Xtreamer Media Player (XMP) Owners Thread

Hi all,

I took the plunge and ordered, got delivery of Xtreamer today. As noted on this forum, the response speed for e-mails and phones was extra ordinary. Got responses in under 5-10 minutes.

Please advise, whether I should update to new firmware 2.0 immediately?
Any other first steps and advise? I have not yet opened the box

I am yet to get the optical cable, so will need to try right now with stereo analog out. I have an old bundled HDMI cable (came along with my Samsung DVDP HD-860. I intend to use optical out for the sound.

One thing is that when playing DVD on this Samsung DVD player, I get a message on TV (Samsung 720p) saying that "HDMI Audio Not Supported". Is this related to the TV or DVDP or the cable? Do you think I need to upgrade the HDMI cable also?

Thanks
Churfsan

I have upgraded the firmware to ver 2 last night and it seems to be working fine i did not face any issues in watching 24 season 7 couple of episodes. It worked great, also over the network through lan i played a file stored on my pc, it worked great without any issues.

So u can go ahead and upgrade the firmware.

The HDMI audio out not supported is a problem with the player and not the cable, i had the same samsung hd 860, i am still using the same HDMI cable with xtreamer and it works great.

dushie - since my setup is not yet back in duty as yet, can you please check if you are able to use the new HD ui even on composite connection? is it working for both hdmi/ composite display at the same time?

regards

No there is nothing wrong with the Xtreamer site as I have downloaded the F/W 2.0 yesterday and even today the site was working fine.Check your browser settings and try refreshing the Chache.

Hi all,

OK!! I opened up the Xtreamer and tested it yesterday night.

As most members here have noted, it played all video files - HD and SD
It played FLAC also, but some FLAC files - it did not play

PQ was very good; SQ was also good but presently I am using only analog stereo out as I am yet to get the optical cable.

Today morning I connected the wireless antenna. I could connect to Internet and saw only the weather. Did not try others

I tried using UPNP and could play one *.MP4 file on the wireless (about 1.2 GB file). It played smoothly without problems. I am using Wireless-G router, and wireless in Xtreamer it is setup as 'infrastructure mode'. It is not playing *.MKV on the same setup (I tried two files, both above 2GB, both MKV files. I will need to try out some other MP4 files also and see. Surprisingly even MP3 is also not playing in this setup. Any idea what could be wrong? I am still to get a clear idea on this.

I have not tried yet the NET option, which I think must be accessing files directly from the PC as a network drive (???). Can you please give some advice on how to play over the network? How is your setup? What is the best of playing files on PC over Xtreamer? What is your opinion?

Also, how do you use the DVD option? Is this locally connected DVD drive on USB or is it the DVD drive on the PC? Have you tried playing DVD from PC over the network on Xtreamer?

Please help
Thanks

Well here is a list of things i have tried that are working -

To play over the network from your dvd drive in your pc -

Enable sharing of the dvd rom drive on your pc, and you will be able to access the same through xtreamer. I was able to play avi and mkv files through dvd drive in my pc.

To play over the network from your pc -
Share the folder you have your files in. Ensure the pc and xtreamer are connected to same router . once ur connected through lan or wireless, u can put your username / password for ur pc and connect to the pc, and it will show the shared folder, then u can save the folder and your shortcuts, next time whenever u need to play, u can just go to my shortcuts and it will open the mapped drive and then the folder and you should be able to play the files off it.

When using wireless ensure that you enable the G mode, keeping the router in mixed mode causes issues, so set it to G mode and use it on the same the performance should improve.

Personally when i had got the unit i played files on wireless for first week, then i bought a switch and have a permanent connection through lan to my router and desktop. My desktop is usually on 24x7 as i am downloading stuff, so i am able to connect and access and play files of it.

Wireless works without any issues, lan makes the task more simple and easy.

