in pure black also. This is really hitting below the belt. One might say - use refills. Forget it. Refills may be possible for black but for colours you will find true matching colours hard to come by. It is like the typical Gillette razor - razor is cheap, blades are expensive.

The point I am trying to make is that, for all you know, Epson, Canon, HP, Kodak, etc. are feathers from the same flock. Forget about photo printing. It is much cheaper to get it done from the neighbouring Kodak Photofast. My advise is, if you need a printer for everyday printing, buy a cheap laserjet such as HP 1007.

Purchased a Lenovo B300 towerless desktop with wireless keypad and mouse .... @ 28 k from Lenovo's Nehru Place outlet.

Would be picking up the HP 2060 K110a inkjet all-in-one printer/scanner/copier ..... @ 6 k shortly.

Bought a HP K209 printer-scanner-copier .... @ 7.7 K

It has ink saving settings .......... very very fast printing ... comes closer to laser printing speeds ....... approx. page printing cost @ Rs. 0.72 per page. The equipment size is also very compact.

I was looking for print/scan/copy and then the laser option.
The entry level laser jet is 1020 plus from HP. Well that's apprx 7000Rs with only print option, no copy/scan.
But i suppose only inkjet offers (all-in-one) at this approximate price point (couple of 1000rs - plus or minus)
(The inkjet replacements are not quality level and if needed with the original replacement - that's on higher priced!!) Anything better?

Just got Epson TX121 for 3300/- today. Seems to be the right type of printer/scanner/copier for home/small office use.

Epson Stylus TX121

Have been using Epson printers for a good 7 years now & am very satisfied with their performance.

Reviving this as need to identify a decent option now. A few things
1. Need a simple device that can print and scan. Do not need a copier as a must
2. Usage is VERY minimal, maybe a print once in 10 days or so.
Do i skip inkjets and consider lasers only? Am inclined towards HP only.

No ....... stick to inkjet. Cheaper to replace.
Read a few reviews on the Epson 121, people say that have to replace cartridge after printing only 10 pages??? Does not look like realistic. Any idea on this? I do not need for daily printing, maybe 10-15 pages a week. Hardly any copying and scanning 10-15 a week too.
Any suggested models?

Looks, you don't have the habit of going thru the earlier posts ..... HP K209

Thanks for the reply, you could have worded this a little better( minus the sarcasm). I think i missed that post as i went through.
Anyways, will look this up and thanks again for taking the effort to post it again.

I have been using HP All-in-one Print/Scan/Copy for more than 5 yrs now and happy with it for any general document printing, Photos etc.

Please check the recent models.

Catridge replacement depends upon the usage. I replace the catridge once in 6 months when the print is not good.

I have a HP Printer lying for sometime however it has only print option doesn't have scanning option. If interested let me know.

I strongly recommend a model that allows you to easily refill the cartridge from a nearby re filler at a nominal cost-forget all the bunk the mfrs say about spoiling the machine. Some models have cartridges that cant be refilled and others have very small black ink cartridges-avoid all such models like the plague!
