Hey Team,

With some new purchases there's old extra equipment lying around useless and thought I'd setup a secondary viewing area but I dont want to make any investments!
Have a pair of tower speakers with the normal speaker wire at the back whats feasible way to connect these to a new plasma? I know using stereo for TV/movie wont be a good effect but lets not go into HT/Audiophile mode here.

This is just desi jugaad with materials lying around :)

Thanks in advance :)

Check your TV manual and see if it has a speaker out connectors. If it does see what are the specs? If there no speaker out connectors, you are out of luck.

Cheers

Thanks Venkat :) The speakers in question are Sony Towers (Sony SS xb-33t) I cannot seem to locate them anywhere on the internet!

So here's another thought. If I were to build a HT setup stage by stage (not aiming audiophile grade but be able to render 5.1, dolby, dtc etc) how would I go about this?
As of now there's just the plasma and an old dvd player. So I will be in need of a good AVR (heart of the setup?) to begin with.

Since these are full-range (strereo?) speakers I presume the AVR functionality wont be much, but just function as a DVD player.
Lets say I set aside a budget of 20-25k, whats my best bet and first stage of upgrades or procurement?

Or am I better of using the towers elsewhere and jump in the HTIB bandwagon hat onkyo or someone offers?

Appreciate you response!

I would suggest you buy ony of the second hand AVRs available in classified for 10k and connect that to Sony speakers. Later you can add:

1. Better speakers to complete 5 channels
2. Sub for 5.1
3. Media player or Blu Ray player

All I could find was some dirt bike called Xmoto XB-33!!:)

You can start with an entry level AVR from Onkyo (307, 507), Denon (1311, 1611), or Yamaha (467, 567).

How can an AVR function as a DVD Player? An AVR is an amplifier and will accept data from a source such as DVD Player and send output to the speakers. Since your speakers are 'full range' you can certainly use them with the AVR and build a 5.1 around it.

Tell be about it !!

I tried many variables in google, though not exhaustively!!! Sony SS has many many speakers, most were shit...there were few that were decent, i'd rate these as average (nobody else in the household will judge the difference).

Will do a bit of reserach to see the pro's and con's. If you could throw up any links or price points and comparisons, nothing like it.

Seem to have made a typo and not posted very lucidly.

Currently have an aging Philips 2.1 DVD player, this is being replaced by a media player (possibly WD live).

Am I right in assuming that you gents suggest that the Sony towers can continue to perform front stage duty and future investments will be rear+sub only.

This setup will not be used by me, it is being setup for my folks who wont be particular about things but I'd like to ensure a decent experience and long term viability of individual components. The media player is handy as we are 3 siblings with a number of portable HDD filled with various formats. When we visit it would serve us best to stream of the media center.

I understand the need for good wires, cables etc. I just plan on going for VFM route. Will get MX cables HDMI, and 16 gauge speaker wires from the market to replace existing OEM crap.

BTW the display is Panasonic 42x20 :)

Addendum :

Have this Pioneer a401, lying around as well. Since this setup is primarily for HT, didnt think of the stereo amp's use.
But if you have any creative suggestions do let me know.
