thought for a good 2.1 setup, we may need subwoofer connectivity - why the most acclaimed amp doesn't have it

appreciate if anyone could share the reasoning.

my view is for music a system is incomplete without subwoofer - isn't that so ?

Most of the stereo amps do not have it.
Most of the stereophiles do not need it.

System is incomplete without sub- may be, but it depends on the capabilities of the system in question.
There are very few music instruments that go deeper than 70hz and even bookshelves can manage to go that low.
Moreover getting a good sub that does music duty well, seamlessly integrating it with the main speakers and counteracting the undesirable room issues is a pain which is probably not worth to take for many.

ps: You may consider Yamaha AS-500 in that budget, it has a subwoofer out.
BTW, even if your amp doesn't have subwoofer out, it is still possible to use your sub, provided it has high level inputs; but it has its own share of problems.

Boss you are wrong!
Stereophiles wont like subwoofers.

The bass coming from the BS or FS is enough for music listening.
Subwoofer may well suit for movies rather than music.

I too think so and you can link a sub to your Mara via high level B spk-out:
sub works fine and you can easily stop it pressing spk-B button:
after few minuts sub go in stanby, and his green led become red...
the best of a lot of cd and vinyl are bass frequencies under 50 Hz:
with a good sub you'll discovery your music another time,
as at 100 Hz you have often only boom boom
...and yes.. I'm not only a Stereophile,
but a many type of music lover too :D

Stereo is 2 channel, some manufacturers make the .1 aval even in stereo amplifieres with no bass management.... Meaning you can limit your subwoofer crossover setting...

2.0 Vs 2.1 is a personal choice.... I like my stereo 2.0... If you fell subwoofer completes the system, you can very well add them...

In addition to other recommendations, consider the Onkyo TX 8020 & TX 8050 stereo receivers which have subwoofer output..

Well there are electronic music synthesizing equipments used in genres such as Trance, Dubstep, Reggae........ That type of music has significant content around 20-60hz.

Most subwoofers have speaker inputs with crossover settings. Your amp's speaker out goes into speaker in of sub and then you set the cross over in the sub and wire the speaker out of sub to your speakers. The sub then plays what's below crossover freq and anything above, it sends to the speakers.
This is why most subwoofers have crossover settings in them.
With modern AVRs however, most times we let the AVR do the crossover.

May be a dumb question..Does the indian film music too contain information down to 20 - 40Hz...

i would like to have a sub because to have a BS or FS to go anywhere near the low end of a sub you need to shell out a heavy amount. Can any HFM name some speakers on a budget with good low end? I would rather buy a decent economy BS or FS and add a sub woofer. Thus each speaker does what it is good for.
Secondly when listening at low or moderate volumes the 2.0 does not bring out the low bass when you listen to various genres of music. I like deep bass which you feel without raising the volume too much.

I f any HFM can give me suggestion for budget BS/FS speaker with matching amp which can deliver low bass(perhaps not matching sub) i would be happy to try it.

thank you all for the replies, if i want to connect sub to PM 6005, how do I do it - I couldn't understand what's mentioned in this.

Also, will Marantz go with Klipsch speakers ?

please suggest good speakers

Adding on to kanwar the music is compressed ie lower volumes boosted up as well so that the cheap headphones and speakers can reproduce the sounds..and lower registered may well not be present. True for most of the western POp too :(

Instead of buying a sub you are better of getting a more powerful amp or sensitive speakers. The klipsch are a good choice with marantz.

I have tested Marantz PM6004 and Nad 326 with Klipsch rf 52
and they go very well together, taming brigthness of these spk;
at low volume Marantz, with loudness on, outperforms Nad with ease;
as I still told, you can link a sub to your Mara via high level B spk-out:

after few minuts sub goes in standby, and his green led become red...

for connection, look at here:

some suggestions in page 4/104 ...

the best of a lot of cd and vinyl are bass frequencies between 25 and 50 Hz,
say: syntetiser, film, bass in jazz, tecno, rock, progressive, etc.
not only in indian musics :yahoo:

The only thing I hate about my Onkyo A-9030 is that it has got a sub out.

In other words, with a Marantz PM 6005, you do not need a sub. Just get a good pair of speakers.

Unless of course you want to listen to boom boom boom boom only (like some people do in their cars). If that is the case, do you really need a PM 6005?

Thank you, this makes simpler , page 4 had the details. Using the sub I can now set the cross over freq - i.e. what should sub play.

Excellent input for me.:clapping:

Marantz PM6005/4 has output select- A , B & A+B as well;
if so then the above solution is achieved with A+B output -
selection without any lag in Bass response between main & subwoofer
with PM5005 this is no possible, as it has no B spk out ;
better to buy 6004/5/6 ... :D