Whatever option u can go for is upto you to choose.
Also for wireless i am using my linksys wrt54g router and i am using it in G mode, with dd wrt firmware and it is working great.

update : 720p files now play fine over wifi, without the stutter that I used to experience with 1.x.x firmware ... 1080p are still no go over my G draft router, maybe a N draft would be able to play them better :)

Dushie do you have a SD TV/ display device handy that can be kept close to your hdtv? I know it is asking just too much, but :)

As of now i don't have another SD device to check.

Just upgraded to firmware 2.01, you tube is working great, also the internet radio is working fine.

Xtreamers new Music BOX will be released in firmware version 2.0 that will be available 12.10.2009.

The MusicBox will support internet radio both live streams and shoutcast based streams as well as will be better for full music playback. Local HDD/USB stored music will also be supported. In a later stage of the project they will even add an iTunes-server functionality.

You will be able to play the entire content of music folder by clicking PLAY button while your focus will be on the folder you wish to play its inside content.

The navigation will be as easy as clicking the arrow keys on your Remote.

The left / right panes will be flipped with animation so not always visible.

Updates on this project will follow soon!

Has this been actually released? I am unable to see this anywhere in the menu. I am using 2.0.1 firmware

Hi all,

I have some HD movie files (720p) which is encoded in MPEG-4 AAC audio, and its file properties indicate 5.1 surround.

However, when playing on Xtreamer, when I press the 'Audio" button, it is giving selection of MONO LEFT, MONO RIGHT and STEREO. Also, on my Yamaha amplifier, it is indicating the input signal (on optical port) as PCM, and the mode is shown as DD Pro Logic. This is giving indication that the Xtreamer is down-mixing to 2-channels before outputting on the optical port. Is this right? Is there an option to select the optical output either as Bitstream (or pass-through) so that an external amplifier will decode ) or PCM? Also whether the optical must be 2-channels or 5.1 channels?

If I play DTS encoded movies, will I get the DTS digital out (5.1) directly (to be decoded using an external amplifier) , or will that also be down-mixed to 2-channel for optical audio?

Please clarify and help
Thanks

Sorry to break this thread....

Just for owners of Xtreamer...Good News...You bagged the runner up award..iboum.com : Future Entertainment Technology : Best Current Media Player [November 2009]

Small note to mention from the link:::: When recommending a Media Player today it is important to look at what the prospects are for the future of that device. In Xtreamer's case the future looks action packed.

Enjoy guys...

Yippee, I just ordered WDTV Live yesterday & it came in first place....... :yahoo:

I respect Xtreamer, but somehow don't like its interface. Sigma 8655 used in WDTV Live is powerful than Realtek 1283. It is 500 Mhz processor against 450 Mhz overclocked processor of Xtreamer. It also has 1 Gb memory (RAM+ROM) which is significantly higher than Xtreamer (288 Mb).

Having a powerful hardware is just not enough for Media Players. Firmware support from the manufacturer is equally important. WDTV has a proven track in this case. Also you can get custom firmwares on the net (if you are daring one) Again, Xtreamer, so far has shown a good inclination to support their product. Undoubtedly they want to set themselves as one of the best in budget segment.

I had a big dilemma to choose between these two products. Finally what made me move to WDTV is the price. I got my unit from 20north for 6.8K flat (after applying a coupon). That's much cheaper than Xtreamer price in India. What's missing here is Indian warranty but products like these go through high QC checks so having received defective unit is a rare case. Its a risk worth taking for steal price and a feature packed product.

Hi,

Did you get yourself a WDTV or WDTV-Live, and apart from the price point, WDTV can never beat the Xtreames in term of performance. I personally own a WDTV, and have tested the Xtreamer........... Xtreamer is surely better. First of all WDTV's remote suck's big time (it may be small, but dose not serve the purpose.)......... not as smooth as the Xtreamers. The time taken by WDTV to switch between sequential files is relatively more than that of Xtreamer. GUI is simple but not Intresting. A lot of the file does not support resume play back in WDTV (it tells feature not supported), but the same file works fine with the Xtreamer.

Considering all these factors of the WDTV, it cannot compete with the Xtreamer IMO.

cheers
